Hillary Clinton Shares The Words She Lives By Ahead Of Election Day

With the second and final presidential debate of the 2020 election cycle in the books, voters are now focused on the day of reckoning, Nov. 3. While voting will look slightly different this year — including an influx of mail-in ballots and socially distanced lines wrapping around city blocks across the country — the act's importance remains essential, if not more important than ever before, according to celebrities who have spoken out throughout the campaign season. Musicians, including Lizzo, Billie Eilish, and John Legend, have been vocal about encouraging the public to exercise their right at the polls this year, while other celebs like Ryan Reynolds and Selena Gomez expressed excitement over their first voting experiences.

The nationwide effort to get out the vote has only been amplified in the lead up to Election Day, with the likes of former President Barack Obama joining former Vice President Joe Biden on the campaign trail and various GOP members also voicing the importance of this year's race. Hillary Clinton has also joined the push. As former U.S. secretary of state and the Democratic candidate who lost to Donald Trump in 2016, Clinton spoke with Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel to share her words to live by ahead of November's Election Day.

Hillary Clinton wants voters to focus on persistence and gratitude

Revealed first to People, the exchange took place when Hillary Clinton spoke to Bethenny Frankel for her podcast Just B With Bethenny, which profiles successful experts in various industries from business to entertainment and politics. "Mine is, 'Keep going and be grateful,'" Clinton said when asked about her mantra. "When you're knocked down, which everybody is, you've got to find a way to get back up. Maybe you get to your knees first and then you grab on something, you pull yourself up. Keep going and be grateful. Everyday."

"I really believe that gratitude is a discipline and if you practice it, it has really good effects on you," Clinton added. "So that's what I try to do." That's certainly something Clinton has experience with, considering her successful and inspiring career led to major upset in 2016.

Other celebrities have recently shared inspiring and reflective words leading up to the 2020 election, too. Captain Marvel actress Brie Larson, for example, reminded fans that it was ok to "take a breath" during the first (chaotic) presidential debate of the season. Actress Blake Lively joined the buzz in her own humorous way, revealing that her husband, Ryan Reynolds, "wept" while voting for the first time on Instagram. Rapper Cardi B, who famously supported the once-presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders, publicly switched her endorsement to Joe Biden once he was named the Democratic nominee. Regardless of party preference, it's great to see countless celebs actively encouraging fans to help determine the future of America!
