How Did Justin Hartley Meet His New Wife Sofia Pernas?

"This Is Us" star Justin Hartley portrays Kevin Pearson, a handsome actor who has been through more than a few intense relationships. In real life, Hartley has had his fair share of romances, as well. In May, Us Weekly revealed Hartley and Sofia Pernas had quietly gotten married after a fairly low-key romance. The relationship came as something of a surprise, and his fans may not realize how the two initially met.

Pernas is Hartley's third wife. As The Sun detailed, Hartley met his first wife, Lindsay Korman, while starring on the soap opera "Passions." The two crossed paths on the set in 2003 and quickly became romantically involved. They dated for six months before he proposed, and they got married in May 2004. The pair then welcomed their daughter, Isabella, that July (per The Sun). The "Passions" stars split in 2012, but remained on good terms.

The following year, Hartley fell for fellow soap opera actor Chrishell Stause. People noted they had briefly met while working some years prior, but it was a mutual friend introducing them to one another that sparked a romance. "We met up at a concert and talked all night," he recalled of that first date. "I drove her home and called the next day. We haven't been apart since," he added. Stause, who went on to star on "Selling Sunset," and Hartley got married in November 2017. Just two years later, TMZ revealed he had filed for divorce, reportedly blindsiding Stause.

Justin Hartley and Sofia Pernas were friends for years

A few months after filing for divorce from Chrishell Stause, Justin Hartley was rumored to be dating Sofia Pernas (per TMZ). The two were first spotted sharing a kiss as she dropped him off for a medical appointment. Although many people were curious who his apparent new flame was, fans of "The Young and the Restless" quickly realized her identity. Pernas played Marisa Sierra on "Y&R" from 2015 to 2016, detailed Celebrity Insider, while Hartley portrayed Adam Newman on the soap from 2014 to 2016. At the time, Hartley was dating Stause, who also had a short-term gig on "Y&R" in 2016.

Hartley and Pernas remained friends after they both left "Y&R" and throughout his marriage to Stause, according to Us Weekly. They never specifically detailed when or how they started dating, although sources told Us Weekly there was no overlap with Hartley's marriage to Stause and his romance with Pernas. In June 2020, People reported the former "Y&R" stars had been "dating for several weeks," and she had been "spending a lot of time at his house." That report came a week after their kiss had been photographed in Los Angeles. "She was very much a doting girlfriend," a source said of her support at the time. The couple kept their romance low-key in the following months, but went Instagram-official via separate social media posts as 2021 began.

Justin Hartley and Sofia Pernas' romance blossomed during the pandemic

A few months after confirming their romance, Justin Hartley and Sofia Pernas sparked rumors they had gotten married (per Page Six). The pair was photographed on the beach in Malibu in May, and both seemingly had bands on their respective ring fingers. Later in May, Us Weekly confirmed the pair had tied the knot in a "super intimate" ceremony. Pernas and Hartley keep their private life fairly private, although they do occasionally gush over one another on Instagram. In July, he wished his "beautiful Sofia" a happy birthday on his Instagram page. "This amazing woman makes me laugh out loud every single day," Hartley wrote. In September, he posted about "a fun evening out with my bride" on Instagram. Pernas gushed over her guy on Instagram for his birthday, too, noting "That smile!!!" that "Lights up my sky."

The couple told Hollywood Life their relationship developed "backwards" due to the coronavirus pandemic. "Technically our first date was a year after we were together because that was when the world opened up," Pernas explained. In addition, Hartley referred to their time together during quarantine as "hanging out with my best friend." Pernas insisted it was "too early to tell" if they would have children together, noting, "We just got married. We're enjoying being together and being able to go on vacation." Will this third marriage be the charm for Hartley? He certainly seems head-over-heels for Pernas, as she is for him.
