The Truth About Khloe Kardashian's Fertility Struggles

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've heard that Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson are expecting their second child together via surrogate. The exes are also parents to 4-year-old daughter True. Though the two have gone their separate ways, Kardashian had previously been open about desiring another child with Thompson. Having grown up with a house full of siblings herself, it's no surprise the Good American founder wanted True to have another sibling.

The news of baby no. 2 has been overshadowed by Thompson's affair with fitness trainer Maralee Nichols (Nichols conceived a baby boy with the NBA star while he and Kardashian were still together). The timeline of that messy saga has been hard enough for fans to keep up with. However, with Kardashian in seemingly good health, they also questioned why the reality did not carry her second child herself.

Here's the real reason the reality star chose to use a surrogate for her second baby.

Khloé Kardashian has a heart abnormality affecting her body

Khloé Kardashian truly tried to conceive a child on her own. According to Life & Style, once the reality star and Tristan Thompson decided to have another baby together, they decided to use in vitro fertilization (IVF). During an egg retrieval procedure, doctors retrieved 12 viable eggs from the mom-of-one. However, it was revealed that Khloé had an issue with her heart affecting her ability to carry a baby to term. She reportedly had an 80% chance of losing any baby conceived.

In an episode of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" on E!, Khloé admitted her disappointment with the news. "This is all really kind of shocking to me," the Good American founder shared with her sister, Kim Kardashian (via People). "All I'm trying to do is bring more love into my life and into my family and I seem to be running into more and more roadblocks and it's all really hard for me to digest."

Khloé also admitted in front of the cameras that she had trouble in her first pregnancy. "I almost miscarried with True at the beginning. But I didn't know that was like a lingering thing," she told Kim on "KUWTK."

Kim Kardashian encouraged Khloé to try surrogacy

The fitness enthusiast was initially hesitant about trying surrogacy, but received encouragement from her older sister. Kim Kardashian, who welcomed two of her children through a surrogate, expressed that the experience was still a beautiful one. "You'll see, the love that you'll have for your kids is exactly the same," Kim told Khloé Kardashian in the episode of "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" (via CafeMom). "There's no difference, except that there was someone else that was the carrier."

Now, Khloé is simply excited to have another baby on the way, in spite of the drama. Currently, she and Tristan Thompson are reportedly focusing on co-parenting and providing a stable environment for True, as well as the new baby. "Khloé is incredibly grateful to the extraordinary surrogate for such a beautiful blessing," her rep shared with People in mid-July. "We'd like to ask for kindness and privacy so that Khloe can focus on her family."

The baby is due any day now through the trusted surrogate.
