A Complete Timeline Of Iggy Azalea's Love Life

Since she was a young student in the Australian town of Mullumbimby, Iggy Azalea was fascinated with American hip-hop and, as she told Complex, she paid attention to it more than her school work. She then took that deep interest as a fan and used it as fuel to pursue a rap career. The ambitious artist had an opportunity to model as well during her younger years, so she moved to Miami all alone at age 16. "I was happy that I was in America," she recounted to the outlet. "I wasn't really trying to make super moves, because I sucked, so no one was really trying to help me. When I moved to Houston is when I started working with actual producers and more seriously trying to do it."

Azalea eventually found fame, but with stardom, you'll see a dangling price tag with a cost that often involves a lack of privacy. Not to mention everyone and their mother commenting on your relationships. Since bursting onto the scene with her 2014 debut album "The New Classic," Azalea has been romantically linked to people like actor Michael B. Jordan, rapper Tyga, and NBA star Jimmy Butler whether she liked it or not.

However, at one point or another, the rumors surrounding those men proved to be false, but other relationship talk concerning Azalea was spot on. So, we gathered all of those people to give you a complete timeline of her love life. Sound good? Then let's get into it.

A legal battle with Maurice Williams

Before the hit records and famous boyfriends, Iggy Azalea dated a rapper and producer named Maurice Williams, who went by the stage name Hefe Wine. The Aussie artist met him while living in a Houston, Texas, hotel when she was still chasing her rap dreams, per The Hollywood Reporter. Azalea was just 17 years old at the time and Williams was 33.

Reportedly, the relationship started in a place of dishonesty because according to a 2014 lawsuit filed by Azalea, Williams was married with children when they met. He first moved her into an apartment in Texas before they both relocated to Atlanta. In the suit, Azalea said that Williams downloaded her personal computer files in their new home without her consent. The lawsuit was filed because her ex tried to release an EP of her music titled "Inizio," and there was talk of Azalea appearing in a sex tape with him as well.

"Obviously I've seen the news feed today and I just want to say I don't have a sex tape but for the record, anyone who releases or attempts to make profit off someone else's intimate moments against their will is a sex offender," tweeted, then deleted Azalea, according to E! News. She didn't mention the tape in her lawsuit against Williams, just the music. But as Entertainment Weekly reported at the time, Azalea dropped the suit in 2015 after a judge issued an injunction to halt the release of songs on "Inizio."

Her romance with A$AP Rocky inspired a tattoo

Is there anything wrong with someone expressing love for their mate publicly? Iggy Azalea didn't think so, which is why she gushed about her then-boyfriend A$AP Rocky in an interview. The two started dating in 2011 and Azalea got a tattoo on her fingers, which read "Live, Love, A$AP," the same name of Rocky's debut mixtape.

"I love him and that's all there is to it," Azalea told Vibe in 2012. "We have our own thing going on and I'm not the only one that [got the tattoos]. I'll tell you that." Then fast-forward almost two years later, and "The New Classic" creator told Complex that she regretted opening up about Rocky because it sparked a bunch of comments from past lovers, Rocky's fans, and general buttinskies. The two reportedly parted ways in June of 2012.

"I f******g hated that. It's not a song. It's a relationship, and you're not in it, by the way. It's so sick to me," said Azalea about the public scrutiny in Complex. She also spoke about having a bitter breakup with the Harlem artist, saying they hated each other at first but the angry feelings eventually subsided. But both rappers would later find themselves in the public eye again for their relationships. Rocky, for example, began dating Rihanna, one of the most famous women in the world. They welcomed a son together on May 13, 2022

Ups and downs with Nick Young

After Iggy Azalea dated and parted ways with musicians Maurice Williams and A$AP Rocky, maybe she'd have a different fate with a professional athlete. That could've been her reasoning when she got into a relationship with former NBA player Nick Young. So where did their romance start? On social media in 2013 when, as Bleacher Report recounted, Young called Azalea his "Woman Crush Wednesday," which led to a date.

