Here's What Angelina Jolie Looks Like Without Makeup

Angelina Jolie is considered one of the most beautiful people in Hollywood — if not the world. Ever since she entered show business, she has been recognized for both her exquisite looks (those lips, hello?) and unparalleled appeal. Vanity Fair crowned her as the most beautiful woman in the world in 2009, and in 2004, Esquire dubbed her as the sexiest woman alive.

AfterEllen.com founder Sarah Warn perhaps described Jolie's appeal best. In an archived 2002 piece titled "The Angelina Jolie Phenomenon," the writer wrote that people of varying genders and identities are attracted to the actor. "Most people would agree that Angelina Jolie is attractive," she wrote. "But there are many beautiful women in Hollywood, and few generate the same kind of overwhelming interest across genders and sexual orientations that she does; clearly something else is going on here."

Jolie even looks beautiful even amid makeup faux pas. In 2014, she was famously photographed on the red carpet with powder on her face that didn't blend well, but the "Eternals" actor still looked as stunning as ever. In fact, even without makeup on, Jolie can manage to defend her title as the most beautiful woman in the world.

Angelina Jolie is not a fan of putting on too much makeup

Angelina Jolie is a minimalist when it comes to beauty. When she's not in front of the camera, she refuses to massively do her face up — at least according to dermatologist Rhona Rand, who has been treating Jolie for over three decades now (via Refinery29). "The thing about [Jolie] is she never wears makeup unless she's working — it's probably another reason her skin looks good. She's also good about removing makeup," Rand said. "I know her makeup artist is super careful about what she puts on her skin and takes good care of it when she's working."

Rand also shared how Jolie is blessed with good genes. She already has beautiful skin to begin with, so she doesn't usually undergo excessive treatments. "Her skin is naturally beautiful — again it's not like she has to run to the doctor all that often," Rand added. "If she's gone for a month or two, or is using a lot of makeup for filming, she doesn't lose ground."

Jolie is so comfortable in her own skin that in 2011, she appeared in a Louis Vuitton campaign sans cosmetics. In the print ad, she was makeup-free and donning casual clothes. But as usual, she looked radiant. "People are not used to seeing Angelina in this situation," said Pietro Beccari, the brand's executive vice president at the time, told WWD. "I like the fact that it's a real moment."

Angelina Jolie takes very good care of her skin

Angelina Jolie arguably still looks as beautiful as when she first joined Hollywood. The secret? She started taking care of her skin when she was young. Dr. Rhona Rand told Refinery29 that Jolie knew she was going to pursue acting from the get-go, so she made an effort to maintain her beautiful complexion.

"When [Jolie] knew she was going to have an acting career, she wanted to take care of her skin in the most sensible way. She's lucky she has her mom's beautiful, olive skin," Rand said. "She's always been such a natural beauty, so she didn't ever have to do much. It was really just sunscreen, proper cleansing with a mild, gentle cleanser, antioxidants, sometimes glycolic [acids], and natural products. Some alpha hydroxy [acids] are good too, and they're very natural. She doesn't need major scrubs or products with lots of chemicals."

As for her ultimate beauty secret? Jolie is a pro at protecting her skin against the sun. "She's been so good about using sunscreen from such an early age to protect her skin. She knew that the sun is not good for skin in general," Rand added. "She's also good about wearing hats, which is so important. She hydrates a lot and does a lot of good moisturizing, but again, it's the sun protection that's going to stop you from aging more than anything."

Angelina Jolie believes that inner beauty is what truly matters

While Angelina Jolie is conventionally beautiful by all standards, she has underscored how inner beauty matters more than what's on the outside. She also said that wisdom is far more important, and it's a belief she has passed on to her daughters.

"I often tell my daughters that the most important thing they can do is to develop their minds," Jolie wrote in a personal essay published on Elle. "You can always put on a pretty dress, but it doesn't matter what you wear on the outside if your mind isn't strong. There is nothing more attractive—you might even say enchanting—than a woman with an independent will and her own opinions."

Jolie also shared that being brainy is more impressive than being pretty, and that beauty means nothing if you don't have a good heart. "Intellect is the most beautiful. When you see somebody who has a mind on fire, that's sexy," she shared with InStyle in 2018. "A person who is empathetic and thoughtful and passionate — there's nothing more attractive than that. There's nothing you could wear or put on your face to cover up if your mind is blank and your heart is dark."
