John Oliver's Resurfaced Warning To Meghan Markle Is Turning Heads

Following Meghan Markle's explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which she accused the royal family of alleged racism and admitted she contemplated suicide at the hands of U.K. paparazzi mayhem, some old advice the duchess was given has resurfaced. Prior to her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, Last Week Tonight host John Oliver issued a warning to the former actress while making an appearance on Stephen Colbert's The Late Show. Asking his fellow host his expertise on the matter as a Brit who married an American woman, Oliver told the soon-to-be royal to proceed with caution ... or run for the hills.

"I would not blame her if she pulled out of this at the last minute," he said on the show at the time. "I don't think you need to have just seen the pilot episode of The Crown to get a basic sense of she might be marrying into a family that could cause her some emotional complications." Now how's that for some foreshadowing? Keep scrolling to see what else John Oliver said about Meghan Markle joining the royal family.

John Oliver calls royals 'emotionally stunted'

It looks like John Oliver saw Meghan Markle's rift with the royal family coming before she even tied the knot to Prince Harry. However, Stephen Colbert tried to give "The Firm" the benefit of the doubt, asking the Brit, "But this generation seems like nice people, right? They're all nice now, right?" to which Oliver replied, "Yeah..."

"They're an emotionally stunted group of fundamentally flawed people doing a very silly pseudo-job. That's what she's marrying into," Oliver said. "So, I hope she likes it, it's going to be weird for her."

"I wouldn't marry into the royal family, I'm a commoner," he added. "I would not be welcome. Especially after what I've just said."

While Oliver suggested common folk wouldn't be greeted with open arms by the royals, Meghan suggested that it was her race that left her on the outs with the family. During her sit down, she revealed there were conversations about "how dark" son Archie would be, adding (via BBC), "They didn't want him to be a prince... which would be different from protocol."

Additionally, Meghan revealed (via BBC) she had suicidal thoughts and retold what unfolded when she reached out to her in-laws. "I said that I needed to go somewhere to get help, said I had never felt that way before and need to go somewhere, and I was told that I couldn't, that it wouldn't be good for the institution." Unfortunately, it sounds like Oliver was all too correct.
