Wedding Dresses Of HGTV Stars That Missed The Mark

For many stars of HGTV, their marriages are a key part of their popularity. Just take a look inside the marriage of Erin and Ben Napier or Egypt Sherrod and Mike Johnson. Their relationships take center stage in their shows, so it's no surprise fans are always curious about their romance, including things like their weddings. They want to know every detail, including what the wedding dress looked like. 

Plenty of big HGTV names have shared photos of their weddings over the years, and let's just say that the dresses didn't always hit the mark. Whether the ceremony was in the last five years or the last 20 years, wedding dress style is eternal, and you can always tell if a dress is a good fit for someone. Sure, the stars of HGTV shows are known for their design talent and eye for detail in homes, but when it comes to personal style, that's another story. 

In fact, a handful of TV personalities from the network, like Napier and Sherrod, should've maybe tried a few more dresses before deciding on the one they went with when it came to their big day. Take a look at some of the TV stars you know and love who didn't have the best wedding style. 

If anyone on this list's TV identity is most tied to their marriage and wedding, it's Egypt Sherrod and her husband, Mike Johnson. While Sherrod was a host on various HGTV programs before her hit show, "Married to Real Estate," the show was arguably when she and Johnson really hit their stride. Unfortunately, it was canceled in 2025 — and became one of HGTV's messiest fallouts. And, while some people may have thought that something about Sherrod and Johnson's marriage always felt off, that marriage was at the core of the show. Sherrod shared photos from their 2010 wedding on social media, and we have to say that the dress may have been an even bigger mess.

In the snaps, Sherrod looked gorgeous, with chic makeup and hair parted to the side with tight curls. But her dress simply didn't highlight her natural beauty enough. She wore a strapless mermaid gown with a sparkling accent under the bust. The bride completed the outfit with a plain veil that fell to the waist. While it's undeniable that Sherrod looked great on her wedding day, the simple gown and overused silhouette just didn't do her any favors. She needed something a little more show-stopping for the big day. 

Despite the wedding dress that could've been better, Sherrod and Johnson looked very happy during their wedding, surrounded by friends and family. Sherrod's daughter Simone, who is Johnson's stepdaughter, was at the special occasion as well. The HGTV star looked back on the day fondly while reminiscing on Instagram, declaring, "On that day and everyday since, I wake up and say I DO!"

Mika Kleinschmidt hosts the home improvement show "100 Day Dream Home" with her husband Brian. The two work together to give someone a dream home in just 100 days, and the pilot premiered in 2019. While fans get to see the couple's chemistry on-screen as they spend quality time together on the job, they also love the chance to learn about major moments in their relationship in the past. Luckily, Mika shared some photos from their special day on Instagram while celebrating their anniversary in 2024. 

In the dreamy photos from their wedding day in 2015, Mika and Brian posed in the Arizona wilderness in their outfits, looking lovey-dovey together. But one thing that stood out in the photos, and not for a good reason, was Mika's dress. The TV star wore a dress with a straight skirt and a unique neckline. From the front, the dress looked like it had two straps, one for each shoulder. But in the back, the straps came together and extended down to the rest of the dress. 

Although it's an interesting design, it just didn't work well, especially with the setting for the photos and the hairstyle Mika went for. Her hair was done in a sort of updo with it pinned to the side, with a pouf at the top that swooped to the left. The more boho-inspired dress clashed with the sleek hairstyle. And it all looked strange in the wilderness, with Mika's long train trailing in the dirt. Despite the odd dress she went with, the couple still looked so in love in the wedding pictures.

When she's not busy working on an HGTV project or something similar, she shows off her cute family on social media, including throwback photos to her wedding. 

In September 2020, she marked their seventh anniversary by sharing a photo from their day on Instagram. In the snap, Jasmine looked like she was sneaking up behind Brett to surprise him while revealing her wedding look. The dress that she wore was a strapless number with a tulle skirt. The simple yet elegant dress was good on its own, but it was Jasmine's key accessory that completely threw off the ensemble. At her wedding, she wore a headband that went around her forehead, unflatteringly poufing up the top of her hair. 

While it added a boho edge to the outfit that fit well with Jasmine's vibe, it just went one step too far, taking away from the chicness of the dress and dressing it down. Sure, it included gold and sparkles that made it look slightly more formal, but it wasn't enough. It seems like a different statement accessory could've added the boho style to the outfit without compromising on anything else.

Ben and Erin Napier are a fan-favorite couple on HGTV. They've been together for a long time now, having met when they started college. They got married in 2008, and fans absolutely love anytime the two open up about their love story. Erin has shared photos from their wedding online before, like when they marked an anniversary, and their grounded wedding ceremony is super sweet to see. But one thing that we think could've been better is definitely Erin's dress. 

The mother of two landed on a more vintage-inspired gown covered in lace with a sparkling belt under the bodice. She completed the wedding look with a small birdcage veil. While both the dress and the veil are great on their own as an ode to vintage wedding style, together, they truly made Erin look like a bride from decades past. If only she had picked one or the other to build her wedding outfit around. The big curls in her short blonde hair didn't help either. We might've suggested a long veil to flow down the back of her lacy dress instead of the option she went with.

Obviously, the young couple still looked adorable together on their big day, and it's a privilege to see the special personal photos from the "Home Town" stars. But we just think Erin's pick for her outfit fell a little short of its potential. 

Jenn Todryk, who hosts the show "No Demo Reno" on HGTV, has a very recognizable look for fans of the TV network. With her long, straight red hair and big smile, it's easy to spot Jenn when she shows up on television. She has a relaxed and casual style that fans love, but as you would expect, she got all glammed up like anyone else for her wedding to her husband, Mike Todryk. The couple got married all the way back in 2011 with a destination wedding in Mexico, and you might be surprised when you see Jenn's wedding look.

As a designer, Jenn is able to adapt to any different home you throw at her, no matter the shape or size. But it turns out this versatile style doesn't extend to formal fashion. In 2020, her husband shared a carousel of photos from their wedding to celebrate how long they've been together. For her beachy ceremony, Jenn wore an unexpectedly structured dress and a dramatic updo that really didn't fit the setting. It was a strapless mermaid gown made of a fabric that looked heavy and stiff. 

The hairstyle wasn't great either. It was curled and clipped back on one side, with a pouf at the top. The hairdo was really too structured for the tropical location and just didn't suit Jenn at all. And even though she added a big white flower in her hair, it still missed the mark. Despite the outfit, Jenn and Mike practically glowed in the photos, and they're still going strong now.
