The Untold Truth Of Georgina Rodriguez

Georgina Rodríguez, a former model and dancer, is best known for being the long-term partner of living football legend Cristiano Ronaldo. This is the longest, and perhaps the most serious, relationship for the Manchester United forward, who previously dated Russian supermodel Irina Shayk for five years. Before bumping into Ronaldo by chance, Rodríguez was a simple girl who could only dream of making it big someday. Independent from a young age, she had a regular life with a regular job that promised sustenance. Today, Rodríguez is billed as one of the most popular WAGs who lives an extravagant life that is a far cry from the one she had known in her younger days.

Pair Rodríguez's lavish lifestyle and striking looks with her dreamy romance with one of the greatest football stars of all time, and you have a master formula for social media success. Since meeting Ronaldo, she has amassed millions of followers on Instagram where she regularly shares photos with her children. (And naturally, her much-coveted page brings in collaboration opportunities from reputable brands.) Rodríguez has also graced many magazine covers including InStyle, Cosmopolitan, and Women's Health. Even with all the media attention (and a reality show to her name), she is a private person who keeps most details of her personal life under wraps.

Rodríguez's rags to WAG story is fit to be a script for a romance movie, but that's not all that defines her. Here are a few things that you might not know about her.

Georgina Rodríguez grew up in a tiny Spanish town

Georgina Rodríguez was born to her Argentinian father, Jorge Eduardo Rodríguez Gorjón, and Spanish mother, Ana Maria Hernandez in Buenos Aires. As she told XLSemanal, at the time of her arrival, they did not live in Argentina, but happened to be visiting her father's side of the family. Afterward, they made their way back to Spain, eventually settling in a small town called Jaca.

Rodríguez did not come from money, but she enjoyed her quiet life. As she shared in Netflix's "I Am Georgina," she has many fond memories of her childhood, a simple yet formative time. Rodríguez has everything she ever wanted and more now, but she hasn't forgotten where she came from. Like her partner, Cristiano Ronaldo, her love for family runs deep, and she makes it known. In January 2022, she paid tribute to her mother and sister in a lengthy Instagram caption, writing, "Thank you to my mom and my sister [Ivana] for accompanying me on the road of life, because we have always been a small family of 3, but this has made us unconditional and inseparable. Thank you mother for the values you instilled in us, which today I can't live without."

Georgina Rodríguez's father had a troubled past

For someone who is the partner of one of the greatest and the most talked-about people in the world, it's impressive how Georgina Rodríguez still maintains an air of mystery about her. She sparsely talks about her relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo and makes it a point to avoid bringing up her father, Jorge Eduardo Rodríguez Gorjón, during interviews. Her need for privacy when it comes to her father is understandable, though. As per the Daily Mail, Gorjón was a convicted drug dealer who was jailed in 2003 over drug trafficking offenses. In 2003, he attempted to smuggle over $100,000 worth of cocaine from Spain to France and was ultimately caught. Several arrest warrants had already been issued for him when he was taken into custody. Gorjón was banned from returning to Spain after his 10-year sentence. He died in 2019 following a stroke.

After Gorjón was jailed, Rodríguez's uncle, Jesus Hernandez, reportedly stepped up to help the family out. After Rodríguez started dating Ronaldo, she reportedly distanced herself from Hernandez and some other family members. Hernandez told The Sun that Rodríguez was ungrateful towards him, claiming, "She may feel ashamed of us and consider she's better than us because we don't live with her luxury. I've never asked her for anything. She has only rung once or twice since I found out she was dating Ronaldo." He also claimed she didn't tell him about her father's death.

She worked odd jobs in the past

Nowadays, Georgina Rodríguez is a household name with access to just about anything she could ever want, but she has not always been so financially comfortable. As per The Sun, her first gigs included waitressing at an eatery about an hour away from her hometown, working in a Massimo Dutti store, and becoming an au pair for a family in England. According to the Daily Mail, the latter job brought in just over $100 a week. She also made time to take English lessons, telling XLSemanal, "I wanted to work in luxury and I understood that for that I had to speak English." And work in luxury is what she did. Rodríguez nabbed a position at a Gucci store in 2016, a job which would change her life forever (more on that later).

One thing led to another, and by 2017, she was a cover girl. As per Marca, she signed with Uno Models and landed her first magazine cover. From working at luxury stores and brands to having a luxurious closet, Rodríguez's story sounds like something out of a fairytale. As she said in her Netflix series "I Am Georgina," "I know what it is to have nothing, and I know what it is to have everything."

