How Julia Roberts Snuck Into Australia With Nicole Kidman's Help

Forget about California — there is a new Hollywood in town, or rather, down under. Australia is the latest locale that is attracting A-listers. Because of its summertime weather, diverse terrain (perfect for on-location filming), and an established film industry, Australia has become the go-to place for Hollywood's most-anticipated, big-budget productions that would still be on hiatus in California.

Casts with some of the biggest names in entertainment have made their way to the southern end of the globe for both relaxation and work, including stars Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Idris Elba, Tilda Swinton, Zac Efron, George Clooney, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Tom Hanks, just to name a few. The projects that are luring such great talent to the Gold Coast range from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Netflix series to independent features and biopics, according to The Guardian.

And with all this new activity as backdrop, Aussie Nicole Kidman recently snuck her former co-star Julia Roberts into Australia. Continue to read how she did it!

Why is Julia Roberts in Australia?

Julia Roberts has stayed booked and busy even amidst a pandemic, and her latest work assignments have sent her to sunny Sydney, Australia. Academy Award-winning actress Nicole Kidman, who last worked with Roberts on Secret in Their Eyes in 2015, actually snuck Roberts and her family into the country last week, according to the Daily Mail.

Roberts brought the whole family along. Her husband, Daniel Moder, twins Hazel and Phinnaeus, and youngest son Henry all arrived by private jet and met up with Kidman's own personal, private security team and band of handlers to help smooth the clandestine process, reported The Daily Telegraph (via the Daily Mail). The mission must have been a success since Roberts and family are now quarantining in a "luxurious private home north of Sydney” after a short stay in a local hotel, per the outlet.

The family's move from California to Sydney comes just in time for Roberts to begin filming her latest movie and TV roles in the next few months. Up first is TV series Gaslit about the Watergate scandal, which also stars Sean Penn. Then, Roberts gets reacquainted with her former co-star and fellow parent to twins George Clooney for their romantic comedy Ticket to Paradise, which will be filmed later this year in Queensland.
