Prince Harry & Meghan Markle's Worst-Dressed Moments As A Couple

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are no strangers to being in the public eye. As high-profile figures, they have had to make countless public appearances over the years. It stands to reason that not all of their outfits are going to be winners when they step out in front of cameras. While being in the Royal family has given Harry a lifetime of practice in what to wear and not wear, fitting royal protocol does not always equate to looking stylish. In fact, sometimes the Sussexes' outfits can appear over-the-top or downright absurd. 

Since their wedding on May 19, 2018, the royal couple has suffered many fashion flops over the years. Even after resigning as senior royals and moving to the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, they continued making public appearances where they struggled with their wardrobe. In August 2026, the couple moved their family back to England, and an expert told Nicki Swift that Harry and Meghan's U.K. return would live or die on the state of their marriage. The move was also the perfect excuse to do a wardrobe refresh in hopes of avoiding further worst-dressed moments like those below. 

When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the Scar Tree Walk during their royal trip to Melbourne, Australia, in April 2026, they arrived in relaxed attire. Unfortunately, their outfits did not go well together. Meghan Markle sported a printed tee with a red heart that said "Mama" on it. The shirt came from the LA-based organization Alliance of Moms, which was cofounded by her friend Kelly McKee Zajfen. Meghan paired the casual jeans, tee, and sneakers look with a long trench coat that did not seem to suit the weather or her outfit. Meanwhile, Prince Harry rolled up his sleeves on his blue button-down, which he wore with casual jeans and sneakers.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle didn't look like they had fashion in mind when they stepped out for the sitting volleyball finals at the Merkur Spiel-Arena during the Invictus Games in Duesseldorf, Germany, on September 15, 2023. Despite it also being Harry's 39th birthday that day, the couple did not dress for the occasion. Harry was dressed down in an Invictus Games polo and black jeans that were both noticeably wrinkly. Meghan's dress managed to be just as wrinkly as her husband's attire, with a sloppy tie around her waist and unbuttoned buttons on both the top and bottom of her dress. The looks were uncharacteristically messy for the public figures. 

When the Sussexes attended the wedding of Prince Harry's school friend Charlie Van Straubenzee and Daisy Jenks on August 4, 2018, in Frensham, United Kingdom, they both wore bizarre outfits that should have had them arrested by the fashion police. Meghan Markle wore an oddly patterned dress that incorporated black, white, dark green, and light pink ... none of which looked good together. The black heels, hat, belt, and clutch did little to redeem her fashion crime of a dress. Harry's pinstriped trousers also weren't doing the couple any favors, as they clashed with his blue vest, making both of their outfits look overly busy next to each other. 

Just like Meghan Markle's NYC pantsuit fashion fail, her outfit was once again too baggy for the Sussexes' September 2023 appearance at the Invictus Games in Duesseldorf, Germany. She wore a cream-colored romper, and the shorts appeared to be three times the size of her legs. The loose-fitting garment was also swallowed by a blazer of the same color, making the whole outfit look oversized and unflattering. Prince Harry's outfit was not much better: His pants looked awkwardly low on his waistline, and his shoe color didn't match his wrinkly blue button-down at all.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were on totally different fashion pages when they were spotted in Birkenhead, England, in January 2019 while she was pregnant with Prince Archie. Meghan was dressed in an extremely loud outfit. She wore a a bright purple maternity dress underneath a bright red coat with matching high heels. The eyesore combo of red and purple usually ends in a fashion disaster, and this occasion was no different. Her brown purse did not help the busy, clashing color scheme. On the flip side, Harry opted for quiet neutral colors like gray and navy blue that got washed out by his wife's blinding outfit. 

During the second day of their Morocco tour in February 2019, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry attended a reception in Rabat. Meghan, who was pregnant with Prince Archie, wore a cream-colored Dior dress that looked like it was straight out of the "Star Wars" or "Dune" franchises. Her low bun hairstyle also did not help her avoid comparisons to Princess Leia. The designer dress was not your typical maternity clothing, as the jaw-dropping price became a controversial topic online. "The fact that the Dior Moo-moo cost around 90,000 pounds was outrageous," one Redditor said. Harry's dark green tie also did not pair well with his navy-blue suit, making for an unusual color scheme. 

During their same trip to Rabat, Morocco, in February 2019, Meghan Markle wore an elaborate custom gown by Carolina Herrera. The heavily patterned blue dress featured uneven frills on the bottom and sleeves. "That blue dress is one of the most unflattering pieces of fabric I've ever seen," one Redditor said. The couple's look could not be saved by Prince Harry's attire beside her. He wore a light gray suit with dark blue suede shoes that loosely matched his wife's blue gown. However, he completely ruined their chances at complementing one another by wearing a dull light red tie that wasn't doing anyone any favors. Not only did it clash with Meghan's dress, but the tie's color also made no sense with his shoes.

Shortly before tying the knot in May 2018, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle managed to look like track team villains from a Disney sports movie at the U.K. Team Trials for the Invictus Games on April 6, 2018, in Bath, England. They both wore black Invictus Games polos with dark pants to match. Harry also wore an Invictus Games jacket with yellow accents, channeling a track star while standing on the track field. Meghan's long coat and black heels added to the couple's overall track team villain vibes. Despite matching polos and dark pants, the couple still ended up looking mismatched due to their jackets and shoes. 

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did not put much thought into their outfits when they spoke at EAN University in Bogota, Colombia, on August 15, 2024. Meghan wore a baggy bronze button-down shirt that had an awkwardly deep neckline after she left a couple of buttons unbuttoned. She paired it with satin wide-leg trousers of a darker bronze, making her entire outfit look oversized and ill-fitting. Meanwhile, Harry proved yet again that he has a preference for blue button-downs, which has been a common sight on their worst-dressed list. His shoes also looked noticeably dusty and in need of a cleaning or shining. 

Despite being the couple who ruined the royal family's image the most, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their royal rounds in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on March 23, 2018. During their visit, it seemed the couple could not agree on a color scheme to properly complement each other. Harry went with dark neutrals, opting for a dark blue sweater, tie, and shoes, along with dark trousers and a gray jacket. Meanwhile, Meghan went much lighter with a cream top and long beige coat. Her dark green skirt also popped against her brown heels and purse. The clashing array of colors in both of their outfits did not pair well when standing beside one another, leading to yet another fashion flop.
