Over 26% Of People Were Happy To See This Celebrity Couple Split
While some celebrity couples seem like they'll be together for the long haul, there are other famous pairs that simply weren't meant to be for one reason or another. Perhaps one person was unfaithful, or maybe their careers got in the way. Maybe they grew apart, or perhaps they were never truly compatible in the first place. Whatever was behind their problem (or maybe even multiple problems), it's sometimes a relief to see a couple split when that seems to be what's best for everyone involved. That's why Nicki Swift conducted a survey of 607 people asking which celebrity couple they were happy to see split.
Country singers Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, who were once husband and wife but have both moved on, earned 8.07 percent of the votes, proving that even fans think they're better off without each other. As for former Twilight co-stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, they're one duo that the public might want to see rekindle a romance on-screen but not in real life, which is why they took in 14.83 percent of votes in our survey. A few more people — i.e., 15.65 percent of those who answered — are pleased that Jesse James and Sandra Bullock ended their troubled marriage, while a whopping 24.05 percent were just as satisfied to see Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman decided to divorce.
However, there is another former couple that even more people were happy to see call it quits.
Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber have a long history (that should stay in the past?)
Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber were once one of the cutest young celebrity couples around. After being spotted out together in 2010, the two "finally went public as a couple at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party in February 2011," according to People. While they seemed to have a lot in common — in addition to being rich, famous, and talented, they were also both raised by teen moms and shared a strong Christian faith — they also faced navigating a relationship in the spotlight, which lead to everything from breakup (and engagement) rumors.
Although Gomez and Bieber were initially together for two years before calling it quits, they reconnected in various ways in 2014, 2015, 2017, and again in early 2018, as per People. Other years saw the two either existing amicably or showing signs that things weren't exactly great between them anymore. While Bieber went on to marry Hailey Baldwin in late 2018 (and again in 2019), Gomez opened up to NPR in 2020, saying that she experienced "emotional abuse" during her relationship with her ex.
With all of that to consider, it's no wonder why 26.69 percent of people who took our survey were happy to see these two split up ... for good?