She quit ballet because her family couldn't afford it

As a child, Georgina Rodríguez dreamt of growing up and having a career in the dance world. As she shared in Netflix's "I Am Georgina," her mom put her in ballet class with the hope that it would help her come out of her shell. This instinct proved to be a good one, as Rodríguez fell in love with dance. However, by the time she was a teenager, her family could no longer afford to send her to classes or keep up with the additional costs that come with the sport, such as pointe shoes. And just like that, Rodríguez's hopes of becoming a ballet teacher someday were squashed.

Though Rodríguez's journey with ballet was cut short, she finds joy in other forms of dancing now. In 2020, she put on her dancing heels at the Sanremo Italian Song Festival. Rodríguez, who also hosted the show, set the stage on fire with her tango. As The Sun noted, Rodríguez's beau, Cristiano Ronaldo, was there to cheer her on.

Life changed after she met Cristiano Ronaldo

Once upon a time, Georgina Rodríguez lived in a storage room in Madrid. In "I Am Georgina" (via The Sun), Rodríguez shared that she spent nearly $300 a month to rent what was basically a closet while she was selling high-end bags at Gucci. But of course, that would all change when a certain superstar footballer stopped by her store.

As Rodríguez recalled in "I Am Georgina" (via Evening Standard), as she helped him pick out products, the two clicked. Within a matter of time, she went from being his personal shopper to his girlfriend. When they initially started dating, Cristiano Ronaldo would pick her up from work in his luxurious cars. "He would come, I remember once, once in a Bugatti. My coworkers went crazy. They get there on the bus, and I would leave in a Bugatti. I mean people couldn't believe it," she said in the series (via People).

While riding around in high-end vehicles sure sounds fun, the media blitz that comes with dating one of the most famous men on the planet was not always a breeze. Thanks to all of the attention suddenly thrust upon her, Rodríguez no longer could work at Gucci, nor could she take up jobs at other luxury retailers. So, she kept herself busy with modeling gigs as Ronaldo romanced her. (Remember when he famously tried to go incognito for a fun trip to Disneyland with her? Fun times.)

Cristiano Ronaldo wants to marry her someday

At the start of their courtship, Cristiano Ronaldo didn't see things getting super serious with Georgina Rodríguez. However, his outlook soon changed. As People noted in their recap of "I Am Georgina," the soccer icon admitted, "I didn't expect it honestly. But after a while I felt that she was the woman of my life." But before Ronaldo knew what hit him, Rodríguez had become a big part of his life. Shortly after their relationship began, the ace footballer introduced Rodríguez to his mother, Maria Dolores Aveiro. In November 2016, Aveiro posted a photo of herself in the midst of family and friends on Instagram, and eagle-eyed fans were quick to spot Rodríguez in the mix.

Back in 2018, Aveiro hinted at what the future might look like for her son Ronaldo and Rodríguez. Speaking to Cristina magazine (via the Daily Mail), she shared that she is fond of her son's partner, adding, "She is the mother of my grand-daughter. She is a future daughter-in-law. She's not my daughter-in-law yet [but] she's a future daughter-in-law." Ronaldo shares his mother's sentiments — he is pretty sure Rodríguez will be his wife someday.

Only time can tell when Ronaldo and Rodríguez will get married, but there have been rumors of a secret engagement. For example, in 2021, Rodríguez was spotted wearing an eye-catching sparkler on that finger. Although the pair hasn't confirmed anything, Rodríguez has been spotted wearing the ring on several occasions.

Georgina Rodríguez is a proud mom

When Georgina Rodríguez came into Cristiano Ronaldo's life, he was already a father to a son, and had two twins on the way. Ronaldo became a father for the first time when he welcomed Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. in June 2010. The identity of his biological mother is still a mystery, and in a 2015 interview with Jonathan Ross, Ronaldo opened up about his decision to keep this information private. "When Cristiano grows up, I'm always, always going to say the truth to him, because he deserves it," he said. "But I'm not going to say it because people want me to say it."

Ronaldo welcomed twins, Eva and Mateo, via surrogate in 2017. Five months later, Rodríguez had her first child with Ronaldo, a baby girl named Alana Martina. In October 2021, the couple announced they were expecting another set of twins.

