By December 2016, however, People learned that Benoist had filed for divorce. The two actors portrayed "Supergirl" characters who were also romantically linked, Kara Danvers and Mon-El. After meeting on the set of "Supergirl" and starting a romance, in early 2019, they made the major announcement that they'd become engaged in an Instagram post. Benoist shared a photo of herself wearing a diamond engagement ring next to Wood, writing, "yes yes yes it will always be yes." In September of that year, E! News reported that the pair had privately tied the knot in Ojai, California. A source explained to the news outlet, "It looked like an elegant outdoor dinner party. Benoist visited "The Late Late Show with James Corden" in November 2019 and talked about her wedding day. "We had a really, really nice day," Benoist said. "It was very special." Following their nuptials, Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood started a family. In early 2020 the two shared on social media that Benoist was pregnant with their first child. "@christophrwood has always been an old dad by nature but now he's going to be a real one!" Benoist wrote on Instagram alongside cute photos of her and Wood. Benoist then announced their son's birth in September 2020 by sharing a sweet image of his hand holding her finger on Instagram. She also revealed the baby's name: Huxley. "Huxley Robert Wood got here a few weeks ago and this little boy is everything," she wrote.
Just a month after this announcement, Benoist opened up about becoming a parent on Instagram Live, in which she spoke with Congresswoman Karen Bass, Us Weekly reported. "Oh, man, he's the best," Benoist said of her son. "I am loving being a parent. I love being a mom. He's such a sweetheart." Wood also gushed about baby Huxley on Instagram after he was born, calling him "amazing." Fans also got to see the couple collaborate once more professionally when Wood returned for the "Supergirl" finale, which Benoist mentioned to Entertainment Weekly in October 2021.
