Why The Giraffe's Reveal Caught The Masked Singer Fans By Surprise

What makes The Masked Singer so fun is the absolute mystery of who might be under each one of the masks. Sometimes the big reveals are pretty obvious — like when Busta Rhymes was revealed in the season premiere. (There's only one person whose voice sounds like Busta Rhymes, and that's Busta Rhymes!) Sometimes, however, the judges on the show think they know who might be under a mask, only to find out they were completely wrong.

But then there are those times when the judges lock in their guesses and are wrong, but are so close that they were practically right. That was the case with season four's Giraffe. On the Oct. 7, 2020 episode, Giraffe sang Kool & The Gang's "Get Down On It" and, while the performance was fun and impressive, it wasn't enough to keep him in the competition. While Popcorn, Sun, and Snow Owls are moving on to the next round, Giraffe had to be unmasked. The judges all submitted their guesses, but they were all wrong. In fact, the big reveal was someone that pretty much no one saw coming.

None of the judges guessed Brian Austin Green as Giraffe

When Giraffe's mask came off, audiences discovered that it was actor Brian Austin Green! There were a few wild things about this reveal, including how close the judges came with their guesses. Guest judge Joel McHale guessed that it might be Jason Priestley, who was Green's co-star on 90210. Ken Jeong guessed actor Shia LaBeouf because he thought he spotted a Transformers hint in the clue package. It turns out the clue was, indeed, a fox. However, it wasn't referring to Megan Fox's role in Transformers — but to Fox as Green's ex

And then there's Robin Thicke, who was certain it was Blink-182's Travis Barker. He had no idea it was Green who, as it turns out, was one of his close friends. The two were close friends when they were younger, and Thicke mentioned that they even had their own singing group back in the day. In retrospect, Thicke got his own shout-out in Green's clue package — a robin sitting on Giraffe's shoulder!

But the judges shouldn't be too bummed that they didn't guess Green was under the Giraffe mask. The internet seemed just as lost and surprised by his identity. Guesses on Twitter ranged from Lin-Manuel Miranda to Kevin Hart, with only a few people thinking it might be Green, including this fan who recognized his voice right away.