"We got set up by our friends," Azalea told "The Breakfast Club." She also explained that they went to a certain department store for their first date, before heading to dinner. "Target is my favorite place [I told him]. I want to go to Target," the rapper recalled.

For a while there, things seemed to be going swell for the couple, because they got engaged and even appeared in an ad campaign for the retail chain Forever 21. But eventually, cracks would show in their relationship, like in 2016 when Young admitted on video that he was cheating on the "Pretty Girls" rapper. Still, Azalea stayed with him, but that wasn't the case when she saw another scandalous video. "I broke up with Nick because I found out he had brought other women into our home while I was away and caught them on the security footage," she tweeted and deleted (via Us Weekly). "This is just like a second shot to the chest. And I feel like I don't even know who the hell it is I've been loving all this time."

Sparks seemed to fly with French Montana

After Iggy Azalea and French Montana hung out in Las Vegas in July 2016 (and, as E! News reported at the time, sparked romance rumors), she told E! News they were just working on music together. But later it was revealed they also collaborated on a kiss. As People reported, the two rappers were seen smooching on a yacht in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, a month after they were spotted in Sin City together. Other photos surfaced as well, including shots of Montana seeming to kiss Azalea's neck and the two of them embracing. The rapper from down under also showed off seven diamond rings in 2016 and suggested they were gifts from Montana. "He told me pressure makes diamonds, @FrenchMontana, @iceman_nick," she captioned the now-deleted photo (via TMZ).

Later, a TMZ reporter asked Azalea if she was dating the "Unforgettable" artist and she said it may happen in the future. "On a scale of one to 10, 10 being most likely [you and Montana will be a couple], one being least likely, what are the chances?" the reporter asked Azalea. "Above five," she answered, although their time together fizzled out after that interview.

Montana was asked about the relationship as well during a 2017 sit-down with New York radio host Angie Martinez. "She's a dope person," he said about Azalea. "We had did some work together. We kicked it for a little bit."

LJay Currie became her 'new boo'

It was clear in 2017 that Iggy Azalea wanted to use a social media photo to make a statement about moving on from French Montana, and what do you know, People captured a screengrab of the social media post. In the snapshot, Azalea is once again kissing a guy on a yacht in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. (Yes, just like the Montana pic.) But this time around, she was making out with music producer LJay Currie, something that she wanted folks to notice. "Y'all got the wrong guy #NewBooAlert," tweeted Azalea, which was an obvious message to the media and others who said that Montana was her boyfriend.

In the other paparazzi pics shared by The Sun, Azalea and Currie are snuggling with each other and hugging. The "Work" rapper was wearing a red bikini in the photos and had her blonde locks cornrowed. Meanwhile, Currie was wearing a life vest since he probably joined Azalea and their friends in some water activities. In some of the pics, the Australian native is on a paddle board and riding a jet ski.

Azalea and Currie also worked together on music at some point and have a single titled "Going Up," which lives on Azalea's 2017 mixtape "4 My Ratz." As for their romance, there's no word if it lasted once they got back to U.S. shores.

A whirlwind with DeAndre Hopkins

Maybe she upset him by revealing their relationship, or possibly they just weren't on the same page when it came to how they should label their union. Iggy Azalea and NFL wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins were in a relationship one day, then within 24 hours, they weren't. But let's backtrack a little. It was early August 2018 and Azalea stopped by Y100 Miami for an interview.

The host eventually invited her to play a game of true or false and that's when Hopkins' name came up. "Miami Dolphins or the Houston Texans?" the host asked Azalea. "Houston Texans," she answered since that was the team that Hopkins played for then. "Are we dating, what's the situation?" the host questioned. "Yeah, we're in a relationship," Azalea responded.

