As fans at home prepared Super Bowl snacks, and a lucky few essential workers (and some cardboard cutouts) filled the stands of Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Florida, families of the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Buccaneers dressed up in their gear to support their loved ones' plight for the Lombardi trophy.
Kansas City's quarterback Patrick Mahomes may have left some fans upset after losing to Tom Brady and the Buccaneers on the momentous night, but luckily for Mahomes, he has other big plans coming soon.
"Not how we wanted it to end, but 15 played his heart out and I'm always and forever proud of him in everything he does! Now let's have a baby," Mahomes' fiancee Brittany Matthews tweeted.
Mahomes' fiancee was all but quiet on social media in anticipation of the big Super Bowl day. Matthews went after ESPN for their tweets of her fiance during the last quarter of the game, when it became clear Mahomes was not going home with the trophy. On Instagram, the fitness trainer took a different game day approach, posting pics of her growing baby bump.

The Instagram pics revealed Matthews in an all-white dress, sporting her baby bump, with the caption ""GAMETIMEEEEEE #superbowl."
The couple first announced their pregnancy in September 2020, revealing a few months later that their first child will be a baby girl. Mahomes retweeted a video Matthews shared of the couples gender reveal, adding the caption "#GirlDad."
"It's extremely exciting, just going through this process being in the season," the quarterback told the Kansas City radio show The Drive in December 2020 about watching his fiancee's pregnancy while working his way up to yet another Super Bowl. "Being in the bubble, I get to see everything. I get to see her go through the entire process of the pregnancy and everything like that. Doing it during the season, it makes it really cool."

In his interview with sports radio program The Drive, Patrick Mahomes shared his wish going into 2021 with his fiancee Brittany Matthews.
"Hopefully right after the Super Bowl, I'm able to bring a little girl into this world and get to become a dad in the off-season and get to see that process as well," said the quarterback — and it looks like he's getting his wish.
Mahomes first proposed to girlfriend Brittany Matthews in summer of 2020 after signing a 10-year, $503 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs (via the NFL). According to Page Six, the couple is residing in a $1.8 million home in Kansas City as they prepare to welcome their baby girl.
Mahomes and Matthews' relationship began way before the quarterback's professional football career and first Super Bowl ring in 2020. The football player and former professional soccer player first met in high school in Texas, and were each other's prom dates.
Upon announcing the engagement, Mahomes played on his big win in 2020, captioning a photo of the proposal on his Instagram Stories with "Ring SZN" (as per Page Six).
What comes next for Patrick Mahomes?
As Patrick Mahomes headed home after losing Super Bowl LV, the quarterback told reporters he looks at the loss as a learning experience to make him a better player.
"It's not the end of something," said Mahomes, according to ESPN. "It's going to be another chapter where we're going to have to continue to drive to make ourselves better so we're back in that game.”
The quarterback is settling back in Kansas City with fiancee Brittany Matthews to make himself a better quarterback, and soon-to-be father. The NFL player was first drafted to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2017, and now he and Matthews are looking forward to their permanent family life in the city.
"Setting down roots in Kansas City was huge for us," said Mahomes to the Bleacher Report. "I think the people are what we love the most about Kansas City. We're trying to be here for a long, long time." Mahomes and Matthews are currently loving life with their two dogs Steel and Silver, whom the couple dress up in Chiefs gear.
The couple's future daughter will probably have no choice but to become an athlete in Kansas City herself. Aside from her NFL father, her mother Brittany Matthews owns and operates her own fitness training company, called Brittany Lynne Fitness.
