Are Melissa McCarthy And Sandra Bullock Friends?

When you're an actor, you have to build some sort of rapport with your co-stars. After all, you need the chemistry on-screen, despite the fact that it might not be easy being with people on set round the clock, sometimes even in grueling conditions. While some movie stars have been involved in infamous feuds — "Star Trek" co-stars George Takei and William Shatner have had beef for decadesTommy Lee Jones famously despised Jim Carrey when they were working together on "Batman Forever — other actors have gotten super close.

Though some celebrities let their pettiness get in the way of professionalism, there are many who treat each other like family and form lifelong friendships. Such is the case for Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, who starred in the 2013 buddy-cop comedy action film, "The Heat." The two played best friends on-screen — which then translated into a real-life bond.

Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock were 'inseparable'

According to Paul Feig, director of "The Heat," Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock's friendship is a rare feat in Hollywood. "They were inseparable," Feig told Parade about the stars' relationship on set — and even afterwards. "Normally after movies, those friendships go away... Theirs blossomed."

This friendship was a surprising development considering how McCarthy and Bullock weren't even friends prior to filming. They had mutual friends, sure, but they had never met each other before. "When people found out we were doing this thing, I got between 12 and 15 calls saying, 'You're about to meet the greatest girl in the world,'" McCarthy told People of finding out she was about to work with the "Miss Congeniality" actor. During their first encounter, she confessed to being a nervous wreck. "I was like, 'Oh my God, I'm going to get a call from Sandra Bullock!' And I was still saying first and last name, I could only say 'Sandra Bullock,'" the star shared.

The two ended up hitting it off, and the rest, as they say, is history. "It was ridiculous. It was so fun every day. We are torturing each other, laughing at the same time," McCarthy told "Good Morning America" of filming "The Heat" with Bullock. "She's so funny and so nice that every day was kind of a real treat." Speaking of treats, per Parade, the stars have even gone trick-or-treating together with their young children, who often play with each other.

Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock have similar personalities and interests

The reason why Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock were able to click right away is that they're basically the same people. Bullock shared that they even had the same hobbies and interests outside of acting. "Our rhythms are different but we worked so well together. We made so many connections; every day was heaven," she told the now-defunct Look Magazine (via RTE). "One minute we were taunting each other and the next we were having great fun. It was fireworks because we are really similar."

And their favorite form of bonding? Home decor and playdates. ”We have similar obsessions, like renovating, so we were comparing designing tips," Bullock added. Even their kids are friends, as they would often set playdates among their youngsters. In the 2013 interview, the "Bird Box" star revealed, "My son is 3 and her youngest is the same age. The kids got along so well from the start."

"The Heat" had become a box office hit, having earned almost $230 million worldwide, per Box Office Mojo. It's thanks to McCarthy and Bullock's genuine bond that it turned out to be a global success. "I think this ended up being a very, very sweet love story," said Bullock of the film. "I mean, every movie is a love story, but this one just happens to be amongst friends.”

Even Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy's kids have become BFFs

While Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy have formed some sort of unbreakable bond, it turns out that their kids also managed to become close. Sandra's son, Louis, and Melissa's two daughters, Vivian and Georgette, have built a friendship that replicates that of their famous mothers. McCarthy even described their children's relationship as something "special."

"Louis was my Georgie's first friend her own age," the actor told E! News in 2013. "And all three of our kids, my two kids and her boy, they still play together. They have a special relationship." But it doesn't end here. Since McCarthy's kids are both girls, Louis would sometimes come to their defense.

"He's very protective of both girls," director Paul Feig said in the interview, to which McCarthy added: "He literally does the straight arm and pushes you away and puts his hands up and backs the girls up." Apparently, he already did this with some paparazzi lurking around the set. "He punched out two paparazzi during filming," Feig added. "You're not going to want to mess with Louis. He's a tough cookie," McCarthy agreed. Now that is certainly a sweet bond!
