The Real Reason Nicole Kidman And Lenny Kravitz Ended Their Relationship
When you think about Nicole Kidman's romantic life, you likely focus on her current marriage with her husband Keith Urban. You might also remember back to the days when Kidman was with and then divorced Tom Cruise. However, you might not have as many memories of her time with Lenny Kravitz. That's right, while their relationship has mostly faded into the fog of the entertainment industry's past, the two superstars were once an item. In fact, they were actually engaged for a time.
Kravitz — who was also previously in a high-profile relationship with Lisa Bonet — and Kidman were first introduced by a friend and she ended up renting his apartment in 2003, according to People. In time, they began dating and, as a result, were one of the hippest and seemingly most secretive pairs in Hollywood. Indeed, while they kept the details of their time together relatively private, her spokesperson was willing to tell People, "They're very close. He's very important to her." However, someone who spotted them being "flirtatious" at Naomi Watts' birthday party was able to add a little more, saying, "They were gazing at each other all night long. She was sitting on his lap, massaging his leg. They were eating off each other's plates."
Although these two clearly cared for each other, they didn't end up tying the knot and eventually broke up. While that surely surprised and disappointed fans who were in-the-know, we've tracked down the real reason that Kidman and Kravitz ended their engagement.
Nicole Kidman and Lenny Kravitz 'weren't ready' to get married
Nicole Kidman and Lenny Kravitz were so secretive about their relationship that fans were unaware of many details regarding their time together. For instance, the public was completely unaware that these two stars had been engaged, according to InStyle. That's why the reason for their breakup also wasn't common knowledge. Well, while the two had never (and, in a way, still haven't) directly addressed their split, Kidman did open up to Vanity Fair in 2007 about how she "got engaged to somebody." Although she didn't use Kravitz's name, she did reveal why the engagement ended, saying, "It just wasn't right. I wasn't ready. We weren't ready."
Kidman also admitted that she doesn't take relationships lightly, telling Vanity Fair, "I get engaged and I get married — that's my thing. I don't want to date. I'm interested in a very, very deep connection." And when it comes to taking (or not taking) certain chances with her heart, she explained, "Someone I read recently said, 'Live a bourgeoisie life and do the rest in your art.' I'll take the risks, but in my art."
Of course, just because Kidman and Kravitz ended their engagement, that doesn't mean that there are any bad feelings lingering between them. In fact, these two are still on good terms and have had some pretty sweet things to say about each other.
Things are still friendly between Nicole Kidman and Lenny Kravitz
Nicole Kidman's past relationship with Lenny Kravitz may not be common knowledge, however, many people are aware of Kidman's connection with his daughter, Zoë Kravitz. That's because the two appeared together in "Big Little Lies."
Kidman talked about Zoë in 2017, and in turn, the man who had been her fiance, telling The Edit (via Entertainment Weekly), "Well, I knew Zoë because I was engaged to her father. It's all in the family!" She also revealed how she feels about her ex, saying, "I love Lenny; he's a great guy." On top of that, things tend to seem pretty sweet between them when they meet up at industry events, even using one run-in at the CMT Awards in 2013 to pose together with Kidman's hubby, Keith Urban, per PopSugar.
As for Zoë, she told The Edit (via EW), "I hadn't seen [Nicole] in a long time before 'Big Little Lies,' but there was a point where we were all kind of living together." Noting that she was around 13 years old at the time, she added, "She would take me to see movies; she was so nice to me." Lenny was also willing to talk about the two women working together, telling Mr. Porter, "Nicole is amazing ... Zoë and she hadn't spent time together since she was younger, since Nicole and I were together, so that was great." It's always nice when exes can stay friends!
