Katy Perry Makes Twitter History With 100 Million Followers

Congrats, Katy Perry!

The "Chained to the Rhythm" singer just hit 100 million followers on Twitter—earning herself a place in Twitter history. Twitter celebrated the major milestone with a video of some of her tweets over the years.

Perry thanked the social media platform with her own tweet, writing, "Thank you, @Twitter, for always giving me an opportunity to have a voice!"

According to Page Six, Perry first joined the social media platform in February 2009, hitting 50 million followers just three years later.

Perry might want to watch her back if she wants to hang onto the Twitter crown. A few other celebrities aren't too far behind her in follower count. Justin Bieber has the second most followed Twitter account with 96.7 million followers. Former President Barack Obama boasts 90.8 million followers, Perry's pop star rival Taylor Swift has secured 85.1 million followers, and Rihanna comes in fifth with 74.1 million followers.

Perry's certainly been busy in recent weeks, promoting her new album, Witness, and opening up about past feuds. With her upcoming American Idol judging gig fast approaching—not to mention that sweet $25 million paycheck—we expect we'll be hearing a whole lot more from the often outspoken artist in the next year. At least we know where we can find her.
