The Untold Truth Of Teen Mom 2's Jade Cline

Teen Mom takes the cake as one of most drama-filled reality television shows currently on the air (sorry, 90 Day Fiancé). The very premise of teenagers raising babies promises hours of content. Over the years, the stars from the many spinoffs inspired by MTV's show 16 and Pregnant have come and gone. That being said, Jenelle Evans is perhaps one of the most notorious Teen Mom alums.

Evans, who starred on Teen Mom 2, was fired by MTV in 2019 "after her husband David Eason allegedly shot and killed Evans' beloved dog, per People. It was out with the old in with the new(ish), as franchise veteran Jade Cline stepped in to take her place. Jade began her Teen Mom journey on Teen Mom: Young and Pregnant and earned a reputation for being a level-headed, responsible girl. On Teen Mom 2, she took cast mate's Kailyn Lowry's advice and tried to stay above the fray, per The Cinemaholic. Despite spending a significant chunk of her life on screen, Jade is still a bit of an enigma.

Here's everything we know about the Teen Mom 2 newcomer.

Jade Cline's relationship is complicated

Messy romances are a given on a lot of reality shows, but Jade Cline's on-again-off-again relationship with Sean Austin is one for the books. Viewers witnessed the couple's highs and many lows, including the birth of daughter Kloie (a high) and blow out arguments over video games (a definite low). However, like so many teenage romances, it seems they weren't built to last. According to Bustle, the pair called it quits in February 2019 "due to their constant arguing and Sean's substance use."

Jade told People later that year: "I mean, Sean will always be Kloie's dad, I'll always want him in her life," she said, adding, "I feel like me and him are doing our own thing." Fast forward to February 2020, and Jade took to Twitter to celebrate Sean's sobriety: "S/O to Sean," she wrote. "He's really done a 360 this year and I'm so proud of him. NEVER give up on people you see potential in. He's clean and living his best life. Plus is an awesome father. Go Sean. That really takes a strong a** person to over come addiction and depression."

In September 2020, Bustle reported that the two were seemingly back together. Additionally, the outlet noted that these days, Sean is pursuing his dream of becoming a professional DJ. In fact, he and Jade reportedly own a "traveling DJ business" called SevnSics.

Jade Cline comes from a troubled home

Unfortunately for the reality TV star, Sean Austin's struggles weren't Jade Cline's first experience with addiction. Growing up, Jade's mom, Christy Smith, dealt with substance abuse issues. Fans' hearts broke for Jade in 2019 when they learned her parents were incarcerated. According to RadarOnline, Christy "was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of paraphernalia." While her stepfather, Michael, "was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia."

During a Teen Mom 2 reunion episode in 2019, Jade opened up about the complicated dynamic with her parents, saying (via People), "They've been strung out for so long, they're like binge addicts, where they'll binge [on drugs] and then they'll be okay."

Jade also told her fellow moms that she was deeply affected by the loss of her biological father, who committed suicide when she was just six months old. "I feel like my real dad never loved me enough to stay and now I feel like, even when I have a second chance at a father, I feel like he never loved me enough to stay clean," she said through tears.

However, it seems Jade is determined to break the cycle for Kloie. According to People, aside from being a full-time cast member on a reality TV show, Jade is also working her way through beauty school, hoping to provide her daughter with the stability she never knew.
