How Did Heather Rae Young And Tarek El Moussa Meet?

Real-estate investor Tarek El Moussa and real-estate agent Heather Rae Young were no strangers to romance when they met each other. Young dated professional hockey player Nick Ebert for three years before calling it quits. Ebert revealed on "Inside Vue" that the two were at "different times" in their lives. He also mentioned that the age difference, Ebert being six years younger than Young, possibly had something to do with what they truly wanted for the future.

"Selling Sunset" fans got a snippet of what their relationship was like. The second episode of the first season showed a FaceTime call between the two, as Ebert announced that he was picked up by a team in Switzerland. Based on the reaction from Young, it was clear that she was hoping a team in the United States would sign him.

El Moussa was married to his "Flip or Flop" partner Christina Haack, but announced their separation in 2016 and finalized their divorce a couple years later. There were numerous reasons the pair split, and El Moussa posted on Instagram that he didn't think he'd get married or even "find love" again. That was until he met Young.

Tarek El Moussa slid into the DMs

According to People, it was revealed that Tarek El Moussa already slid into Heather Rae Young's direct messages right before the filming of "Selling Sunset." She was still with ex-boyfriend Nick Ebert at the time. Young replied that she had a boyfriend and the messages were forgotten about. But on the Fourth of July 2019, El Moussa had his yacht parked next to a boat the then-single Young was on, and he took it to himself to say "hello," per House Beautiful.

Soon enough, the two talked, hung out, had drinks, and moved in with each other. "We moved in together really quick after only a few weeks, and we know each other so well," Young told Page Six. "He's my best friend. He's an open book. He is who he is and so am I, so everything's been amazing."

In Season 5, episode 3 of "Selling Sunset," a text conversation between El Moussa's sister and her best friend was revealed at Young's wedding shower. The conversation was from the day the two real estate workers met, and the best friend was on the boat. The conversation stated that El Moussa "met someone" and he told the best friend that Young was "his dream girl."

Going from 'dream girl' to the girl

After some lighthearted jokes from Heather Rae Young about an engagement in episode 5 of Season 3 of "Selling Sunset," while she was dress shopping with the show's drama queen Christine Quinn, Tarek El Moussa popped the question one year after they started dating. The two had an intimate engagement party (via People), but didn't hesitate to share the special event on social media.

"The most special night with the most special man," Young, who has expressed numerous times on "Selling Sunset" that she loves love, shared on her Instagram page. "I can't stop smiling." The pair used the hashtag #FlippingHerLastName, indicating that Young would be changing her last name to El Moussa.

While some may have been skeptical about El Moussa and Young staying together, as their romance timeline was fast-paced, the two reality television stars tied the knot in October of 2021. It was recently announced that HGTV will be producing an eight-episode docuseries called "The Flipping El Moussas," per Deadline. The docuseries will take viewers on the personal journey of the couple moving and potentially having children.
