Kate Hudson And Liv Tyler's Friendship Started Way Back In High School
Many may remember seeing Liv Tyler and Kate Hudson star alongside one another in the 2000 film, "Dr. T. & the Women," but these two go way further back than that. In fact, long before becoming co-stars, Hudson and Tyler grew up together.
As a quick refresher, in "Dr. T. & the Women," Tyler's character served as the maid of honor for Hudson's character. However, there was more to their relationship than that. Enter, plot twist: They were also a secret couple. As such, Tyler and Hudson locked lips on more than one occasion in the film — and Hudson, herself, has referred to it as one of the highlights of her career. In a lie detector test for Vanity Fair, when asked how Tyler compared with some of her other co-stars, kissing-wise, she quipped, "She beats them all!" Hudson even leaned over to the polygraph examiner to make sure the test knew she wasn't kidding. "Right, truth?" she smiled.
That's not to say she didn't have any regrets. Au contraire, the "Bride Wars" star told her interviewer, Janelle Monae, that they'd held back more than they should have — and that Tyler was in agreement. "We, to this day, are like, 'Why didn't we go for it more with our making out?' Like, she has the softest lips of them all," Hudson mused. That wasn't Hudson's only revelation, though. She also told Monae of her nickname for Tyler: Poopie Shpoops. A sign of some serious closeness, if ever there was one!
They met at a crossroads
Well, the Crossroads, anyway!
Like many children of A-list parents, both Liv Tyler and Kate Hudson spent their formative years at the Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences. Granted, it's unlikely they were able to spend much time together. For starters, Tyler only spent a short amount of time at Crossroads before completing her schooling at York Preparatory in New York. On top of that, as the "Lord of the Rings" actor told MyLifetime, her career had an early start. "I've been working since I was 14," she explained, pointing out that many of her previous gigs had even taken place outside the country, which meant she couldn't always hang out with her friends.
Perhaps that lifestyle is what brought Liv and Hudson closer together. After all, despite Hudson joking to Rolling Stone that her own attempts at launching her career at a young age weren't quite as successful, she had seen the lifestyle of a star up close through her mother, Goldie Hawn, and stepfather, Kurt Russell. Either way, whatever brought these two together during their high school years, it's certainly stood the test of time!
... and they've been part of each other's big moments
From high school to Hollywood — and facing major milestones together — it's safe to say Kate Hudson and Liv Tyler really are friends for life.
First things first, both Hudson and Liv welcomed their first babies in 2004. They've both gone on to have two more — and they've been pretty hands-on for the respective pregnancies. We do mean that in the most literal sense, too. Case in point: Hudson has been eager to pose with Liv's pregnant belly in the past, and the same goes for Liv during Hudson's pregnancies. And, in case we needed any further evidence of their close bond, in 2018, when Hudson was expecting her first daughter, Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa, Liv and her dad, Steven Tyler, popped in for a visit — and some pretty iconic Instagram content. "Baby girl got some good hugs from Papa Tyler this weekend," Hudson captioned the sweet image.
Outside of motherhood, the actors also take a little time to hang out, one on one. In July 2022, they teamed up for a trip to see the play, "Jerusalem." Taking to Instagram, Liv offered up a caption to truly encapsulate their bond. "Date night in London with my sweet sister friend." No doubt about it, this friendship is one for the record books!
