Celeb Couples Who Called It Quits In 2017

Avengers actress Scarlett Johansson filed for divorce from her French journalist husband, Romain Dauriac, in January. According to Us Weekly, Johansson initiated their separation. A source told the magazine that she "felt like they didn't have much in common as far as lifestyle." Dauriac's lawyer later told People that his client was "shocked" by Johansson's decision to divorce.

The two had started dating in 2012 and had secretly married in October 2014. They share one child together, daughter Rose Dorothy.

Unfortunately, fans of Johansson shouldn't hold their breath waiting for more details about the actress' personal life. She's made it clear that she won't be answering any questions about her divorce.

"As a devoted mother and private person and with complete awareness that my daughter will one day be old enough to read the news about herself, I would only like to say that I will never, ever be commenting on the dissolution of my marriage," she said in a statement obtained by Us Weekly.

After seven years of marriage, Girls actress Jemima Kirke and her husband, Michael Mosberg, decided to separate, reported People. Kirke, who shares daughter Rafaella Israel and son Memphis with Mosberg, attributed the breakup to her acting career.

"So much of my life has been about reaction, just following the flow rather than making a strong choice. In acting you are always asking yourself why you do things, why you make the choices you make," she told ES Magazine (via Us Weekly). "Everything means something. And so then you start looking at your own life in that way. I've learnt a lot more about myself and started to figure out what I really want." 

Guess her marriage to Mosberg just wasn't part of her personal script.

The Academy Award-winning actress split from her longtime partner, record producer Richard Perry, after eight years together. Perry confirmed the breakup to E! News, stating that the pair's "romantic relationship is over."

He also noted that he and Fonda are "definitely extremely good friends" and still have "a great deal of love for each other."

As could be expected, the celeb couple also decided to sell their shared Los Angeles home (via Forbes), listing the five-bedroom mansion for an astounding $13 million.

One of Hollywood's most unexpected celeb couples called off their relationship in early February. E! News reported that, after dating for nine months, Gifted co-stars Chris Evans and Jenny Slate broke up, though, luckily, the split was reportedly amicable.

And it certainly seemed that way, given that both Evans and Slate have since discussed their split and neither had a single bad thing to say about the other—Evans has called Slate his "favorite human," while she's referred to him as a "lovely person." Wish all breakups could be that pleasant.

No one saw this relationship coming. Model Amber Rose and Dancing With the Stars pro Val Chmerkovskiy first reportedly hooked up in October 2016 but called it quits just five months later. In a since-deleted post on Instagram (via People), Rose addressed the breakup, revealing that the two had mutually decided to separate.

"[Val] and I broke up due to our own personal reasons but we still care about each other tremendously and we love each other's families even more," Rose wrote. "So please understand that we are all human and we have feelings too. Nobody got dumped and nothing we do over here is malicious it's just how life works sometimes."

The former Spice Girls member shocked fans when she announced her separation from husband Stephen Belafonte after nearly 10 years of marriage. USA Today reported that Mel B (full name Melanie Brown) filed for divorce in March 2017, listing the pair's date of separation as Dec. 28, 2016. Since then, Mel and Belafonte, who share a daughter together, have been engaged in a nasty legal battle, with Mel accusing Belafonte of being physically abusive and of having an affair with the family's nanny.

The controversial pairing of reality star Kylie Jenner and rapper Tyga came to an official end after the two reportedly called it quits in March. According to Hollywood Life, Jenner was the one to end things, as a source told them that Jenner was "growing into a woman, and needed to make some changes in her life." Not too long after, Tyga was reported to have moved out of Jenner's home (via Us Weekly).

A few months later, Jenner opened up about her split on an episode of her reality show Life of Kylie. "There was no crazy fight, we just decided...Well, I decided that I'm really young," she explained, "I don't want to look back in five years from now and feel like he took something from me when he's really not that type of person."

Despite their near 14-year relationship, the Powers actress and the NBA star decided to go their separate ways. And while their split was reportedly "amicable," rumors soon surfaced that Carmelo had cheated on La La. A source told Page Six, "Melo's tagline was, '[La La's] married, I'm not.' That's how he would justify it. His attitude is that all professional athletes do it, and many of them do."

But Carmelo's infidelity may have been the least of their problems, considering E! News' report that he'd gotten a woman pregnant—though these rumors have not been confirmed by La La or Carmelo.

However, things might not be over for this couple just yet. The pair, who share a son together, are reportedly in no rush to sign the divorce papers, TMZ noted. La La seemed to confirm this idea when she visited The Wendy Williams Show in June and stated, "You know, marriages are tough, and you know that. We all know that. It's filled with ups and downs. We are just going through a time right now."

In April, news broke that Janet Jackson and her billionaire husband of five years, Wissam Al Man, were divorcing—just three months after the birth of their son, Eissa (via the Daily Mail). Though their split was reportedly amicable, a source told E! News that the decision to break up was because the two disagreed about how they "wanted to raise their child."

