And he's also been a tabloid fixture throughout much of this period thanks to an eventful love life which has included two marriages, a much-publicized affair, and even blackmail allegations.

So which women have been linked to the man whose handsome face once adorned every other teenage girl's bedroom circa Y2K? Which much-loved actor has said Boreanaz saved her from a bad boyfriend? David Boreanaz made his first notable screen appearance in a 1993 episode of hit family sitcom "Married... with Children" playing the bad boy biker boyfriend of Christina Applegate's Kelly Bundy. And life imitated art when the two actors started dating for real.

Luckily, Boreanaz was a better partner than his on-screen alter ego. In fact, Applegate has said he was there for her in her time of need from the start. In her autobiography "You With the Sad Eyes," she wrote about how he helped her to find the strength to leave her abusive then-boyfriend. "I called David, even though I'd known him for only four days," she recalled (via Entertainment Weekly) after one particular domestic incident. ”'I can't be alone in my house,' I said, and David showed up at the log cabin to keep me company."

Applegate went on to reveal that just a few days later, their platonic relationship turned romantic. Although they were only together for a few months, she'd forever be grateful to Boreanaz for freeing her from her desperate situation. "Thinking back, I can't say enough how much I appreciated him for being the reason I was finally able to get back to normal," she added. In 2009, the pair had a heartwarming reunion at the People's Choice Awards when Applegate was handed the favorite female TV star award on stage by Boreanaz.

In 1994, a then-unknown David Boreanaz met social worker Ingrid Quinn at the opening of an art gallery. And three years on, around the same time that the former landed his breakthrough role as Angel in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," the pair walked down the aisle.

Initially, the couple appeared to cope well with Boreanaz becoming a celebrity. "Ingrid's always been supportive," the actor told E! News about his sudden rise to fame. "She has the same attitude as I do: If you don't get something, it's not meant to be. She'll help me along the way, as far as preparing for something. She's tough as nails — one strong Irishwoman." And when talking about their shared hobby of golf, Boreanaz also hinted to The Morning Call in 1999 that they were at least thinking about starting a family: "It's a sport we love and will continue together, at least until we have children. Hopefully, someday soon."

However, according to reports, Quinn started to grow concerned about her husband's closeness to various castmates while filming the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" spinoff "Angel" and would regularly show up on set to ensure he didn't step out of line. After just two years of marriage, the couple announced they were getting a divorce, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason.

Catalina Guirado shot to fame in the UK in the late 1990s on anarchic chat show "TFI Friday" playing the resident "gorgeous girl" whose advances would be rejected each week by an "ugly bloke." The model certainly didn't have any problem bagging a Hollywood hunk, however.

Guirado started dating David Boreanaz around the time he left "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (and after his first marriage came to an end). The pair went public in 2000 at the sixth Annual Blockbuster Entertainment Awards. Things soon progressed to the next stage, with the former heading to Los Angeles to be closer to the latter after finding the concept of a long-distance relationship too difficult. Unfortunately, a much closer-distance relationship didn't prove to be much easier.

"I thought the way to make it work was to move there," Guirado, who in 2007 got married to Matt Cheadle, told OK! magazine after their romance had turned sour. "Very wrong — it was a disaster. But even though David and I didn't work out I wanted to be in LA. I wasn't going to let some stupid man stop me from doing what I want." 

You wouldn't normally expect the Playboy Mansion to provide the kind of meet-cute that would lead to a hand in marriage. But that's exactly where David Boreanaz was first introduced to second wife Jaime Bergman. Yes, in 2001, the "Angel" star was enjoying the party life at Hugh Hefner's less-than-humble abode when he got talking to the former Playmate. And by the end of the year, they were husband and wife.

The pair tied the knot at a Palm Springs ceremony that had been downsized in the wake of 9/11. And they went on to have two children together, son Jaden Boreanaz and daughter Bella Boreanaz. But their seemingly picture-perfect romance took a major hit in 2010 when news that David had repeatedly strayed. Although Bergman opened up to People about how hurt she was, she also vowed to fight for her marriage. "It took a crisis, it took infidelity to get us off our a**es and work for what we want," she said. "We do the best we can. That's all we can do."

"When we got married we had an unbelievable foundation that we've never forgotten," a sheepish David added. "But it's been damaged." Bergman stayed with her husband in the wake of the cheating scandal and as of this writing the couple is still very much together. Bergman even appeared in an episode of her husband's hit show "Bones" in 2017 alongside their son, Jaden Boreanaz, who grew up to be handsome like his dad. 

In 2010, David Boreanaz decided to come forward about a cheating scandal to counteract blackmail by a former mistress. Although he didn't name names, Radar Online went on to publish a series of incriminating text message conversations between Boreanaz and ex-Bloomberg producer Rachel Uchitel. The two did date for a period of time while Boreanaz was married to Jaime Bergman, but Utchitel denied she ever tried to extort him for money.

"I have made no claims against him and do not plan to assert any," Uchitel said in a statement, per TMZ. "Any statements to the contrary are false and I hope that this statement will finally end any speculation about this issue." Utchitel, who also found herself caught up in Tiger Woods' infidelity scandal, concluded by insisting she wouldn't be commenting any further on the matter. And yet within a few days, she revealed plenty more.

"First of all I want to make it clear that he pursued me," Uchitel told Radar Online in 2010. "Second, the authentic texts which I have reveal that David Boreanaz repeatedly expressed his deep love and affection towards me. Third, I broke off the relationship because I no longer respected or trusted him. Finally, I am deeply hurt and offended that anyone would think that I wanted to break up his family." Uchitel insisted that she believed Boreanaz was separated from Bergman at the time and only discovered this wasn't the case when she went into labor with their second child.
