The Real Cause Of Tiger Woods' Crash Has Finally Been Revealed

Professional golf legend Tiger Woods was involved in a serious car crash in February 2021, causing many to speculate if his golf career would be over. The crash occurred as he was driving between the Rolling Hills Estates and Ranchos Palos Verdes neighborhoods in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reported that the accident was a "roll-over traffic collision" and that he had been transported to the hospital for medical care. Woods ended up sustaining multiple injuries to the lower portion of his right leg and required surgery to correct the damage, according to the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center's chief medical officer and interim CEO Dr. Anish Mahajan in a statement shared on the golfer's Twitter account.

Many fans were concerned about both Woods' future on the golf course and his personal health following the crash. The father of two was arrested for driving under the influence of five drugs in 2017, which he attributed to medication he took to treat his insomnia and back pain, per NBC News.

Fortunately, it seems that Woods was not under the influence during his February 2021 crash, as new details about the accident have been revealed prior to an official statement from The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office. Here is what we know so far.

One factor caused Tiger Woods' car crash

According to TMZ, Tiger Woods "waived his right of privacy and authorized the release of the accident report to the public." Consequently, the outlet learned that speed will be listed as the sole cause of the accident. Woods was reportedly driving 83 mph in a 45 mph speed limit zone and lost control of his loaned 2021 Genesis GV80.

TMZ sources reported that Woods will not be cited for any violations from the crash and was not given a drug test following the accident. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reportedly felt it did not have probable cause to search his phone to determine if he was using it at the time of the crash. Per TMZ, there are more details that may never come out about the accident.

Woods is currently recovering from his injuries in Florida and seems to be in good spirits. On March 16, 2021, he posted a statement to his Twitter account thanking the medical staff that helped him following the crash and the ongoing support from fans and friends. "I am so grateful for the outpouring of support and encouragement I have received over the past few weeks," he said, adding that he is "getting stronger every day."