However, another source said that Jackson started leaning toward a divorce after Al Man reportedly showed little concern for her mother, who was allegedly a victim of elder abuse (via E! News). "That's when Janet made her decision that there was no turning back," the insider explained. "She was worried about her mother—and Wissam showed little to no concern."

In late May, the Zoolander actors shocked fans when they announced their separation after 17 years of marriage. In a joint statement obtained by Entertainment Tonight, Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor said, "With tremendous love and respect for each other, and the 18 years we spent together as a couple, we have made the decision to separate."

The pair—who share two children, daughter Ella Olivia and son Quinlin Dempsey—continued, "Our priority will continue to be raising our children as devoted parents and the closest of friends. We kindly ask that the media respect our privacy at this time."

A source told People that Stiller's busy career may be, at least partially, to blame for their decision to split. Still, given that they endured Stiller's prostate cancer diagnosis together (he's currently cancer-free), you'd think they'd be able to weather just about anything so long as they had one another.

In May, Leonardo DiCaprio and his model girlfriend, Nina Agdal, called it quits after dating for over a year. Though the two appeared serious—with DiCaprio and Agdal trekking all over the globe together on luxurious vacations—the Inception star apparently just wasn't ready to make a serious commitment.

"Leo thought Nina was a super cool girl," a source told People. "It almost seemed different this time because he was way more affectionate and public with her than he normally is, but his friends knew it wouldn't last."

Though Bachelor star Ben Higgins gave his final rose to Lauren Bushnell, the two just weren't meant to be. In a joint statement made to People magazine, Higgins and Bushnell said, "It is with heavy hearts that we announce our decision to go our separate ways."

The pair, who'd previously revealed that they were in couples therapy, continued, "We feel fortunate for the time we had together, and will remain friends with much love and respect for one another. We wish nothing but the best for each other, and ask for your support and understanding at this time."

At least their time together will forever be memorialized on The Bachelor and Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After.

The Modern Family actress and her Shadowhunters beau broke up after two years of dating. Not much is known about their split, but it sounds like Sarah Hyland and Dominic Sherwood ended things on good terms. "They aren't dating anymore but they both have mutual respect for one another and remain friends," a source told People in August.

Pop-punk music fans cried after Paramore's Hayley Williams and New Found Glory's Chad Gilbert, who'd dated since 2008, announced their separation. In a since-deleted Instagram post in July (via People), the couple stated that "marriage is not for the faint of heart."

"The two of us have been together for the better part of 10 years. We've grown up together and we've been beside each other through a lot of goodness and a lot of challenges," they said. "We want to publicly state — plainly, and only this time — that we are splitting up. We also feel it's important to state that we are going to be okay and in fact, we remain close friends who are good in each other's eyes."

The two had married just over a year earlier in February 2016.

The Jersey Shore star and the Danity Kane singer separated in July after over a year of dating. A source told E! News at the time that Pauly D (full name Paul DelVecchio) called off the relationship, reportedly because Aubrey O'Day had been "pressuring him to get a ring." And, apparently, Pauly D just wasn't ready to commit, despite him previously saying that O'Day was "the one" for him.

But, considering that Pauly D and O'Day have broken up and gotten back together a few times in the past, there's still hope that these two Famously Single stars will reconcile and reignite their fiery romance.

Fans across the country realized that true love was dead after Chris Pratt and Anna Faris announced they'd be divorcing. In a post on Facebook in August, the two released a joint statement, revealing, "We tried hard for a long time, and we're really disappointed."

Pratt and Faris, who share son Jack together, had been married since 2009 and had appeared to be deeply in love, with each sharing adorable Instagrams of each other throughout the years. Unfortunately, it seems that Pratt's development into a bonafide movie star had caused some strain on their marriage.

Following her divorce from Johnny Depp, Justice League actress Amber Heard got together with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, making their relationship Instagram official in April. Unfortunately, the two wouldn't remain together for long, as they later split in early August.

"They had fun for a few months, but are both very busy with work now. It was getting hard to find time to see each other," a source told People. "Elon's is working day and night. This is his life and he loves it. He is in no position to be in a relationship right now and ended it."

However, not all seems lost for these two stars. Commenting on a post on Heard's Instagram account (via Page Six), Musk wrote that the two are "still friends, remain close and love one another," noting, "who knows what the future holds."

Ben Higgins and Laura Bushnell weren't the only two Bachelor stars to throw in the towel on their relationship. Nick Viall and fianceé Vanessa Grimaldi also called it quits and ended their engagement—five months after viewers watched his proposal on the season finale of The Bachelor.

"It's with a great amount of heartbreak for the both us as we have decided to end our engagement," the couple said in a joint statement to E! News. "We gave this relationship our all and we are saddened that we did not get the fairytale ending we hoped for. We will continue to be there for each other no matter what. This hasn't been an easy decision, however, as we part ways, we do so with lots of love and admiration for each other."

