Celebs Who Absolutely Fail At Everyday Life

When Paris Hilton famously stated on The Simple Life, "What's Walmart, do they sell, like, wall stuff?" several people wondered just how out of touch the socialite was with the rest of the world. While Hilton may not shop at Walmart, it's incredible just how many celebrities don't know how regular people live or how to do everyday things.

The rich and famous may not have to do their grocery shopping at a Walmart or walk their own dog, but it makes people wonder if these stars do anything at all besides flash their expensive cars or take their private planes to exotic locations for vacation. It seems that several celebrities are living in their own bubble, unaware of how to do simple tasks like turning on a computer, using a washing machine, and even how to order a pizza on the phone! It's clear the life of an A-list star is vastly different than the average person's, but these certain celebs make people wonder if they just absolutely fail at everyday life.

Bill Gates fails at guessing common grocery item prices

Bill Gates is currently the fourth richest person in the world with a net worth of $124 billion, according to Forbes.  When the founder of Microsoft was a guest on The Ellen Showhe took part in a quiz game called "Bill's Grocery Bills," where he had to guess the prices of everyday grocery store items. While the game may sound pretty easy to the average person, it was clear that the billionaire doesn't do his own grocery shopping. Host Ellen DeGeneres asked Gates the last time he was at a supermarket, and he replied, "A long time ago," and it showed by his outrageous guesses on common items like laundry detergent and frozen food.

The mogul guessed that a package of Tide Pods cost a mere four dollars, when in fact, they cost around 20 dollars. He also gave an outrageous price for a bag of frozen Totino's Pizza Rolls when he priced them at 22 dollars, but with the help of the audience, got it down to eight dollars. However, Gates did get the price of dental floss correct at four dollars after admitting that he "absolutely" flosses. Can you blame a billionaire for not knowing the prices of these everyday items?

Gwyneth Paltrow struggles to find a balance between work and raising her kids

In 2014, actor Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay's Chris Martin filed for divorce after 10 years of marriage, and during the same year, Paltrow admitted that it was necessary for her to take a break from acting to focus on raising her children. The star opened up to E! and shared that it was difficult to have a career and take care of her two growing children. While this is certainly a luxury for Paltrow, most moms cannot just "take a break" from their career and she faced criticism when she suggested that moms who work a 9 to 5 job have it easier.

Paltrow shared with E!, "I think it's different when you have an office job, because it's routine and, you know, you can do all the stuff in the morning and then you come home in the evening. When you're shooting a movie, they're like, 'We need you to go to Wisconsin for two weeks,' and then you work 14 hours a day and that part of it is very difficult. I think to have a regular job and be a mom is not as, of course there are challenges, but it's not like being on set.'"

The actor may have had trouble striking a work-life balance when it came to raising her kids, but Paltrow had to ultimately write a since-edited journal post on Goop's website, "[standing] her ground" and saying her words were taken "out-of-context" (via The Atlantic).

Kylie Jenner discovered the breakfast pairing of milk and cereal

Reality star Kylie Jenner may have been booted from Forbes' billionaire list (her sister Kim Kardashian West is officially a billionaire as of 2021), but she still has a net worth of $700 million (via Forbes) and lives a life that most people only dream about. From her $36.5 million home in Los Angeles (via TMZ) to her insane car collection, which includes a $3 million Bugatti Chiron (via PageSix), to the several luxurious vacations she can easily fly to on her private jet, Jenner lives an insanely lavish lifestyle.

So, when Jenner tweeted in 2018, "last night I had cereal with milk for the first time. life changing," it got many people wondering, including @ladidai, "what do rich people eat for breakfast then?" The tweet received thousands of responses, even one from actor Seth Rogan, who jokingly replied, "Wait till you try peanut butter and jam." The number of comments Jenner received prompted the star to share, "I always liked cereal dry I never bothered to put milk," adding that she doesn't drink or use milk. Her comments perplexed a ton of people, but it seems that the rich are too busy to try the simplest of breakfast foods.

Bette Midler figures out how to use her kitchen appliances

The coronavirus pandemic forced people to stay indoors and get creative, whether it was making banana bread, doing at-home workouts, or even hosting their wedding on Zoom. The pandemic also had several celebrities learning a thing or two as well, with Bette Midler admitting in 2020 that she was getting acquainted with her household appliances, because, well, when do movie stars ever cook or wash their own clothes?

In March 2020, the Hocus Pocus actor tweeted, "I never knew my appliances as well as I'm starting to know them. So grateful to #Kenmore and #Maytag. This is no joke. I salute housekeepers around the globe, doing your best to keep your families well, safe and alive." Her tweet may have come from a good place, but several people on Twitter felt that the star was out of touch with the real world (via Fox News). Some people even felt that her comment of "housekeepers" was demeaning, with one Twitter user sharing, "Do you salute those of us "regular folks" who do our best to keep our families well, safe, and alive without housekeepers to do everything for us?"

