Diddy Once Confused This Huge Celebrity For A Valet

Sean "Diddy" Combs is one of the music industry's biggest fixtures. Diddy is on track to become a billionaire with a net worth of upwards of $900 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. For all his success, the hip-hop mogul has become somewhat notorious for being combative.

The hitmaker was arrested in 2015 for allegedly attacking Sal Alosi, a UCLA football coach, with a kettlebell, according to Page Six. The dispute reportedly escalated as Diddy argued with the coach over his son. Diddy spoke out about defending his son, per Entertainment Tonight. "When you have a child that plays sports, you're actually giving your child up to those coaches," Diddy said. "You're going to have to be able to take a lot ... But I think there's a fine line, too, and I think that there's times when you have to just communicate and find out what's going on and be by your children's side." The rap star ultimately called the exchange a "miscommunication."

It seems Diddy has been on the other side of miscommunications before, as he once confused one huge celebrity for his valet driver.

Diddy mistook Selena Gomez for a valet

Diddy reportedly didn't recognize pop sensation Selena Gomez during a night on the town. Gomez spoke about the awkward encounter in an interview with GQ, in which she discussed the headaches that come along with being a Hollywood star. "It's either of two extremes," she said. "Either you're going to succumb to [Hollywood] and be surrounded by all the noise ... or you're going to be so far off of it because you don't trust anyone or think any of it's genuine. That's the kind of girl I am." One example of Hollywood "noise" she gave was when Diddy handed her his valet ticket, thinking she was the valet lady. "I don't care — I actually laughed hysterically when it happened," she said of the encounter. "But I get it. I know what all of it is."

Diddy has been known to disrespect his music industry peers in the past. Combs pleaded guilty to second-degree harassment in 1999 after he allegedly assaulted record executive Steve Stoute over a music video dispute, according to The Daily Beast. "I let my emotions get the best of me and I just made a mistake," Diddy told MTV of the attack.

Diddy has apologized ... but not to Selena Gomez

While Diddy hasn't commented on the Selena Gomez valet faux pas, it seems the music icon has recognized his past tendencies to be a jerk. "Sometimes I'm very, very harsh," Diddy opened up in a 2016 Instagram video, per Entertainment Tonight. "At the end of the day, I'm just trying to, you know, get better." Diddy further expressed his desire to become kinder. "I truly believe people can change and I want to be a shining example of changing for the better!!" he wrote in the video's caption.

Diddy's self-awareness seems to have brought about some change in his personal life. In fact, Diddy has now officially changed his name to Sean "Love" Combs, in support of a new music era in which he seeks to promote love and unity. "[The 'Love' era is about] my people taking time to feel like it's all right to love," he told Vanity Fair. "Take time to huddle up your tribe, take time to communicate and know your power. Take time to heal."
