The Most Devastating Claims Aaron Carter Has Made About His Family

This article contains triggers for substance use, addiction, sexual assault, and domestic abuse.

Aaron Carter became a household name (and a millionaire) in his early teenage years thanks to the release of his self-titled debut album in 1997 and his follow-up record, 2000's "Aaron's Party (Come Get It)," which featured his smash hit single, "I Want Candy." As the young pop star told Oprah Winfrey's "Where Are They Now," he "made over $200 million in [his] career before [he] even turned 18 years old." Then, he lost all of his money.

Through the years, Nick Carter's younger brother has faced his share of battles, from substance abuse to racking up more than $3.5 million in debt, to making headlines for all the wrong reasons. In recent years, Aaron's been in the press for everything from cheating on Hilary Duff to feuding with YouTuber Jake Paul, making people worried about his baby, and putting his tense relationship with Nick on full display.

But although he's been raising eyebrows for years, perhaps most heartbreaking of all is his volatile family dynamic and the countless devastating claims he and his siblings have made about one another. Here are the biggest allegations Aaron has hurled at his family.

Aaron Carter said he went through rehab totally alone

In September 2019, during an appearance on "The Doctors," Aaron Carter spoke openly about his battle with addiction while also revealing he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Carter shared that his drug use "started when [he] was about 16" and that his introduction to it came from his late sister, Leslie, who died from a prescription drug overdose in 2012.

"I was huffing because I was really f****** stupid, and sad," he admitted before calling out his family for allegedly not supporting him on his journey to sobriety. "After going to rehab [in 2017], Nick didn't come, my mom didn't come, nobody came," he told "The Doctors." Zeroing in on his brother, he continued, "I get a tweet, a public tweet from my brother saying if you need any help with rehab, I'm here. You live in Las Vegas, you're three hours away ... get here!" he slammed. "You need to make amends to me, you need to apologize to me," he continued. "I haven't even met my nephew."

Aaron then took to Twitter to continue his rant and accuse Nick of profiting off his family's hardships. Citing Nick's 2013 book, "Facing the Music And Living To Talk About It," Aaron tweeted (via TooFab) that the only reason he spoke openly on "The Doctors" was because "Nick started it by using his [family's] shortcomings for profit when he wrote a book."

Aaron Carter accused his brother of bullying him

Following his September 2019 appearance on "The Doctors," Aaron Carter was criticized by Nick Carter's fans who thought TV wasn't the right outlet for Aaron to voice his claims. The "Dancing With the Stars" Alum quickly fired back on Twitter, calling Backstreet Boys fans cyberbullies — "They are notorious for it," he wrote (via TooFab) — and alleging Nick was a real-life bully.

As evidence, Aaron shared a video clip from E!'s 2006 reality show "House of Carters" in which his brother can be seen yelling and pushing him. In the footage, Aaron repeats "Don't spit in my face!" as Nick screams "You're gonna respect me!" Accompanying the video was a scathing caption in which Aaron demanded, "LEAVE ME ALONE," adding, "Nick, you bullied me my whole life. And tortured me as a child. And everyone knows it." He also shared another clip showing Nick throwing a pie in his face at the Kids' Choice Awards when he was just 13 and, allegedly, causing serious injury. "Look at my brother's face before he broke my nose," Aaron wrote, adding, "Oh, he broke my nose several times. #MySideToo and it's been in front of all of you Backstreet Boy fans and you've allowed it."

The tweet reportedly sparked more backlash from BSB fans as Aaron tweeted that "my brother is encouraging his fans to keep calling the police everywhere I go on my tour." He pleaded, "Stop encouraging [your] fans to bully me and others."

Aaron Carter accused Nick of ignoring their sister Leslie before she died

In 2012, Leslie Carter died from a prescription drug overdose at the age of 25, but her tragic death didn't bring her brothers, Aaron and Nick Carter, together. Rather, it drove them apart as Nick skipped her funeral. According to Today, Nick instead chose to perform a solo concert that day, which took place seven hours away from the funeral service. While his decision raised eyebrows, the BSB alum justified it to TMZ, saying he "wanted to be at my sister's funeral, but my family has always had a complicated dynamic." He later told Dr. Phil in 2013 that he didn't attend because he "started to get blamed by the rest of the family [...] for the death."

