The Truth About Britney Spears' Relationship With Zoe Saldana

Britney Spears and Zoe Saldana might seem to be from completely different friendship circles, but not many know that they're actually good pals.

Once upon a time, Spears and Zaldana starred in a movie together, along with Taryn Manning. They were part of the 2002 hit "Crossroads," which follows three high school friends as they go on a cross-country road trip. Per the "Toxic" singer, the film was actually inspired by her real-life friendship with her three longtime friends. "I wanted to do a teen movie, but I wanted to do something that teenagers could watch and be touched by," she told MTV News at the time. "When I was younger, I had my three best friends, till this day. I still have my Courtney, Jansen, and Laura Lynn. The whole concept came up of me being with my girlfriends and us growing up with each other."

Upon making the movie, Spears found friends in her co-stars, especially Saldana. But as Hollywood friendships go, it's not without controversy, and fortunately, the two are on good terms to this day.

Britney Spears and Zoe Saldana are not always vocal about their friendship, but it's obvious that they still have a tight bond, considering how Spears knows intimate details about the "Guardians of the Galaxy" star's life. In 2014, when she was asked if she would ever star in another movie with Saldana, the singer expressed interest and accidentally let a private detail about the actor's life slip.

"Who knows? That's a very good idea," she told Entertainment Tonight. "But she's pregnant with twins right now. So I'm sure she's got a huge future ahead of her." Three years later, Saldana confirmed that it was Spears who broke the news to the press, but she had no hard feelings toward the pop star whatsoever.

"Literally the way that it happened was so innocent that I never even thought of holding her accountable to anything," Saldana said in a "Watch What Happens Live" appearance. "We were on the same flight from L.A. to New York, and we just talked for the duration of the flight. She has two boys, I was having twins; we had such a beautiful talk. And I forgot, it never even occurred to me to tell her not to say anything. We weren't trying to hide it; we were just trying to be discreet. And then when she disclosed it, she was just being Britney. I love her. I don't mean that in a negative way. I mean that in the way that she lives her life in such truth."

During the height of Britney Spears' fight to break free from her conservatorship, Zoe Saldana made sure to make her support for the star public. She said that when the opportunity to work with Spears was presented to her, she jumped right into it without apprehension.

"I was just so excited to be doing a movie like that about three friends," she told E! News in January. "I get it. It's easy for me. I yearn for it. I'm always looking for it." She continued, "I was working with Britney Spears when Britney was the biggest thing at that time. And she was always just a sweet and kind person. She still is. I just have a feeling that she still is. I'm proud of her for stepping up for herself. It's amazing."

Saldana has always been supportive of Spears. In 2014, back when the singer was criticized for having unstable vocals, the actor came to her defense. "I have a huge amount of respect for Britney Spears," she said at the time, per Us Weekly. "And I've always said this, and I will always continue to say it: She was the one big, big celebrity that I met when I was starting to work in Hollywood who was humble, and whatever was going on in her mind or in her world, it was never about hating her neighbor." Spears, for her part, made sure to thank Saldana for her kind words. "@zoesaldana Truly the sweetest, thx 4 the kind words. Nothing but great memories of working w u. Crossroads pt 2?" she tweeted. Uh, yes please!
