Braunwyn Windham-Burke's Husband Reacts To Big Announcement
Now that Real Housewives of Orange Country star Braunwyn Windham-Burke has come out as lesbian, fans are wondering where her husband, Sean Windham-Burke, stands following her announcement. In a Dec. 2, 2020 interview with GLAAD, Braunwyn proudly affirmed, "I like women. I'm gay. I'm a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. I'm a lesbian. And it has taken me 42 years to say that, but I'm so proud of where I am right now and I'm so happy where I am."
Despite being married to Sean for over two decades and sharing seven — yes, seven — children together, Braunwyn said, "I'm not attracted to men and I never have been," during the video interview. She explained that hiding her sexuality has been a constant theme for her but sobriety helped her speak her truth. "I knew I was attracted to women. I always have been ... I got married very young and I never thought about it. So to be 42 ... I'm just now starting to feel like I'm becoming the woman I was supposed to be."
Coming out as gay but being in a heterosexual marriage may be confusing to some, but Braunwyn said she and Sean are playing by their own rule book. "Honestly, we are in uncharted territory. I don't have a role model for this. I don't have anyone to go to for answers. So right now, we're just doing our own way." Braunwyn's husband has her back no matter what
Fans may be a little puzzled now that Braunwyn has revealed she is a lesbian, considering she has been married to husband Sean Windham-Burke for more than 20 years. Despite being in a heterosexual marriage, however, her sexuality has been a part of her storyline since joining the Real Housewives of Orange County. On the Bravo show, the couple revealed that they often engage in threesomes, and Braunwyn and former co-star Tamra Judge raised eyebrows after fans saw them engage in a steamy make out on the show.
"I had a scene with Tamra that everyone kind of talked about," she said, addressing the moment during an interview with GLAAD. "When we were getting ready for the reunion, I was talking to a producer that I trust a lot, his name was James, and he said, 'How do you feel about this? Was it a drunken mistake or is this a part of who you are?' And I said, 'This is who I am.'"
Now that Braunwyn is finally comfortable to speak her truth, crediting her sobriety for accepting her sexuality, Sean appears to support his wife 100 percent. "I love you. I'm proud of you. And I support you. Always," the dad wrote on his Instagram Story following her announcement with a picture of the couple and a rainbow emoji, per Page Six. After renewing their vows on the show and Sean's heartfelt remark, it seems like these two are better than ever despite their unconventional relationship.

Since coming out, Braunwyn and Sean Windham-Burke are making some adjustments to their lifestyle. Braunwyn explained that Sean is still her "best friend" and they plan to stay married and raise their kids as a team, but she did reveal to GLAAD that they are sleeping in separate bedrooms and have given each other the okay to date. In fact, Braunwyn has a new woman in her life and it sounds kind of serious. "This sort of became something that I didn't want to hide anymore and I didn't want to keep a secret anymore," she said of her relationship. "I wanna be able to go out to dinner with whoever I want without judgment. You know, as long as my husband was okay and the person I was dating was okay and knows everything. I didn't wanna have to hide this anymore."
Luckily, Braunwyn said that Sean has welcomed her new romance with open arms. "He knows the girl I'm dating; her name is Kris. I mean, we go to parties together! She came over the other night, hung out with the family, had dinner with us. I mean, it's only as weird as you make it." As for Sean, Braunwyn said he is free to date, but she did not share if he has already found a new lover. Additionally, she revealed Sean is considering taking a job opportunity in New York where he could possibly blossom like his better half. We cannot wait to see what life has in store for them!
