All The Movies Shailene Woodley And Ansel Elgort Have Starred In Together
It may not seem like it sometimes, but Hollywood is a relatively small place — so you tend to see the same actors work together on various projects. But some duos deliberately pick the same shows or movies just to get the opportunity to work alongside each other.
Case in point: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. The two comedians seem to be attached at the hip, considering the string of projects they've worked on together. It also helps that they're real-life BFFs. "It's like a good marriage," Poehler told Glamour of their relationship. "My mom always says it's very important to have people in your life who knew you when ... Tina and I, we don't have any sisters. So we've rented them." Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler are another dynamic duo. "I was convinced at the time that we were supposed to pair up. I knew it. I knew it in my bones," Barrymore wrote in her memoir "Wildflower" (via The Washington Post). "I think we also like the comfort of thinking we will be together when we are really old."
Professional soulmates are less common in the new generation of actors, which is why duos like Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort are a delight to witness. Throughout their career, they've had the pleasure of appearing in the same projects multiple times.

Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort were up-and-coming actors when they started working together. Their first project was "Divergent," in which they played brother and sister — and right after that, they dove into playing lovers in the hit coming-of-age romance film, "The Fault in Our Stars." Woodley didn't seem to mind it since she already loved Elgort from the get-go.
"I'd never heard anything about [Ansel] before meeting him on 'Divergent,'" Woodley told MTV in 2014. "[He] was so quiet and so open and so pure. He was more observant. There was something very special about him, something that moved me." Per Time, the casting for "The Fault in Our Stars" was announced mid-way through filming "Divergent," but the two never saw it as a problem. "Ansel and I have an affinity for each other just as far as recognizing and admiring the spirits in one another," Woodley told the outlet. "It was nice to do a movie like 'Fault,' which does have so many vulnerable scenes with somebody I was already comfortable with." Meanwhile, Elgort said that he viewed Woodley's characters as two separate entities, which helped him with the transition. "You almost start to think that Shailene is two different people in the projects," he said. "You meld with your character a little bit, naturally."
With "Divergent" being part of a series, they got the chance to work on two more installments, rounding their joint projects to four.

Since Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort had undeniable chemistry on-screen, many can't help but wonder if they would ever date each other in real life. However, the two are adamant that they are good friends, and that's all they would ever be.
"Me and Shailene have a really platonic relationship," Elgort told Seventeen in 2015. "I've never once wanted her sexually, which is nice." He repeated the same sentiment in 2019 in an interview with W Magazine. "I love Shailene Woodley, and we never had anything sexual, and that was great," he said. "There will probably be some sort of chemical thing at some point that you can't help, but you just have to be disciplined."
It doesn't seem that Woodley is in love with Elgort either, but she admitted that she adores working with him. "There's something really beautiful about working with someone and working with them again and again and again. Because the more you get to know somebody on a personal level, the more free you feel artistically," she told The Hollywood Reporter.
In September 2022, there were reports that Woodley and Elgort's relationship had turned romantic — but as of writing, they have not addressed the speculation. Here's to hoping that we'll see them together again on the big screen soon!
