What Liam Hemsworth's Off-Screen Relationship With Josh Hutcherson Was Really Like

Team Gale and Team Peeta couldn't tear Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson apart. Although "The Hunger Games" trilogy seemed to pit the two characters against one another, the actors were close friends in real life. Between Hutcherson, Hemsworth, and fellow co-star Jennifer Lawrence, the trio was unbreakable.

Hutcherson even shared how filming the movies didn't feel like work at all because of how much fun he had with his castmates, per Us Weekly. He said, "The truth is, it was literally what everyone saw in all of our interviews together. It was all of us being ridiculous children together, horsing around. I don't know how we got any work done ever." The actors worked together for nearly five years, so it's not surprising they formed a close bond with one another, especially Hemsworth and Hutcherson.

The two actors built a great relationship thanks to the films and the countless interviews they had to do with one another. In one interview, Hutcherson and Hemsworth were asked who Katniss would choose if she had to pick between the two actors' real-life personas, per Heatworld. The co-stars could not stop complimenting one another when answering the question. Hutcherson shared, "She [Katniss] should choose Liam," right before Hemsworth interjected and shared that she should choose Hutcherson. Hemsworth continued, "Cause he's such a great guy." The two went back and forth for a bit as they laughed about the question and their responses, proving that their friendship went beyond the cameras.

Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth have countless memories

We have seen plenty of bromances in Hollywood, but none quite like Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. When the pair signed on for the "Hunger Games" films, they had no idea that they were going to get such a great friendship out of it.

The pair has gotten so close that they can joke about smooching one another! Seems random, but Hemsworth teased to E! News that he and Hutcherson kissed in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire." The Australian native shared, "Josh and I kiss in this film. It's a really epic scene. I'm excited for fans to see it." Of course, "The Last Song" actor was kidding as he couldn't give any details on the upcoming film, but that didn't stop him from continuing the joke. He said, "If you're talking about similarities and differences between the book and the movies, that's one of them — Josh and I kiss."

Their co-star, Jennifer Lawrence, even shared some interesting details about the activity the three would participate in following movie premieres, per The New York Times. Lawrence revealed, "The boys and I would always go back to our hotel and just drink whiskey and get stoned." The intensity of how popular the films were made things overwhelming, which is why they would partake in drinking and smoking. But through it all, the trio always had each other to lean on, especially "the boys," as Lawrence called them.

Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth kept in touch after The Hunger Games

Sometimes distance can cause relationships to falter, and fans were terrified this would happen to Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth after they wrapped "The Hunger Games" films. But they had nothing to worry about.

Although Hutcherson admitted in 2020 to not having a group chat with his "Hunger Games" co-stars, he did reveal the cast hangs out with each other any chance they get, per Us Weekly. The "Bridge To Terabithia" actor shared, "We always get together and see each other when we're in the same place...We've got a couple email threads that a few of us are on but we don't have a group chat." The actor even revealed to Entertainment Tonight that, specifically, he and Hemsworth got together the year before the pandemic hit. He said, "...I saw Liam towards the end of last year, but this year he's been off in Australia. We catch up every time we can."

In 2019, Hutcherson even joked he was upset that he wasn't invited to Hemsworth's wedding, per "Live! with Kelly and Ryan." When Seacrest reassured that only family was in attendance, Hutcherson joked, "...but I thought I was part of that [family]." Funnily enough, Hemsworth was on the show a month later and revealed he and his co-star had a lengthy phone call, but never mentioned the wedding. Still, it was good to see that the two keep in contact with one another as the bromance lives on.