Despite Nick's various explanations, Aaron decided to rehash the drama during their escalating feud in 2019, tweeting (via ET) about how his older brother "didn't even show up at our sister's FUNERAL because he had a concert at a bar two hours away and said he didn't want to be a part of family drama when we were burying our sister Leslie." As if proving Nick's claims, he then blamed him for their sister's death. "He paid for my first rehab. At Betty Ford center [...] but shut the door in his own sister's face ... when she begged HIM for rehab and she overdosed a month later," he tweeted.

Aaron Carter thinks his family is teaming up against him

The brotherly drama escalated in September 2019 when Aaron Carter took to Instagram Live, per Us Weekly, to show off an assault weapon and proclaim, "Don't imprison me and count on me to not battle again and kill everyone." Nick Carter took it as a personal threat and tweeted, "I am truly now afraid for my family's safety," and that "after careful consideration, my sister Angel and I regret that we were required to seek a restraining order against our brother Aaron today." Explaining his reasoning, he wrote that "in light of Aaron's ... recent confession that he harbors thoughts and intentions of killing my pregnant wife and unborn child, we were left with no choice."

Aaron responded by tweeting that he and Nick were "done for life," and claiming his decision was "obviously a chess game of some sort." He added, "All I ask is for my family to leave me alone." He also accused his ex, Lina, of "teaming up with my sister Angel and my brother, trying to daily get me put into a mental institution." That December, he tweeted that his "family just needs to leave me alone and stop trying to get me to violate my restraining orders." Jump to March 2020 when he claimed that his family was "making up horrendous lies [...] knowing if I respond, I go to jail, trying to set me up."

Aaron Carter accused his twin sister of lying 'over and over' again

After Nick Carter and Angel Conrad — Aaron Carter's twin sister – filed their restraining order, the "I Want Candy" singer appeared in a Los Angeles court where he witnessed a judge grant Angel's request for a year-long order. Angel claimed that her brother had told her "I have people that would come and harm you," per TMZ, and in light of her claims, the judge ordered Aaron to surrender his firearms. At that moment, per TMZ, the pop star began to yell and proclaim he could simply buy more weapons.

Following the hearing, Aaron took to his Instagram Story, per Daily Mail, to tell followers, "I am devastated by what happened in court today," adding that he would "abide by the judge's order" but that he was "saddened by my family and what they have done to me. Your lies have broken my heart," he concluded. He also voiced his anger on Twitter, writing, "What an awesome twin sister. Testifying against her brother [when] I've done so much for Angel," he began. "When we turned 18 and [I] paid her car off and her apartment in Orlando and let her move into palazzo with me." What's more, he tried to expose her as an alleged thief, tagging her husband, Corey Conrad, and tweeting, "How will your corporate bosses [and] employees feel knowing [your] wife was arrested for shoplifting? AND has the Carter curse of drug use?"

Aaron Carter has accused Nick Carter of multiple transgressions

Over the years, Nick Carter has been accused of sexual assault by a number of women, including Melissa Schuman, a member of girl group Dream. It was 2018 when she shared her #MeToo story, claiming she fell victim to Nick when she was 18 and telling The Daily Beast that his fans "made it their life's mission to destroy me." That sentiment echoed Aaron's claims that Nick's fans are cyberbullies and, in September 2019, he brought Schuman (along with several other women) into his brotherly feud. Tagging the songstress, as well as Ashley Repp, Kaya Jones, and Willa Ford, he tweeted, "Ladies speak up please." Comparing his brother to Jeffrey Epstein, he proclaimed, "I'm standing by all these victims. Please. Aphrodite Jones, the victims all want to talk now. Maybe do [an] R.Kelly type documentary."

When Nick's supporters tried to question the truthfulness of Aaron's claims, he fired back, "The cases were dismissed. Have you ever heard of corrupt systems or MONEY AND ABUSE OF POWER AND CELEBRITY STATUS TO SILENCE YOUR ACCUSERS?" he asked while also hurling serious allegations at his brother. Claiming that Nick once raped an elderly woman named Mildred, he tweeted (via PopCulture), Nick "told me in confidence in his pickup truck she was 91 years old and my brother told me he covered her mouth so no one could hear her scream. Put me on a polygraph machine please," he implored.

