Stars Who Are Always Surrounded By Controversy

What do Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan and Miley Cyrus have in common? They're always topping tabloids for the wrong reasons. From twerking fiascos, to health scares, political rants to legal trouble, these are the celebs who seem to need a cup of controversy just to wake up in the morning.

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan just entered her 30s, yet she's been tied up in more controversies than stars twice her age. Between arrests and stints in rehab, there was a point in the actress' career where publications were allegedly pre-writing her obituary. As Lohan now tries to steer her career from teenage sensation to serious adult actor, her controversies are dragging her down.

Though she hasn't made a successful feature-length movie in years, in 2015, Lohan provided some indications that her wild days are finally a thing of the past. For one thing, she's happily dating Russian business heir Egor Tarabasov, to whom she may or may not be engaged. She's also become more invested in politics than partying, as evidenced by her impassioned but since-deleted Twitter rant about Great Britain's vote to exit the European Union in June 2016. Though Lohan's "Brexit" dialogue attracted mockery from the press, a little bad publicity over international economics sure beats all those lawbreaking headlines from her past.

Kanye West

For well over a decade, rapper Kanye West has made headlines for his outrageous antics and controversial quotes. Remember the time he said former President George W. Bush "doesn't care about black people" during a telethon for victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005? Or the time he posed as Jesus on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine in 2006? How about the Twitter rants he posted in 2016 asking Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg for $1 billion dollars so he could "bring more beautiful ideas to the world?" You can't make this stuff up.

Of course, none of those incidents top the time he interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech during the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009. That moment nearly derailed his career, and has since launched so many sub-controversies that we doubt the two of them will ever make peace. In other words: don't expect West to quiet down anytime soon.

Justin Bieber

Anyone hoping that Justin Bieber would grow up to become a fine, upstanding gentleman has been repeatedly disappointed by the "Sorry" singer's wild string of antics. Among the many scandals: he's been arrested, made racist jokes, and behaved like a neighbor from hell. In fact, he's been at the center of so many controversies that he's actually managed to piss off multiple countries around the world. That's a whole lot of drama for a guy who turned 22 in 2016. One would think the Biebs would have had a come-to-Jesus moment by now, but considering he made headlines in June 2016 for brawling with an angry fan in Cleveland, odds are, he clearly loves himself too much to behave like an adult.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift is one of the music industry's most successful artists, but despite her fortune and fame, the world can't seem to stop obsessing about her dating life. To be fair, Swift feeds the beast. Many of her most popular songs have been rumored to be about her ex-boyfriends. But in the past decade or so, Swift's personal life has had more twists and turns than a cheap romance novel.

She too, relationship drama to a new level when she broke up with DJ Calvin Harris and very-quickly rebound with Thor star Tom Hiddleston in a matter of weeks between May and June 2016. Just two weeks after her split from Harris was confirmed, Swift was photographed making out and taking selfies with Hiddleston, then jet-setting on one of the most elaborate and insane world tours we've seen in years. (Yes, they've already met each other's parents.) In fact, Swift's new relationship has generated so much controversy and so many eyeballs, it's no wonder Harris was quick to release a breakup song first.

Miley Cyrus

Once the sweet, innocent star of the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus has since grown into what can only be described as the most public act of rebellion maybe ever. She got engaged at 19 years old. She lit a joint on stage in Amsterdam (to be fair, you can do that legally there). She got into a ridiculous, out-of-her-league fight with Nicki Minaj, who promptly put her in her place. Seriously, it's gotten to the point where one could ask, "Well, what hasn't Miley done to get herself into trouble?"

Truth be told: we grew up in the comfort of our own homes, not in front of the spotlight. We can only imagine what kind of pressure Cyrus has dealt with. Still, between twerking on Robin Thicke and riding a wrecking ball in her underwear, Miley is beginning to make us think those cherubin days of Hannah Montana were just a dream.

Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen has attracted controversy from what seems like day one of his career. Things took a real turn for the worse during the first decade of the 2000s, when his failed marriages to Denise Richards and Brooke Mueller made nasty headlines.

Things only got worse from there. In 2011, he got into a highly publicized feud with Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre that quickly got him fired from the top-rated CBS sitcom. Around that time, he boasted during numerous interviews about his new life living with two young women, whom he referred to as his "goddesses." Things spiraled so out of control that entire galleries on the internet are now dedicated to his erratic behavior over the years.

In 2015, amid numerous tabloid reports, Sheen confirmed he is HIV-positive. The revelation itself was not without controversy. Sheen claimed he was coming forward with the news only after paying millions of dollars in hush money to people who threatened to expose his secret. On the bright side, Sheen claims he's now living a happy and healthy life after accepting his diagnosis. That said, so long as he's famous, expect controversy to follow Sheen wherever he goes.

The entire Kardashian family

What would the Kardashian family be, exactly, without a little controversy? Some have argued they wouldn't even be famous had it not been for one particular controversy—you know, Kim Kardashian's infamous sex tape.

Since that moment, the Kardashians have crisis-managed their way through a seemingly endless list of headline-making scandals. There was that time when Kim married basketball star Kris Humphries, then divorced him 72 days later. And that time when Khloe Kardashian's marriage to basketball great Lamar Odom fell apart amid rumors of drugs and alcohol. Then Rob Kardashian got Kim's frenemy, model Blac Chyna, pregnant and put a ring on it. Kourtney Kardashian's relationship to Scott Disick hits the rocks about every five minutes. And...yeah, you get the idea.
