What Angie Harmon Has Been Up To Since Law And Order
Angie Harmon wasn't entirely new to the world of television when she snagged the role of Abbie Carmichael on "Law & Order," but it was arguably the first role that saw her break into the mainstream. "Law & Order" ran for 20 seasons before ending in 2010 (via Variety). After a decade-long break, NBC decided to revive it, and this announcement prompted dedicated fans to take a look back at some of the show's biggest personalities. In the grand scheme of the series' lengthy run, Harmon was a small piece of a large puzzle. But she certainly left her mark!
As her IMDb noted, Harmon appeared on "Law & Order" from 1998 to 2001. She also crossed over to the spin-off series "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" to portray Carmichael in six episodes in 1999 and 2000. Although she still had time remaining on her contract when she departed "Law & Order," Variety noted that executive producer Dick Wolf worked with her to stage an early exit. At the time, Harmon was said to have an interest in pursuing feature film roles.

Angie Harmon embraced an unexpected opportunity
After leaving "Law & Order," Angie Harmon was in the Charlie Sheen vehicle "Good Advice" (via Variety). Harmon landed several films after that, including "Agent Cody Banks" with Frankie Muniz and Hilary Duff and "The Deal" with Christian Slater (per IMDb). The Jim Carrey film "Fun with Dick and Jane" followed, and then Harmon shifted back mostly to television. She did "Women's Murder Club," which ended after Season 1 in 2008. Sadly, her acting career then hit a lull.
Harmon was married to NFL star Jason Sehorn, and they had three daughters. She shared with Collider she was "pretty much getting ready to retire" at that point, as she "wasn't really finding the roles that I wanted to play." Harmon told Good Housekeeping that she leaned on her faith for direction. "I said to God, 'If the plan is to raise these girls, I will wholeheartedly do that, because they are so important to me," Harmon recalled. "Once I made that transition in my heart, the ['Rizzoli & Isles'] script was literally on my doorstep the next day."
Indeed, TNT's "Rizzoli & Isles" became a hit, lasting for seven seasons. The challenge in playing Jane Rizzoli was that her family was living in North Carolina, whereas the series filmed in Los Angeles, California. Harmon commuted, telling Good Housekeeping that was "the hardest time in my life, for sure."
Another dream opportunity has since emerged
"Rizzoli & Isles" wrapped in 2016, and Angie Harmon decided to step back from her career for a bit. "My youngest is seven years old. All she knows is 'Rizzoli & Isles,' and she's always been on the other side of the country," Harmon told Parade.
By that time, Harmon was also a single mom, splitting from husband Jason Sehorn in 2014 after 13 years of marriage (per Us Weekly). During that time, Harmon found love again, turning a social media connection with soap star Greg Vaughan into a full-fledged romance. TODAY shares they got engaged on Christmas in 2019, which they celebrated in a now-deleted Instagram post. By this year, however, the couple has seemed to go radio silent on their status.
As Harmon's IMDb page noted, she voiced Lady Trigel in the television series "Voltron: Legendary Defender" after "Rizzoli & Isles," and she did a 2020 episode of "Match Game," detailed Us Weekly. As her girls became teenagers, Harmon embraced new projects. She narrated Lifetime's "Cellmate Secrets," and Deadline reported on a deal she signed with Lifetime for additional projects. As she revealed via her Instagram page, the first project is tentatively titled "Barstow." "This is what dreams coming true looks like!" she wrote alongside a series of snapshots from the initial table read. Harmon has moved far beyond the run she had on "Law & Order," and it seems the opportunity with Lifetime came at just the right time.
