90 Day Fiance: Why Tarik Broke Off His First Engagement With Hazel

Each year, the couples cast on 90 Day Fiancé get messier and messier. For instance, who could forget Larissa Dos Santos Lima and Colt Johnson? Larissa accused Colt of cheating on her, uninvited his family to the wedding and, in the least shocking twist imaginable, she ended up divorcing him all in the span of a few seasons.

Not all 90 Day Fiancé couples are doomed, however. (Although, if we are being honest, most are.) There is always a chance that these couples will make it, despite all the drama. Season 8, which premiered in 2020, features cast members who are no strangers to scandal and drama, either. As soon as they were introduced to viewers, it was clear that this would be a season for the books, mostly thanks to Tarik Myers and Hazel Cagalitan. Tarik and Hazel are not exactly new to the scene. They appeared on Seasons 2 and 3 of Before the 90 Days, a spinoff of the original, before being asked back for Season 8 of 90 Day Fiancé.

To fully understand just how complex Tarik and Hazel's relationship is, however, we have to go back to the beginning. The pair was engaged when they were on Before the 90 Days, but their time on the show ended before they made it down the aisle. Now, years later, they are back on 90 Day Fiancé and still engaged. So what is the deal with their long engagement? It turns out there is a lot more behind their decision than simply pushing back the wedding because of COVID-19.

Tarik and Hazel's relationship just got more complicated

In a Season 8 episode of 90 Day Fiancé, Tarik Myers opened up about his engagement to Hazel Cagalitan. "In two-and-a-half years, everybody's going to go through it," Tarik reportedly said to his friend, per TV Insider. "Hazel and I had been engaged for almost a year but then we had a big misunderstanding," he continued. "What happened was, we thought she was pregnant. She takes a couple pregnancy tests: one positive, two negative. But the two negative were after like a week. So I'm thinking that she terminated the pregnancy," he added. "I'm thinking, 'I can't be with anybody who's going to do some s**t like this!'" (Not that it is Tarik's business what Hazel does with her body, but whatever.)

And that was just the tip of the iceberg in terms of weirdness. Thinking Hazel had an abortion, Tarik started talking to a woman named Minty. A few weeks later, Hazel reached out and explained that she had seen a doctor and that she was never pregnant, to begin with — she had gotten a false positive. Tarik and Hazel got back together, but with a catch: Hazel wanted Minty to be in a polyamorous relationship with them. Tarik and Minty both agreed, but it was short-lived.

Minty amicably left the relationship after a long weekend. As for Tarik and Hazel, they are busy figuring it all out in front of the cameras. Like we said — it all just keeps getting messier!
