How Many Grandchildren Does Prince Charles Have?

If there's one thing to know about Prince Charles, it's that he loves being a grandpa to his little princes and princesses. In June, shortly after the birth of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, the Prince of Wales referred to the event as "such happy news."

"The development of technology like electric vehicles, or green hydrogen for that matter for heavy transport, is vital for maintaining the health of our world for future generations, something I am only too aware of today, having recently become a grandfather [again]," he said when he spoke about sustainability at BMW's factory in June, via Page Six. "Such happy news really does remind one of the necessity of continued innovation in this area — especially around sustainable battery technology — in view of the legacy we bequeath to our grandchildren."

Sources close to the royal family also told People in 2015 that when the little ones are around, Prince Charles "comes alive." "Charles and Camilla absolutely adore being grandparents and are enthralled with Charlotte and George," the source dished. "Charles is a warm and caring guy, but he comes even more alive around little George. He loves spending time with him."

With rumors of Prince Harry and Meghan planning on having a third child, Prince Charles may welcome more grandchildren soon. But how many does he have so far?

Prince Charles has more grandchildren than you think

Prince Charles has five biological grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. Many are already aware that Prince Charles has five biological grandchildren from his two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. There's Prince George, Prince Charlotte, and Prince Louis from Prince William and Kate Middleton, and then Archie and Lilibet from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

But most people don't know is that he has five other grandchildren from his marriage with Camilla Parker Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall. See, Camila had two children with her ex-husband, Andrew Parker Bowles. Per PureWow, her daughter Laura has three children: Eliza, Louis, and Gus, while her son Tom has two children: Lola and Freddy.

Prince Charles is a granddad and step-granddad to a total of 10 children. Lola is the eldest, having been born in 2011, while Lilibet, who happens to be named after Prince Charles' mother and ex-wife, is the youngest.

Prince Charles is "proud and happy to be a grandfather"

Prince Charles isn't one to talk about grandparenthood often, but it looks like he loves being a grandpa. When Prince George was born, he shared how incredibly proud and happy he was. "Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone's life," he said in a press release, per Insider. "I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future."

The Prince of Wales also underscores the importance of bonding with little ones. He once said, via The Telegraph: "It's a different part of your life. The great thing is to encourage them. Show them things to take their interest ... It is very important to create a bond when they are very young."

To ensure that his grandchildren have a bright future, Prince Charles is working hard on his sustainability projects. He implores everyone to start taking climate change seriously to give kids a fighting chance. "Sustainability is a choice. If we make it a part of our core values it will define our purpose, determine our choices and drive our actions," he said at the launch of his Terra Carta project. "It is this which will determine whether or not our children and grandchildren look back on a series of broken promises or, instead, reflect on a tipping point at which the world shifted to a more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous trajectory."
