The Special Name Billie Lourd Gave Her Son

Surprise! Billie Lourd and fiancé Austen Rydell are officially first-time parents, the Scream Queens star announced via Instagram on September 24, 2020. In the social media post, Lourd revealed that the couple had just welcomed a baby boy, alongside a sweet photo of his tiny feet peeking out from under a blue blanket.

Lourd and Rydell managed to keep the pregnancy under wraps for nine months, and their birth announcement therefore shocked many — including Lourd's Scream Queens co-star, Jamie Lee Curtis. "WAIT WHAT????" she wrote in the comments section. However, it seemed as if another one of her castmates was in the loop from the beginning. Lea Michele congratulated the happy couple, writing, in part: "He's finally here!"

Two people, however, were notably missing from the celebration: Carrie Fisher, Lourd's late mother, and Debbie Reynolds, Lourd's late grandmother. As fans will remember, the Star Wars icon died of cardiac arrest in December 2016. Reynolds, her mother, passed away just one day later of a stroke. But Lourd is making sure that her family's legacy gets passed down to the next generation, honoring her mom in the sweetest way.

Billie Lourd's baby boy is named after Carrie Fisher

In the caption of the pregnancy announcement, Lourd revealed her son's full name: Kingston Fisher Lourd Rydell. She flanked the baby boy's written moniker with crown emoji and blue hearts. Of course, in addition to adding her own last name as one of her son's middle names, she also proudly included her late mom's.

In a personal essay she wrote for Time magazine in November 2019, Lourd, who appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, talked about carrying on the tradition by wearing her mom's famous buns for her role as Lieutenant Kaydel Ko Connix.

"Some people carry on their family name, some people carry on holiday traditions – I was going to carry on the family hairstyle," Lourd shared.

And needless to say, she did more than just that, also choosing to honor her late mother's name in her son's. We love to see it.
