What Robin Roberts' Partner Amber Laign Really Does For A Living
Robin Roberts and Amber Laign have been together for what seems like forever. The couple first began dating in 2005, and they met by chance. Roberts told Ellen DeGeneres that someone set herself and Laign up on a blind date — and they hit it off. While Laign tends to shy away from the spotlight, Roberts says her partner still supported her career as a well-known television anchor.
In 2020, the couple celebrated a milestone anniversary — 15 years of dating. Roberts took to her Instagram feed to share a collage featuring photos of the two as she reposted Laign's beautiful tribute. "15 years ago I met you for drinks on a blind date that both you and I tried to cancel...twice. Your grace caught my eye right away, and the ease of the evening continued to flow through dinner," Laign wrote before touching on their second date. "Having you by my side is a gift as we continue to navigate this thing called life," she added before gushing over how much Roberts means to her.
Since their initial date in 2005, a lot has changed, and Laign has been by Roberts' side for plenty of milestones in her career. After reporting for ESPN, Roberts joined "Good Morning America" as a newsreader in 2002, and in 2005, she was promoted to co-anchor with Diane Sawyer and Charles Gibson. In 2022, she won the Sol Taishoff Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism. So what does Laign do?
Amber Laign has had several jobs over the years and co-founded a business
There's more to Amber Laign than just dating one of the most famous news anchors on morning television. Robin Roberts' partner may not have as much of a highly-touted career as her counterpart, but she still has a pretty cool gig if you ask us. According to her LinkedIn profile, Laign made a living as a massage therapist for about ten years; during her tenure, she did everything from deep tissue massages to Swedish massages. It looks like she stopped her career as a masseuse in 2020. Before she got into the massage business, Laign worked as a sales rep for Berger and Stevens for nine years. The establishment has since closed its doors, but Manta noted that it sold women's clothing.
But wait, there's more, and being a massage therapist and a sales rep are not Laign's only professions. According to her profile, Laign co-founded Plant Juice Oils with Marci Freede in 2017. Their website states that the two ladies bonded over their love of oils after meeting at a dog park in the big apple. The website also gives a shoutout to Roberts, who helped inspire Laign to open the wellness brand because of her health journey, presumably as she battled cancer. Most products on the website contain CBD and range from oils to bath bombs and even gel caps. The products aim to aid in different categories, including stress, sleep, pain, and brain fog.
Robin Roberts and Amber Laign are uber supportive of one another
Amber Laign started her wellness business thanks to Robin Robert's public health woes, and she's been incredibly supportive of Roberts as she publicly battled cancer. "I am grateful for my entire family, my long-time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together," Roberts wrote of her girlfriend in 2013 to celebrate the one-year anniversary of her life-saving bone marrow transplant.
Roberts later returned the favor to her longtime partner as Laign faced her own battle with breast cancer. "My sweet Amber wanted me to tell you something she's been facing. At the end of last year, Amber was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had surgery last month, and this morning will begin chemotherapy," Roberts told fans in a video posted to her Twitter feed in 2022. She added that "the prognosis is good" before giving fans another update in April. Roberts revealed to ET that Laign had to stop chemo due to complications, but that July, Laign completed her radiation, which Roberts called, "a very important phase of her treatment."
In January, Roberts revealed her plans to marry Laign while sharing her intentions for 2023. At first, Roberts said she was "hesitating because I haven't said it out loud yet" before stating she's fully committed to marrying her longtime love. "It was something we had talked about, but we had put it off," she explained since Laign became ill. What a sweet pair.