However, there were a few fans of Midler who felt in tune with her comments amid the pandemic, as one tweet read, "I appreciate my appliances more than I did too. The things that we take for granted until we realize their worth."

Britney Spears takes math classes to help her sons with homework

Britney Spears was only 16-years-old when she released her 1999 pop hit "...Baby One More Time." The songstress became an instant star overnight and would go on to sell millions of records, but unfortunately, had to drop out of high school because of her career. While she eventually finished up her last few years of high school via distance learning from the University of Nebraska High School (via The Daily Nebraskan), when Spears became a mother to two boys, she knew she needed even more help, especially when it came to their math homework.

According to People, the singer, who is a mom to Sean Preston and Jayden James, who she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline, admitted to taking math classes in 2014 to keep up with her children's homework. "They go to a really hard school, and this week we had three hours of homework [a night]," Spears shared, adding, "Some of it is hard for me. Next year when [Preston's] in fifth grade, he's going to be doing pre-algebra, and I'm taking classes so I know how to do it!"

And, just like any parent, Spears also shared that she rewarded her children for completing their homework. "Homework is a priority, and we have a reward system that helps motivate them. If they get so many A's, they get one toy a month."

Robert Pattinson's lazy hygiene habits cause a stir on set

Celebrities may constantly be busy working on their latest movie or project, but no star should ever be too busy to take a shower. At the height of his career, when Robert Pattinson famously starred as Edward Cullen in Twilight, the actor confessed to Extra that he "didn't see a point in washing your hair," after admitting to not washing his hair for six weeks. He went on to share his messy habits, adding, "It's like, I don't clean my apartment 'cause I don't care ... I have my apartment for sleeping in and my hair for just, you know, hanging out on my head. I don't care if it's clean or not."

MTV reported that while on set for his film New Moon, a source revealed that Pattinson had a funky odor to him. "He stinks. I mean, it's awful. He never showers, and it drives people on the set crazy." As his career blossomed, Pattinson may have figured that it was time he did something about his personal hygiene after confessing to The Wall Street Journal that not only does he take showers, he's even learned a thing or two about the importance of moisturizing. "I was a brush-your-teeth-and-have-a-shower king of guy. I can't tell if it's because of my association with Dior or because I'm older, but I've started moisturizing," the actor said, adding, "It's been a quite profound change in my life."

Cher doesn't know how to order a pizza

Musical icon Cher may never have to cook a meal in her life, but when it came down to allegedly ordering a pizza on the phone for her best pal comedian Kathy Griffin, the songstress had no idea what to do. In one of her stand-up acts, Griffin recalled a time when she went over to Cher's home and asked to order a pizza. Cher hilariously replied with, "How do you order a pizza, I'm Cher, I don't know how to order a f***** pizza." After calling up her personal assistant, Griffin successfully had a pizza delivered to Cher's Malibu home. Griffin also shared that Cher unashamedly said, "How does pizza happen?" Before ending her stand-up with a roaring applause from fans.

While it doesn't sound too bizarre that a musical legend like Cher doesn't know how to order a pizza to her home, what's more shocking is that she didn't even know the way a pizza was made! Oh, the life of the rich and famous!

Angelina Jolie is not a fan of the internet

In 2008, actor Angelina Jolie confessed that she doesn't do well with computers, "As Brad [Pitt] knows, I don't really know how to turn on a computer," while accepting her award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (via Metro). Her troubles with computers may also be a reason why she and her husband at the time were also not Amazon people. As she shared in 2011 with USA Today, "Brad and I were on Amazon.com for the first time a week ago. But we got lost. After an hour, we just shut it off. My brain is too scattered and the wires go in different directions. I'll stick to catalogs."

Is it also bizarre that the actors have never checked out Amazon until 2011? With her many technological difficulties, Jolie, who is a mom to six children, also made sure that they were safe while browsing the web after she hired a cybersecurity team in 2014 to monitor what her children see on the internet and social media. Jolie called the world wide web a "scary new world" while stating that for her and Pitt, it was "so beyond what we understand. We wouldn't even know what to look for," according to People. Now that most of her children are in their teens, maybe it's time the actor learns a thing or two about TikTok.

Tyra Banks learns to cook for her son

Not everyone's a master chef in the kitchen, with celebrities like Tyra Banks proudly admitting that once her son York was born in 2016, she had to take matters into her own hands to improve on her cooking skills by taking a few classes. The model candidly shared in an Instagram post, "I have never been one to be very excited about cooking. I put all of my energy into my work and to succeeding, so instead of cooking, I eat at restaurants all the time, order in, or defrost frozen food in my microwave."

She continued, "That all changed when my son was born. I do not want him to grow up thinking that cooking is what happens only in fancy restaurants or fast food restaurants ... I want to be his chef. I want him to go to college and miss MOMMY'S masterpieces ... So, I did something about it. I enrolled in an intensive Boot Camp at @theculinaryinstituteofamerica in St. Helena and I have to say, it changed my life." Honestly, who can knock a celeb for putting their hectic schedules aside to learn to cook for their child?
