Here's What Frances McDormand's Net Worth Actually Is

Frances McDormand may have Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, but how much money does she have inside of her bank account? When you think of a conventional Hollywood A-lister, the cropped-haired and perhaps even intimidating McDormand (she "rarely grants interviews," per The New York Times) may not be what you first picture. But her résumé says different.

Her first role (via IMDb) was in 1984's Coen Brothers' debut Blood Simple, where she met director Joel Coen during her first audition, marrying him that same year, per Good HousekeepingSince then, McDormand has starred in some of pop culture's most celebrated films. She played the protective mom in Almost Famous, the highly instinctive Marge Gunderson in the Coen Brothers' snowy classic Fargo, and the central role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. She won an Academy Award for the latter two. Yup, her embodiment of strong, driven women never gets old. And the industry knows it!

McDormand is generating Oscars and Golden Globes buzz yet again for her 2020 film NomadlandShe stars as Fern, who "after losing everything in the Great Recession," per IMDb, sets off working odd jobs across the American West. McDormand devoted herself to the film, living out of a van while shooting (per USA Today). If she wins Best Actress and the film Best Picture (she has a production credit, per Variety), she would make history as the first woman to win both.

Frances McDormand is worth more than you may think

So, what's Frances McDormand's net worth? Though her biggest roles may not be in superhero flicks, she still has a blockbuster bank account. Her husband Joel Coen's net worth is $20 million, and McDormand, per Celebrity Net Worth, is worth $30 million. But what else is there to know about this famous couple's life together?

According to The New York Times, in the 1990s, McDormand and Coen bought an apartment in Manhattan's Upper West Side and adopted son Pedro McDormand Coen from Paraguay. "I'm a mother now. I just made the decision that I'm going to be in one place more often, and that's New York," she said. The pad is a 12th floor co-op, per Berg Properties. "As a mother, you live on the edge of disaster," she later told the Belfast Telegraph. "I didn't give birth to my son, I met him at six months old, but from the minute I held him and smelled him, I knew it was my job to keep him alive." Aw!

The couple bought a home in the secluded coastal town of Bolinas, Calif. in 2005, per SfGate. That said (and this seems like the plot to one of their movies), Coen and McDormand have feuded with their next-door neighbors over their property line for years. "We hope that we can continue a friendly relationship as neighbors for years to come," McDormand and Coen wrote in an email, per SfGate, signing it, "Joel and Fran."
