2026 Daytime Emmys: The Biggest Fashion Flops
As the sun set over the Hollywood Palladium on October 30, the biggest stars of television's morning and afternoon time slots hit the 2026 Daytime Emmy Awards red carpet in their eveningwear. Unfortunately, there were some frightful fashion flops lurking about on Halloween eve that should have stayed in the shadows.
The cast and crew of "The Young and the Restless" already had a reason to celebrate before the Palladium opened its doors to welcome a flood of colorful fabrics and sparkling accessories. The soap opera started the night with bragging rights to the most nominations: 18, to be exact. But in the outstanding daytime drama series category, it faced stiff competition from "Days of Our Lives," "Beyond the Gates," and the night's big winner, "General Hospital." Among those competing for statuettes were also our favorite small screen personalities with the gift of gab. The talk show host category hopefuls included Kelly Clarkson, Tamron Hall, Jennifer Hudson, and winner Sherri Shepherd, who was lucky enough to leave "The View" before its wardrobe budget took a nosedive. Speaking of which, rounding out the competition were Whoopi Goldberg and the gang — and "The View" co-hosts have been known to dress inappropriately on occasion.
So which soap stars didn't clean up so nicely at the Daytime Emmys this year? And did any talk show hosts need to have a serious talk with their stylists? Here are the stars who lost the plot in the wardrobe department.
Michelle Stafford's ghoulish green gown had to be strapped down
Sure, naked dresses have gone way past passé, but "The Young and the Restless" star Michelle Stafford's take on showing a lot of skin wasn't much of an improvement. You can't blame her for wanting to flaunt that fabulous figure, but why not choose a more flattering color? Her gown's shade of green could have come from a color swatch chart for zombie makeup. And if she was simply getting in the Halloween spirit, doing the Monster Mash in her dress just might result in a graveyard flash. The sparkly straps didn't do much to help the lifeless color — and they screamed belt from a Claire's rack — but they were definitely a requirement to keep her dress from becoming X-rated.
Roger Howarth was a winner, but his bad black and plaid ensemble was not
"The Young and the Restless" star Roger Howarth went home with a shiny accessory that improved his outfit just a little: an outstanding supporting actor in a drama series Emmy. He definitely needed the award to distract the eye from his outfit, which felt like something you might see on a Hallmark leading man who had to get dressed in a rush to chase down the love of his life in the snow. His double-breasted plaid jacket was heavy and looked far more suitable for wearing outdoors. His dress shirt was also wrinkled with some gaping between the buttons, and his black pants were shoved into his brown ankle boots. Overall, it was just a messy, slapdash look.
Heather Tom's dress belonged on the Addams family's front lawn
"The Bold and the Beautiful" star Heather Tom probably didn't intend for her all-black dress to look like a Halloween costume, but it was definitely more spooky season than awards season. And if we were to guess what she was supposed to be, Morticia Addams' flower bed seems like a solid bet. Unfortunately, she's buried in too many of those floral appliques, which have a construction paper cut-out quality that makes this look feel too lifeless, even for the Addams family's morbid tastes.
Kate Linder was a caped crusader ready to save a struggling casino
Sports betting apps might be encouraging more and more gambling fans to stay home to place their bets, but never fear — Kate Linder is here to ensure that we don't lose any of those gilded, gaudy interiors filled with the siren song of slot machines. At least, "The Young and the Restless" star's outfit looked like casino decor with its busy gold baroque pattern, and she was wearing a cape. Even without the latter and the gold brooch holding it in place, the sheer amount of that pattern made her casino superhero outfit a misguided attempt at maximalism.