But again, something must've happened between that interview and the following day, because that's when the blonde hip-hopper gave everyone an update." "I'm single," she tweeted before deleting the message, which was captured by People. "I have come to the conclusion I am going to be alone forever. I am completely fine with that," wrote Azalea in a separate message. Hopkins also issued a message about his relationship status. "Y'all know I can care less about social media, but ya boi is SINGLE!!" he wrote and deleted. And that was pretty much that between the rapper and wide receiver.

Playboi Carti and Iggy Azalea became parents

The relationship rumors about Iggy Azalea and Playboi Carti began after Azalea posted a photo of them lounging on a sofa in September 2018. One commenter accused her of dating the Georgia-born rapper solely for his money, something that Azalea quickly shut down. (In fact, she bought Carti a Lamborghini that Christmas.) Then later that same year, they were seen holding hands at Miami's Rolling Loud Festival. Reportedly, they met in 2018 while Carti was on tour.

"Once I started talking to her, I just cut off everybody," he said about Azalea while talking to Fader. In June of 2020, Azalea confirmed the two welcomed a child. "I have a son. I kept waiting for the right time to say something but it feels like the more time passes the more I realize I'm always going to feel anxious to share news that giant with the world. I want to make his life private, but wanted to make it clear he is not a secret and I love him beyond words," she wrote in the now-deleted message. They were done by October 2020. She wrote on Instagram Stories (via Extra), "People take loyalty for granted & that's why I'd rather be alone."

In a 2022 interview with XXL, Carti said of Azalea, "She is the best mother in the world." After the feature was released, Azalea countered in a since-deleted tweet (via Complex) that she and Carti weren't friendly behind the scenes.

A dinner date with Malik Monk

In her seeming attempt to find long-lasting love and companionship, Iggy Azalea went on a date with NBA player Malik Monk in February of 2022, per the Daily Mail. She joined Monk's Los Angeles Lakers teammate Anthony Davis and Davis' wife Marlen P for a Valentine's Day dinner at Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, California. In an attempt to fly under the radar of the public's watchful eye and keep things on the down low, the rapper and Monk exited the restaurant separately. They were also flanked by paparazzi but neither gave any hint that they were on a date together.

But as a number of fans and outlets pointed out, the dinner didn't come out of thin air, because Monk publicly expressed interest in the "Black Widow" performer four years prior. It was after he saw an Instagram photo of her at the iHeartRadio Music Awards and wrote the word "need" in the comment section — meaning that he just had to have Azalea. She thanked him, so yes, there's a little history there.

However, it doesn't seem that much came out of the date because there were no relationship announcements nor any reports that Azalea and Monk went on more outings together. So either the chemistry wasn't there between them or they've gotten really good at keeping their dealings with each other under wraps.

Iggy Azalea grabbed a meal with Tory Lanez

Iggy Azalea and Tory Lanez were seen having a bite to eat in Miami in June of 2022, which instantly sparked dating rumors. Then the following month, the Canadian rapper gushed about Azalea's cooking skills after a photo of her oxtail dish landed on The Shade Room. That, of course, kicked up the relationship talk a few more notches.

But here's the thing with Lanez: He's been a polarizing figure ever since being accused of shooting Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. And so, controversial blogger Tasha K had something to say about the possible Azalea romance. (Tasha is the same blogger who lost a $4 million defamation suit to Cardi B.) "I'm sure she's probably getting the vouchers for child care so she can go out on day dates with Tory. Because she can't go out at night because she can't afford child care," Tasha tweeted about Azalea.

"Tasha watch your mouth & definitely keep my sons name out of it," Azalea shot back. "I certainly DO have that good lawyer money, don't get sued AGAIN, you have rent to pay baby ... I know Tory. We met in 2018 because we both write music in studios," she tweeted before deleting (via HipHopDX). "Who I spend time with in private whether it be professionally, romantically or platonically isn't something I need to give the internet updates on." But notice that Azalea didn't deny that she was dating Lanez.