Fergie (real name Stacy Ann Ferguson) and Josh Duhamel broke fans' hearts when they announced their split after eight years of marriage. Though an exact date was not announced, the two revealed that they'd broken up sometime in 2017.

"With absolute love and respect we decided to separate as a couple earlier this year," the couple said in a statement (via E! News). "To give our family the best opportunity to adjust, we wanted to keep this a private matter before sharing it with the public. We are and will always be united in our support of each other and our family."

Longtime couple Laurence Fishburne and Gina Torres called it quits after 15 years of marriage. In September, Torres told Entertainment Tonight, "With heavy hearts, Laurence and I quietly separated and began the dissolution of our marriage in the early fall of last year."

"There are no bad guys here. Only a love story with a different ending than either one of us had expected," the former Firefly star continued. "Happily, however, our family remains intact and we will continue to raise our daughter together with love and joy and awe."

Sounds like Fishburne and Torres, while no longer romantically involved, are getting along just fine, if only for the sake of their daughter, Delilah.

The Hills star Audrina Patridge announced her divorce from husband Corey Bohan in late September after less than one year of marriage. Citing irreconcilable differences, Patridge, who shares a daughter with her now-ex, reportedly filed for divorce due to a domestic violence incident, TMZ reported. She also filed for a temporary restraining order against Bohan as well as a child abduction prevention order.

According to TMZ, Bohan, in one reported incident, pushed Patridge while she was holding their infant child and then threatened to kill himself if she left him. Since Bohan had reportedly displayed similar behavior in the past, Patridge "realized things had to change before it got even worse, and she had to get her and her daughter out of the situation," according to a source for People.

Heidi Klum wasn't the only model to break up with her S.O. this year. In early October, Page Six reported that Tyra Banks split from photographer boyfriend Erik Asla. The two had been together for five years and share one child, son York, who was born in January 2016. The separation was apparently "drama-free," and the two will reportedly continue to work together professionally.

Singer Tamar Braxton filed for divorce from her husband, Vince Herbert, in late October. According to TMZ, a rep for Braxton called the breakup an "extremely difficult decision." However, the split is hardly surprising, considering that two months earlier, the pair was involved in a domestic dispute at Atlanta's Ritz-Carlton hotel—in which Herbert allegedly bit Braxton.

Braxton and Herbert, who were married for almost 9 years, share one child together, Logan Vincent.

The Real Housewives of Orange County star Shannon Beador and her husband, David Beador, decided to end their relationship after 17 years together. 

"I felt alone in my marriage," Shannon told People. "You can do what you can to keep your family together, but you have to have willing parties. You need two people to make a marriage work, and that just wasn't happening in our relationship."

The couple, who renewed their vows just over a year earlier, had been struggling in their marriage for some time, as documented by Shannon's hit Bravo show. In 2015, David admitted to having an affair. Years later, as E! News noted, Shannon implied that her 40-pound weight gain had caused some issues in their relationship, claiming that her extra weight had "disgusted" her husband.

Sounds like these two might be better off without one another.

The Saturday Night Live comedian and his writer-director wife ended their marriage after 11 years together. According to People, Bill Hader and Maggie Carey separated in July 2017, though news of their split didn't go public until November. The two share three daughters together: Hannah, Harper, and Hayley.

In late October, news broke that the Twilight actor and his singer girlfriend went their separate ways after more than two years together. According to People, Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs (real name Tahliah Barnett) just couldn't juggle their chaotic professional lives. 

"He is on a press tour and she is working on her new album. And I think it's timing," a source told the magazine. "They've been all over the place. They have not seen each other in probably two months."

While the same insider claimed the split hadn't been "vicious," it would appear that there's been trouble between these two for quite some time. Though Pattinson and Twigs reportedly became engaged in 2015, the actor told Howard Stern that he and his then-flame were only "kind of" engaged (via People).

Still, it seems possible the pair could reconcile in the future. "I think they will eventually get back together," said the insider for People. "He still loves her and I think that's the girl he wants to marry."

Even the most obsessed Hollywood junkies may have missed the celeb couple that was actress Rosario Dawson and comedian Eric Andre, and they'd be forgiven, considering how Andre's friend, Chance the Rapper, didn't believe the two were actually dating until the Man Seeking Woman actor posted photos of his tongue touching Dawson's on social media (via USA Today.) 

They dated for about a year. "Rosario and Eric went their separate ways," a source told E! News in November 2017. "They are still friends and wish each other the best. They did have some great times together over the year as a couple."

These two appeared to be the real deal, particularly after Dawson talked about Andre taking care of her after an emergency surgery. She told The Late Show host Stephen Colbert: "He took care of me in an adult diaper. That is love."
