Joe Manganiello's New Look Is Raising Eyebrows
Cue the Eiffel 65, because Joe Manganiello has gone blue! On Nov. 5, 2020, the crush-worthy actor debuted a new, blue mohawk hairstyle on Twitter and Instagram, amping up fans ahead of his role as Deathstroke in Zack Snyder's Justice League, which is slated to be released on HBO Max in 2021. "Time to go to work...," Manganiello captioned the photo, looking unrecognizable with a steel-blue hairdo, a goatee and a shaved-sides mohawk. It's quite the change-up! Lest we forget the biceps, the picture was quite literally a "flex" as he showed off his arm muscles, tank top shirt and workout machinery in the background. Apparently, the "DC" in DC Comics stands for "Defined and Chiseled."
Zack Snyder's Justice League, a.k.a the Snyder Cut, is a rework of the film Justice League before Snyder left production due to family tragedy and Joss Whedon took the reins. In early 2020, the first teaser footage was removed from YouTube over music usage. The re-shoots apparently include original Justice League stars, including Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, and Ben Affleck, as well as Jared Leto's Joker. And, apparently, a mohawk-donning Joe Manganiello, too! We're certainly intrigued.
Manganiello's breakout role came as kind-hearted werewolf Alcide Herveaux on HBO's True Blood, but he's perhaps best known for his Magic Mike dance moves, general good looks and marriage to another beautiful person, Sofia Vergara. Joe Manganiello's blue 'do has the internet split
So how are people liking Joe Manganiello's new hairstyle? Reviews are generally positive, but there's definitely a sense of shock. "YOU DYED IT BLUE?!?!?!," Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson replied. "Looking good man. Only dude I know can pull that look off," one Twitter user wrote. "I love Deathstrokes new look!! The blue really brings out the eyes!" someone commented on Instagram.
Meanwhile, some DC diehards were quick to point out that Deathstroke — also known as Slade Wilson — is typically portrayed as having bleach-blonde hair, so the blue could mean some sort of narrative change-up when the new film finally comes out. "Well THAT doesn't look like Slade Wilson hair," one Instagram user commented. "I guess your additional photography for ZSJL is done, unless Deathstrokes got blue hair in the nightmare timeline," wrote one Twitter user. "So much for the Deathstroke rumors (unless he already shot whatever additional photography he was scheduled to)," commented a third person.
Whether shooting has wrapped and Manganiello is just switching things up for fun — he showcased a pure bleach-blonde in October 2020 and also went beardless in quarantine — or Zack Snyder just has a different vision for the role remains to be seen. Meanwhile, many fans were just curious if wife Sofia Vergara approved. "I have to know. How does Sophia like the look?" another Instagram commenter wrote. It's certainly a look, but if anyone can pull it off, it's Joe Manganiello.
