Keith, Look Away For This One! Nicole Kidman Gets Cornered On One Shady Dating Question
We're gonna pre-empt this with yikes, because during an appearance on "Therapuss with Jake Shane," Nicole Kidman was put on the spot about not liking a hypothetical partner's music. Somebody check on her ex, Keith Urban, stat!
Kidman's awkward question came after Shane read a listener's message about hating their musician boyfriend's songs. The listener had asked for advice on how to best deal with the situation, and Kidman's "Practical Magic" co-star Sandra Bullock jumped on it first. After acknowledging that it was tough, Bullock cheekily quipped, "This is a tricky one. Nicole?" (via Entertainment Tonight's IG, which memed the moment). Cue riotous laughter from everyone on- and off-camera at "Therapuss." Once they pulled it together, Kidman suggested, "Find something you like in it. Give a compliment. Give him a bone!"
Unsurprisingly, the internet had a field day with the tragic jokes at Urban's expense, one Instagram user even going as far as posting a GIF of him tearing up on "American Idol." Another joked, "Keith out here catching strays." Others drew parallels to Kidman's previous high-profile divorce and the simple sentence she'd uttered to poke fun at Tom Cruise's height. "This is the modern version of Nicole's 'I can wear high heels again' after dumping Tom," one joked. Well, let it be known that it was Bullock who prompted the shade this time around ... and some Kidman fans even wondered if there was a deeper reason for that. "Okay yeah he definitely cheated for Sandy to do this," one mused. Well, there have been some rumblings that another woman played a role in the divorce, but there is also always a chance Bullock was just throwing a little shade at her friend's ex for the fun of it. As one fan pointed out, "Only best friends can make that joke."
Some have questioned if Nicole ever liked Keith's music
Of course, those who kept up with Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban will no doubt know the Oscar winner was nothing but a supportive wife, particularly when it came to her husband's music. Some may even recall Kidman playfully heckling her husband to play his song "Parallel Lines" at an event, then joining as his backup vocalist. In a post from the event Urban shared to Instagram, he and his then-wife looked adorably loved-up. However, in the wake of Kidman and Sandra Bullock's joke on "Therapuss with Jake Shane," some have questioned if she really did enjoy his music or if this is just another sign she checked out of the marriage long before the divorce.
"It didn't even occur to me that Nic might not like country music ... Like even before," one said on Instagram. That said, while it certainly would add to the drama surrounding the exes, we doubt Kidman really did hate Urban's music. After all, when accepting an award at the 2017 CMTs, Urban said they constantly collaborated behind the scenes. "You have no idea how much of what I do ... she's involved in every little piece of it," he gushed in his speech (via Today). Plus, who can forget the adorable video of them singing "The Fighter" (a song dedicated to Kidman) together in the car in 2016? As one YouTube user wrote, "She literally lights up every time he looks at her."
Playful shade aside, it's unlikely Kidman will ever seriously address the chatter, so whether it was just love or she genuinely enjoyed his music, we'll probably never know. One thing we don't have any doubts about, though, is that Bullock is keeping her friend in stitches as she moves on.