Rodríguez went from a single woman who worked in a Gucci store to make ends meet to not only being in a relationship with a very famous person, but a parent. But it sure looks like she took to motherhood like a duck to water. As she told Hola! (via The Sun), "I no longer imagine my life without my children. It has definitely brought us closer. We're happier together than ever. The children are our joy."

Georgina Rodríguez and Cristiano Ronaldo's son died

On April 18, 2022, Georgina Rodríguez and Cristiano Ronaldo experienced a tragedy when one of their twins died shortly after birth. As they grappled with the unsurmountable heartbreak, their newborn daughter, Bella Esmeralda, gave them hope and strength. The pair took to Instagram to share their grief, writing, "We are devastated by this loss and beg for privacy at this difficult time. Baby you are our angel. We will always love you." Per CNN, rival football clubs expressed their condolences on social media, and Ronaldo's former club Real Madrid showed their support with a statement that read in part, "Real Madrid joins the pain of the whole family and wants to show them all our love and affection."

While on vacation in Sardinia in August 2022, Rodríguez got a tattoo of an angel holding a moon. As Remezcla noted, she did not explicitly state what inspired the ink, it is believed to be in honor of her late son. She also got a tattoo to commemorate her love for Ronaldo.

Georgina Rodríguez has her own Netflix show

The world knows Georgina Rodríguez as one of the most popular WAGs of the current era. To show her fans how she lives life with her ultra-famous partner Cristiano Ronaldo and their children, she teamed up with Netflix for a show called "I am Georgina." The fly-on-the-wall series gives fans a glimpse into her day-to-day with guest appearances by Ronaldo and her friends as she enjoys expensive shopping trips, lavish vacations, and fun times with friends and family. She and Ronaldo also get candid about their relationship.

As for the reviews, they came in all sorts of hues. Some Rotten Tomatoes users confessed they took pleasure in watching her dreamy life unfold on camera, while others said the show fell flat and they couldn't see Rodríguez's authentic self that was lost behind the glitz and glamor that came with being Ronaldo's partner. "But what it lacks in substance it makes up for in jaw-dropping style as, luxuriating in yachts, planes, automobiles, and the obligatory high-fashion retail outlets, she cements her reputation as no mere uber-WAG, but the biggest WAG in the world, wrote the Daily Mail.

Georgina Rodríguez has a stunning net worth

Way back when Georgina Rodríguez was working in high-end stores and renting out a storage closet, she wasn't exactly rolling in the dough. But now she is worth millions. Thanks to modeling gigs, brand deals, and her Netflix show, she's added multiple zeros to her net worth, which Celebrity Net Worth estimates at $10 million.

Needless to say, her various deals have been lucrative. In 2020, The Sun reported that the stunner signed a five-figure deal with PrettyLittleThing to promote their brand on Instagram. As someone who likes to stay fit and healthy, Rodríguez has also partnered with Alo Yoga to promote their line of yoga wear and accessories. In July 2022, she fronted the fall ad campaign of Genny, an Italian ready-to-wear fashion brand. That's not all. Rodríguez partnered with lingerie and swimwear brand, Yamamay, in 2019 and has worked with reputable jewelry brands like Chopard.

Rodríguez also gets a monthly allowance from her partner, Cristiano Ronaldo. As per a 2020 report from The Sun, she apparently gets a little over $90,000 a month for her expenses.

She's a big Cristiano Ronaldo fan

Georgina Rodríguez is not only a doting mother but also her partner's biggest fan. As The Sun noted, Rodríguez tries to make it to as many of her beau's matches as possible,  always in his corner for the victories and the losses alike. She often shares photos of herself supporting Ronaldo on Instagram, and in 2017, she was photographed wearing the Champions League medal after Real Madrid won the title.

Ronaldo is not the only soccer star in the family: Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. is already making waves in the junior leagues. And, of course, Rodríguez is proud of everything he's achieved so far. In 2021, she shared a snap taken at one of his soccer matches and wrote, "Supporting my big boy." The following year, the family's eldest son officially joined Manchester United. Though his dad could not be there for his big signing moment, Rodríguez was right by his side. After Cristiano Jr. signed, she wrote on Instagram, "Chasing our dreams together. Mom loves you."

By Rodríguez's account, it sounds like she and Ronaldo make a good team. As she told Hello! in 2017, "We complement each other very well. We have a beautiful relationship and when I have him beside me, I have everything."
