John Cena Has No Regrets Following Candid Today Show Interview
John Cena has no regrets.
On Tuesday, May 15, 2018, the WWE star returned to the Today show to reflect on his candid interview the previous day, during which he professed his love for ex-fiancée Nikki Bella and said he had changed his mind about not wanting to start a family.
"I was given a chance to be honest and I think that's important," Cena began, adding, "I did what I did yesterday for one person, and one person only. And that's because I love her ... I don't care about anybody's comments, I care about one person."
He continued, "Here are my cards, they're on the table," before explaining that he felt "liberated" after confessing his feelings following the former couple's recent split. "I have never regretted one single moment that I have been with Nicole ... I just wanted her to hear me," the pro wrestler went on. "I believe she did."
As Nicki Swift previously reported, the Blockers star made headlines earlier this week while speaking with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb about his breakup. "It's been very difficult. I had my heart broken out of nowhere," he said, adding, "I still love Nicole. I would still love to marry Nicole. I still would love to have a family with Nicole."
Bella later told Extra that she was "speechless" after hearing about the interview. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, she called her ex an "amazing man" and the "love of [her] life." The Total Bellas star went on, "I truly hope one day that we can work it out and get back together. I think there is hope."
Cena, 41, and Bella, 34, who got engaged in April 2017, called it quits last month after six years together. "While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another," they said in a joint statement at the time. "We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives."
