Why Trey Songz Got Arrested At The Kansas City Chiefs Game

Singer-songwriter Trey Songz is in some hot water after attending the Kansas City Chiefs game on Jan. 24, 2021. The artist found himself in the middle of an altercation with a police officer, according to a video filmed at the Arrowhead Stadium obtained by TMZ. The officer can be seen trying to forcefully remove Songz from his seat in the bleachers, before he threw a punch at the officer's head and got him in a headlock as the officer tried to pin him down.

Backup arrived on the scene and separated the two. They then placed Songz in handcuffs and took him into police custody. Songz was arrested for trespassing, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer, according to the outlet. He was placed on a 24-hour hold and is "likely to be released" on the evening of Jan. 25, 2021.

Although the video footage showed Songz resisting arrest, bystanders at the event said the officer was "way out if line." Keep scrolling for more details about what lead to Songz' arrest.

Hecklers caused trouble for Trey Songz

Prior to Trey Songz' scuffle with police, the artist was allegedly being "heckled" by other sports fans, bystanders told TMZ. As the hecklers howled from the bleachers a few rows behind Songz, he called back and asked them to "chill out." At that point, eyewitnesses said Songz was approached by the police officer, "and without warning, went after him." Those who saw the incident said the singer-songwriter was "caught off guard" when the situation escalated so quickly, causing him to defend himself when the officer got physical.

The officer was "way out of line," one witness told the outlet. Additionally, fans could be heard yelling at the officer to get off of Songz, and once back up arrived, they demanded the officer's arrest, according to the video footage obtained by TMZ.

Several fans took to Twitter to comment on the situation and suggested the altercation was an act of prejudice. "Witnesses are reporting that a suspected racist white cop racially targeted Trey Songz & harassed him at the Chiefs vs Bills game. It appears Trey had no choice but to defend himself & punch & put the suspected racist cop in a choke hold, & then Trey Songz was unjustly arrested," one user wrote with a clip from the now-viral video. As of this writing, Songz and the officer have yet to comment on the situation.
