Carrie Underwood Completely Divides Fans With Her Limp Bizkit Performance

Carrie Underwood surprised fans at Velocity Festival when she performed Limp Bizkit's "Break Stuff," and let's just say, the internet had thoughts. However, not everyone was on the same page, with some cheering her on and others politely suggesting she not do it again. And then, there were some who weren't quite as polite.

Unfortunately for Underwood, a lot of the chatter online about her "Break Stuff" cover was negative — and some of it even came from her fans. "I like her, but this sucks," an X user complained. Over on YouTube, people were even more impassioned. "This is absolutely ridiculous and whoever told her that it's a good idea should be fired," one said. If that wasn't already yikes-worthy in itself, others couldn't pass up an opportunity to poke fun at Underwood using her own lyrics. "Jesus should retake the wheel," joked one on X. "Now we know why he cheated," wrote another on YouTube ... and TBH, we have a feeling even Underwood would have gotten a chuckle out of that one. 

Of course, not everyone was quite so harsh. In fact, some said they really enjoyed the performance. "I may be the only one supporting this ... haha. She recorded a song with Papa Roach and has performed Last Resort live with them. So she's a country artist who likes nü metal ... good for her!" wrote one X user. Over on YouTube, someone else agreed. "That isn't so bad. It's actually pretty good," they opined. Yet another felt the same way, penning in part, "It's awesome. I hear people are mad that she can like other genres of music. She had fun." Similarly, another wrote, "It's just funny more than anything." That's just as well, because another said it felt like they were watching "Saturday Night Live."

While much of the social media commentary about Carrie Underwood's "Break Stuff" cover revolved around her doing the song in the first place, some had more thoughts on the words she left out. Fans of the Fred Durst-fronted Limp Bizkit will no doubt know the lyrics of "Break Stuff" aren't the most family-friendly, and it's possible Underwood opted to leave them out to avoid any controversy. However, some fans were annoyed by that. 

"If you're going to censor yourself why even pick that song? Incredibly lame," lamented one X user. Another replied that Underwood was well within her rights to do so, but the original poster doubled down. "A lot of things are allowed. That doesn't mean they're good," they said. Some YouTube users weren't impressed either, with one asking, "Why even sing it if you're going to cut out the most satisfying parts?" Again, though, opinions were divided, and many others said they loved the fact that she cut out the cursing. "Massive respect to her for not using any of the potty words," gushed one Instagram fan who'd also said they'd been waiting on a Limp Bizkit cover from her for years. Another who'd been at the festival pointed out that the audience hadn't exactly needed her to say every word. "The 'no potty words' cover of Limp Bizkit was awesome. We helped fill in the blanks you left for us!" they said. 

It's worth noting that even with all the chatter, the "American Idol" alum isn't particularly bothered. Far from it, she shared a vlog after the performance just as she normally would, and she even addressed the covers. "I think they liked our covers — I hope so! I did. I had a blast," she said. Well, that's what matters most!
