This Is The Actor In Frito-Lay's Super Bowl 2022 Commercial
Every year, companies shell out millions of dollars for screen time during the phenomenon known as the Super Bowl. According to CNBC, the event drew in over 96 million viewers in 2021 alone! And Super Bowl LVI is set to bring in even more viewers who are looking to see if the underdogs, the Cincinnati Bengals, can defeat the Los Angeles Rams, who'll be returning to the Bowl for the second time in the past four years (and on their home turf, no less). The Bengals have only been to the Super Bowl twice before — the last time being 1989, according to CNN — and have never won the elusive Vince Lombardi trophy. So this football finale is sure to be a doozy!
The Frito-Lay company, which distributes products like Doritos, Cheetos, and Fritos, is known for going all-out with its Super Bowl advertisements. Last year, Frito-Lay bagged comedians Kate McKinnon and Dan Levy, and pulled out the big bucks to get actor Matthew McConaughey!
This year, Frito-Lay is releasing teaser trailers for their ads prior to the Super Bowl, which will air on NBC on February 13. And in case you did not recognize his iconic eyebrow slit, the actor in the "Paw Prints" commercial is actually this famous hitmaker!
Charlie Puth: singer, songwriter, producer... and now actor?
Singer-songwriter Charlie Puth is putting yet another feather in his cap. Although he has only appeared in various music videos so far, according to his IMDb, the "See You Again" singer is now dipping his toes into the acting pool by partnering with Frito-Lay. "They had the concept and they said Super Bowl commercial—so I was automatically like, 'Yes,'" Puth revealed about the deal to Forbes.
The commercial begins with Puth, who is known for having perfect pitch, showing off his beatboxing skills as he walks to his trailer on-set. "The idea is after [the animals] had the Flamin' Hot snacks, they would become musically invincible, which is what happens to me I real life so it was super easy," he joked.
It appears that the Frito-Lay advertisements will be a star-studded event on Super Bowl weekend; rapper Megan Thee Stallion appeared in a similar teaser commercial to Puth's. But audiences will have to wait until the Super Bowl itself to see exactly what the duo is going to get into with that pesky Cheeto cheetah and his orange dust-covered paws.
What's next in Charlie Puth's career?
With his undeniable musical talent and powerful singing voice, Charlie Puth sure is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. He first rose to prominence by using the power of YouTube to gain popularity, posting his covers and original songs on the platform. Puth's big breakthrough came when "See You Again," the song he and Wiz Khalifa released for the "Furious 7" movie, went absolutely viral for Puth's melodic chorus. The "See You Again" music video has garnered over 5.4 billion views on YouTube!
The singer-songwriter has won numerous Teen Choice Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and many others. He was even nominated for three Grammys for "See You Again." Could acting be the next avenue Puth will go down? Well, Puth actually just released the single "Light Switch" on January 20, and the rest of his album, "Charlie," will be dropping sometime in 2022. With his music career on full throttle, the question remains: will this Super Bowl commercial launch Puth's acting career, or will music take up all of his time?
