The Real Reason Alex Rodriguez And Anne Wojcicki Split

Alex Rodriguez has had many leading ladies in his life, including Kate Hudson and Cameron Diaz. While Jennifer Lopez was one of Rodriguez's most highly publicized relationships in the press, resulting in an engagement and breaking up, he also made headlines during his relationship with Anne Wojcicki. In case you're not familiar with the name, Wojcicki is the CEO and founder of 23andMe, and many were surprised to find out that she and Rodriguez had struck up a romance. Us Weekly reports that the couple first linked up in March 2016.

The pair made a few public appearances together, but the romance was short-winded, lasting a little under a year. According to Page Six, the couple called it quits in 2017, parting ways quietly and not making it a big ordeal in the press. A source close to the pair shared that, "They were an unusual couple, from very different backgrounds, but they are both smart business people, and had quite a few things in common, including a fascination with the tech world." Adding, "perhaps, in the end, they were a little too different." According to the insider, Rodriguez and Wojcicki knew a lot people in the same friends circle, meaning they would likely run into each other post-split.

Shortly after the breakup, Wojcicki's mother had strong words about why her daughter and the former New York Yankees slugger pulled the plug on their relationship, and she didn't have very many nice things to say.

Anne Wojcicki's mom questioned A-Rod's intelligence

So, what's the real reason behind the split between Alex Rodriguez and Anne Wojcicki? Anne's mother, Esther Wojcicki, didn't hold much back regarding her daughter's romance with the MLB star in an interview with The New York Times. "I liked A-Rod; he was a very nice man. He seemed to be genuinely in love with Anne. But I right away figured out this was a mismatch," she shared. "He had no academic background. We couldn't have an intellectual conversation about anything." Ouch.

And Esther didn't stop there, either. She also shared that Rodriguez's main interest was baseball, which wasn't really a focus in their family. "He could park himself in front of a TV and watch baseball for 10 hours a day," she added. "He wasn't even sure he wanted to go on the yacht with Anne because the TV might not be working." Esther also noted that it was hard to go anywhere with Rodriguez because everyone wanted to take a selfie with him.

As for Anne? She seemed to have fonder memories. "Alex is a really sweet guy. He's a smart guy. He's a good person," she gushed. "Alex lives in this world of cash-flow businesses, and Silicon Valley lives in this world of the potential of the future. So it was actually kind of a really fun conversation." At least it seems like they left off on good terms?

Inside Alex Rodriguez's romance after Anne Wojcicki

As we mentioned before, Alex Rodriguez's love life has been a hot topic in the press. He's dated some of the most famous women in Hollywood, and following his split from Wojcicki, he struck up one of his most notable relationships to date with Jennifer Lopez. According to Elle, the pair began dating in 2017, and wherever they went, the press would follow.

The couple dated for a few years before Rodriguez asked Lopez to be his wife. The baseball star posted a sweet photo of himself on one knee, slipping a ring on Lopez's finger. "Locking it down," he wrote in the caption. As we all know, the pair ended up calling it quits before they had the white wedding that we all dreamed about. In April 2021, the couple announced publicly that they would be going their separate ways. "We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects," they shared in a statement on "The Today Show." "We wish the best for each other, and one another's children," they shared, thanking everyone who had reached out to them.

Lopez went on to link back up with a former flame in Ben Affleck, while Rodriguez has apparently been going after "The Real Housewives of New York City" alum, Kelly Bensimon, per Page Six. The Hollywood dating mill ... nothing like it!
