A Look At LeAnn Rimes' Relationship With Eddie Cibrian's Two Sons
Although LeAnn Rimes doesn't have any biological children, she became a stepmom to two sons when she married her husband, Eddie Cibrian, in 2011. Cibrian's children — Jake Cibrian and Mason Cibrian — were born during his previous marriage to "RHOBH" star Brandi Glanville. Mason and Jake were super young when Rimes legally became their stepmom and even younger when Rimes and Eddie had an affair on the set of "Northern Lights," which eventually ended Eddie's marriage to Glanville. Despite the drama, Rimes and Eddie are still together as of October 2023.
In 2011, Rimes appeared on "Chelsea Lately" and shared whether she and Eddie planned to have their own kids in the near future. "No, not yet," Rimes replied to host Chelsea Handler, per E! News. "I'm not one of those that's joined the club yet." Rimes also revealed that she and Eddie were contributing to 50% of Mason and Jake's childcare, thus keeping them plenty busy. Given that Rimes and Eddie's social media is full of evidence of their fun, family events, and other gushy sentimental posts — such as Rimes' 2023 Father's Day dedication to Eddie — it's clear that Rimes has played an enormous role in her stepchildren's lives over the years. However, Rimes struggled early on with the experience.
LeAnn Rimes's stepmom journey has been tough
LeAnn Rimes has been incredibly open about her stepmom journey, which didn't start on the easiest of terms. In 2011, Rimes rejected the step-parent label altogether. "Step. Stepmother, Stepfather, Stepchildren — the word 'step' can take on such a connotation to so many in our society," Rimes wrote on her website. Rimes also shared that she sometimes felt intimidated entering an already-established family dynamic.
In 2017, Rimes spoke with Refinery 29 and further explored her feelings about parenting during the early days of her relationship with Eddie Cibrian. "I think parenting is challenging, period," Rimes admitted, citing that her illustrious career prevented her from having a normal childhood. "When I was first around the kids, I didn't know what was expected of me ..." she continued, adding, "It's been a really big learning experience for me. It's pushed my buttons, which has always made me look and see where I need more healing."
Later in the interview, Rimes revealed that Eddie helped set the tone for their household by going out of his way to treat Rimes with respect in front of them rather than just telling them to respect her. Fortunately, it seems like Eddie's plan worked.
Rimes has a great relationship with her step kids
Even though it sounds like LeAnne Rimes and her stepkids all had to adjust to each other's presence, things seem better today. In 2016, Rimes appeared on "Loose Women," sharing her strides as a stepmother. "It was quite the adjustment," revealed Rimes about their early family dynamic, according to E! News. "I think any blended family takes a while." Fortunately, Rimes also shared that they'd finally settled into a healthy dynamic.
In 2020, Rimes revealed that her stepsons weren't typical Hollywood kids when discussing if they'd been hounding her to attend glamorous Grammy events. "They're not that way at all, actually. They're so chill," shared Rimes with People. "I think it's from being around all of us, they're like, 'Whatever, no one's that cool.'" She continued, "They're like, 'What do you do again? Like, what?'" Fortunately, it seems that Jake and Mason love spending quality time together with Rimes and their dad, whether they're vacationing in Malibu, posing for St. Patrick's Day pics, or enjoying a night out at an NBA game.
And that's all that really matters!