Aaron Carter claimed Nick Carter was abusive towards Paris Hilton

Back in August 2004, Nick Carter made headlines for all the wrong reasons when his ex, Paris Hilton, was spotted with multiple bruises on her body just a week after their breakup. Speaking with People at the time, he said, "I'll tell you one thing: I didn't touch her. I'm not that kind of guy. I would never do that." However, a source told New York Post that Hilton was "scared to death" of Nick due to his "major anger-management issues" and claimed that it wasn't the first time they had seen Hilton bruised.

Jump to 2019 and Aaron Carter rehashed those stories following Nick's decision to seek a restraining order against him. "I have never been accused of rape mutiple times. I wasn't accused of beating of @parishilton. Who's VIOLENT?" he tweeted. He also alleged that Hilton witnessed Nick being violent towards him, writing, "You were there and pulled him off of me when he attacked me that morning!!! And tried to kill me. Help me @ParisHilton."

He added that he "witnessed the abuse to Paris from my brother" and concluded, "Restraining order says stay 100 feet away. It's been thousands of miles for years. Using the court system to shake me down. Worked on some girls but won't work on me." Paris actually liked one of the tweets sent out by Aaron, per Perez Hilton.

Aaron Carter accused his late sister Leslie of abusing him

Aaron Carter hasn't just gone after siblings Nick Carter and Angel Conrad, he also flung serious accusations against his late sister, Leslie Carter, when he took to Twitter in September 2019 (via Page Six) to accuse her of abuse. "My sister Leslie suffered from bipolar and took lithium to treat it," he began, noting that "when she was off of it she did things that she never meant to do. I truly believe that." After that came the shocking claim that Leslie "raped me from the age of 10 to 13 years old when she wasn't on her medications." He also claimed that Nick abused him "my whole life" and that he was also sexually abused "by my first two back up dancers when I was eight years old."

Following the bombshell allegations, Aaron told his followers that he "spent the last 15 years of my life going to therapy for abuse [and] rape" and that following "many different treatments" he found one that worked. As for why he chose to speak up, he explained it was about catharsis. "I feel cleansed all my truth is out. I just need to focus now on my music, my career and supporting all victims of abuse and rape," he explained before finishing by encouraging victims to tell their truth. "I hope you also feel the strength to tell your story like I did," he wrote. "Find that strength. You will feel free!"

Aaron Carter has had a rocky relationship with his mom

When Aaron Carter was just 16, he sought legal emancipation from his mom, Jane Carter, who was his manager at the time. According to CNN, Aaron alleged that she took $100,000 from his bank account without his knowledge and said, "I feel betrayed by my own mother." Jane denied the "false allegations designed to hurt me, my family, and my son's career" and Aaron eventually dropped the request in 2004. However, he regretted the choice. In 2019, the pair appeared on "Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars Family Edition" and when Aaron was asked to share a message with his younger self, he proclaimed, "I would tell you that you should've did it, you should have gotten emancipated." During the segment he also recounted an incident from his childhood in which he claimed he was "sick for five days" but his mom was "in the main house, partying with her boyfriend" and didn't even know.

In the end, mother and son appeared to reconcile, and in 2019, Aaron pushed Jane to seek treatment for alcohol addiction on "The Doctors." She agreed, but soon relapsed and it fueled another feud. Aaron blamed his family, saying Nick "clearly gave up on" her. "Thanks to my family and what they have been doing to my mother attempting to stress her out she has fallen OFF the wagon and relapsed immediately when she got home," he wrote, slamming, "It's sickening what my family is doing. OPEN YOUR EYES."

Has Aaron Carter cut ties with his entire family?

Aaron Carter's relationship with his mother and siblings has been volatile, to say the least, and in 2019, he proclaimed he'd be cutting ties with all of them. "I'm TELLING YOU I do not want any communication with my family for LIFE!" he unleashed on Twitter that September. "They need to leave me alone. Angel, Nick and his spouse and in-laws," he slammed after they sought a restraining order against him. And things sure didn't get better with time as Aaron continued his rampage the following month, writing, "I never wanted to get to that point where I wouldn't have my 'family' in my life anymore, but now that time has come. I have to completely sever [and] distance myself from them to PROTECT myself from them," he reasoned, adding, "They're killing me inside with stress and I will never be in their life."

Aaron shared more of that same sentiment in November, tweeting that he "asked my family to respect my decision of never seeing them again" and in December, he wrote he was celebrating Christmas with his "nana" and no one else. "Merry Christmas Eve everyone. To all the ones who think they don't have family like me (which I don't), you do have family," he tweeted, adding, "I have you and you have me always."
