Who Is DeMarco Morgan, The New GMA Anchor Replacing T.J. Holmes?

"Good Morning America" is making it clear that they are moving on to bigger and better things. After five long months, "GMA 3" officially announced the replacements for former hosts, T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach, per CNN.

As many may remember, Holmes and Robach were involved in quite a scandal for television news. The two co-hosts began an affair in June 2022; however, it wasn't brought to light until November 2022 after photos showed the two journalists getting awfully close for just co-workers. Not long after the news broke of the affair, Holmes and Robach got the boot from ABC. The network released a statement sharing, "After several productive conversations with Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes about different options, we all agreed it's best for everyone that they move on from ABC News ... A decision for new co-hosts will come later."

Well, the time has officially come as Eva Pilgrim and DeMarco Morgan have been announced as replacements on "GMA 3." ABC News President Kim Godwin shared in a memo, "I am incredibly proud of the reporting Eva, DeMarco, and Gio [Benitez] have brought to ABC News. I know these programs – and our viewers at home – will be well-served by all of their collective talents." While viewers will get to know Pilgrim and Morgan more as they co-anchor the show, it's never too early to become familiar with the new faces of "GMA 3." Here's everything we know about Morgan, the news anchor replacing Holmes.

DeMarco Morgan is absolutely qualified for GMA 3 position

When it came down to the decision to replace T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach, DeMarco Morgan was more than capable of taking the daunting role. According to The U.S. Sun, the anchor earned his undergraduate degree at Jackson State University but didn't stop there. Morgan moved to New York City to attend the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. After he obtained his degrees, he went on to join CBS2 News in Los Angeles in 2015.

It was evident that Morgan was a great journalist as co-workers had nothing but nice things to say about the 44-year-old when he made his departure for ABC in 2022. One coworker tweeted, "Best of luck in your next adventure @DeMarcoReports thanks for hanging out with this @CBSLA crew every morning! #cbsla #newsteam #amnewsers." According to Us Weekly, Morgan joined ABC's New York sector at "GMA" and "ABC News."

Even though Morgan was a part of the ABC family for just a year before he was announced as Holmes' replacement, he made quite an impression on the network. In March 2023, a source revealed to ET, "DeMarco dropped everything at the onset once the news broke about Amy and T.J. to head to New York City and take on anchoring duties, and that does not go unnoticed." He's clearly qualified to step in for the anchoring role, but more than just his work, he enjoys several other activities.

DeMarco Morgan is athletic and loves traveling

DeMarco Morgan is a busy man but still sets aside time for things he enjoys. The news anchor loves to get involved in various athletic activities. In 2019, Morgan joined the Malibu Triathlon, where he took on the running portion of the three-part course. He posted a photo of himself in the race with the caption, "M A L I B U – T R I A T H L O N – May this be the first of many." Although it doesn't seem he has had time to run another triathlon, he does enjoy a casual run now and then as well as biking. In 2022, the journalist posted a photo of him and his friend biking in California. He wrote, "P A L O S – V E R D E S – Ate those hills today (barely..lol) ..with the help of my Bruva @trgfit."

When he's not getting involved in athletics or anchoring the latest news, Morgan enjoys the beauty of traveling. In 2021, Morgan shared a series of posts of him in the stunning country of Colombia. The journalist captured one of the buildings in the country and captioned his post, "C O L O M B I A ... Beauty is her name. If this doesn't make you feel good. #BlackIsBeautiful."
