Inside RHOP Star Candiace Dillard's Tense Relationship With Her Mom

Candiace Dillard has been at the center of drama on the Real Housewives of Potomac. Whether she's throwing knives at Ashley Darby or getting her hair pulled by Monique Samuels, Candiace is no stranger to made-for-reality-TV catfights. But one of her most memorable quarrels on RHOP wasn't with the other Housewives — it was with her own mother.

Candiace's relationship with her mother Dorothy has been an ongoing storyline on the Bravo show. It was revealed that Dorothy, who works as a therapist, paid part of Candiace's mortgage on the home she lives in with her husband, Chris Bassett. The news became a hot topic among the ladies and Candiace was often shamed over it. It was Ashley's shade over Candiace's "mom's house" that even led to Candiace hurling the knife her way.

But while the Real Housewives of Potomac star has worked to break her co-dependency with her mother, Dorothy wasn't afraid to throw it in her face. Cameras filmed as Candiace and her mother argued over her demand for independence and Dorthy's reminder that she pays for everything.

Let's look back at that time Dorothy hit Candiace Dillard with her purse

Things came to a head during Candiace Dillard's wedding-planning process when her mother Dorothy tried to get her daughter to design the wedding to her liking. "The wedding is mine," Candiace shouted on-screen. But this was only the beginning of her mother's wrath. In July 2019, Candiace claimed that her mother hit her in the face with her purse. The mother and daughter attended a wedding together and got into an argument that turned physical. Shortly after the fight, Candiace began attending therapy sessions with her therapist mother.

"The hope after our first therapy session was that we would continue therapy and we had every intention of doing that," Candiace shared on The Real Housewives of Potomac After Show. "So we did a mother-daughter contract after therapy. And it worked for, like, five minutes. We both signed it." However, according to Candiace, her mother expressed support verbally, but her actions said otherwise.

The Bravolebrity claimed that her mother "would reference the contract and say, 'OK, we can't argue because we have to follow the mother-daughter contract,' but then it kind of faded away but I just kind of felt like she wasn't exactly open to it at that time." Candiace continued, "I do plan to sort of go back in with some faith and ask her if we can. Because I believe in therapy across the board." Here's hoping they're able to mend their relationship.
