Inside Paris Hilton And Carter Reum's Relationship

The following article includes allegations of domestic abuse and child abuse.

Like glitter and Juicy Couture tracksuits, socialite Paris Hilton was everywhere in the early 2000s. With the unsanctioned release of her sex tape in 2004, the hard-partying model-reality TV star turned lemons into limoncello by becoming even more famous after the media scandal. The paparazzi couldn't get enough of Ms. Hilton, and the feeling was mutual. With her lavish lifestyle, vapid catchphrases, and live-animal accessories, she appeared to become a caricature of Hollywood excess and entitlement.

Hilton's "it girl" status eventually faded, and her name stopped popping up as much in the tabloids — for a while, at least. In the 2020 documentary, "This Is Paris," Hilton insisted that her controversial past persona was merely an act. The multi-hyphenate celebrity also claimed that she had been abused at a youth treatment center, Provo Canyon School, at the age of 17. According to Hilton, this made her laser focused on achieving success, even if it meant pretending to be a "kind of fantasy" and "playing into a character," per an interview with Vogue.

Hilton also admitted in the doc that her alleged traumatic experiences at Provo Canyon affected her romantic relationships. Sadly, the heiress claimed that several of her exes were physically and emotionally abusive. Despite the heartache, Hilton had good news to share in February 2021, when she became engaged to boyfriend Carter Reum. The public was intrigued by Hilton's non-celebrity fiancé and wanted to know more about the "dream guy" who fell for the "real Paris." Let's takes a detailed look inside Paris Hilton and Carter Reum's relationship.

Is this just another 'whirlwind' romance for Paris Hilton?

Whether it's at work or play, Paris Hilton lives life in the fast lane — and her romantic relationships appear to follow a similar pattern. After two years of dating and a 10-month engagement, Hilton broke up with actor Chris Zylka in 2018. Appearing on "The Talk" later that year, the businesswoman opened up about why the pair wasn't meant to be: "When I fall in love, I fall in love fast and hard, and it was this whirlwind romance ... I just realized after time that it wasn't the right decision" (via CNN).

Hilton and Carter Reum had only been dating for a little over a year when he popped the question. Because the hotel heiress described her former, almost three-year relationship with Zylka as a "whirlwind," some may have dismissed her new engagement as another rushed and tenuous courtship. But skeptics had no idea that the couple has known each other for over a decade.

In 2020, Hilton opened up to People about her relationship with then-boyfriend Reum and revealed that the Columbia graduate is a longtime "family friend," saying, "I've known him for 15 years. Then [Reum's sister, Halle Hammond] invited us to Thanksgiving and we just had this incredible chemistry." An established connection and great "chemistry" proved to be a winning combination for the couple. Hilton gushed to the magazine, "We had our first date and haven't spent a night apart since. It's pretty amazing."

Meet the multi-hyphenate power couple

Paris Hilton has worn many hats throughout her life, and we aren't talking about her former Von Dutch collection. After becoming a professional model at 19, Hilton spent years walking the runways and posing for magazines. But she wasn't content with being just another pretty face from a wealthy family. The socialite became an actor, singer, DJ, author, and entrepreneur with over "19 product lines," per Money.

Noting that she always wanted to be a "successful business woman," Hilton told the outlet that keeping up with her multi-million dollar empire isn't always easy: "My schedule is insane ... I don't stop." More recently, she has added another cutting edge venture to her resume: "NFT influencer." Fortunately, the hardworking bombshell wasn't too busy for love, as a source cited by People claimed that Hilton "finally met her match" in like-minded entrepreneur Carter Reum.

Before beginning his own business ventures, Reum worked as an investment banker for Goldman Sachs (via Shortcut Your Startup). In 2007, he co-created VEEV Spirits and later sold the successful "vodka alternative" brand to start M13, "a brand development and investment company." The innovator also co-wrote a bestselling book. Hilton discussed her admiration for Reum on "The Trend Reporter with Mara" podcast: "This is my first time dating a businessman, and I think it's so sexy ... It's so inspirational to be with a man who is on my level and who understands that I have to work, he has to work, we support each other, and I've never had that before."

How did the pandemic affect Paris Hilton and Carter Reum's relationship?

While the global coronavirus pandemic has led to countless tragedies and hardships, some have found comfort in self-reflection. Paris Hilton discovered this same "silver lining" during lockdown. Speaking with "Tatler" (via ET Canada), she mused, "Obviously ... my heart goes out to everyone. But ... for me, it's been amazing to re-evaluate my life and my priorities. I've lived such a full life, I now know that I am happy being at home" .

Specifically, the former star of "The Simple Life" has been happy at home with Carter Reum. Hilton told "Tatler" that after years of constant traveling, staying in with her fiancé was a welcome change of pace. She gushed to the publication, "I'm in the best place in my life ... [before] my life was so hectic." Hilton also told People that the pandemic lockdown gave the couple a chance to get to know each other well in a matter of months rather than "years."

Reum echoed his fiancée's sentiments after their engagement was announced. While speaking with People, the entrepreneur revealed that he felt "lucky" to "have gotten the unique opportunity to get to know the real Paris on a daily basis just the two of us during these past 15 months." He added, "I couldn't be more excited ... to have her as my future wife and partner." Aww, loves it.

Paris Hilton loves that Carter Reum has 'family values'

Paris Hilton and Carter Reum are clearly both ambitious individuals who share similar goals, passions, and even the same zodiac sign. But perhaps the most important similarity for the couple is their commitment to family. Hilton has always been close with younger sister Nicky Hilton Rothschild. In fact, these "besties" are so tight that Reum even asked for Nicky's "blessing" before popping the question (via People). Carter has an equally strong bond with his older brother, Courtney Reum. The brothers seem to do everything together: both attended Columbia, worked for Goldman Sachs, and co-founded two companies (via Shortcut Your Startup).

Paris is also extremely close with parents Kathy and Richard Hilton. The heiress and Carter have even been spotted on double dates with Mr. and Mrs. Hilton, per Just Jared. In an interview with People, the "Stars Are Blind" singer told the publication, "I just always wanted what my mom and dad have. They're best friends ... Carter actually reminds me of my dad! He makes me feel safe and happy."

While Paris sadly never got the opportunity to meet Carter's father, Robert Reum, who died in 2017, she took note of how the venture capitalist treated his mama. On "The Trend Reporter" podcast, Hilton told journalist Mara Schiavocampo that she was initially attracted to Reum because of "how sweet he was with his mom." The popular DJ also gushed to People, "He does have amazing family values. That's one of the reasons I fell in love with him."

This couple wants twins, like now

While it might seem difficult to imagine the glamorous socialite changing diapers, Paris Hilton swears that making babies with Carter Reum is a top priority. She filmed her "This Is Paris" documentary before reconnecting with Reum, but revealed that she had previously frozen her eggs. In one scene, Nicky Hilton Rothschild asked Paris, "Do you think you'll ever have kids?" The heiress expressed some ambivalence, before replying sadly, "I just don't want to miss that opportunity."

After finding her "soulmate," Paris Hilton is no longer on the fence about wanting children. The model told Mara Schiavocampo that she knew Reum would be the "best dad" after seeing him interact with sister Nicky's daughters. She added, "I'm really excited just to move on to the next step of my life ... I really do believe that having a family and having children is the meaning of life" (via "The Trend Reporter" podcast).

Paris also revealed some huge news on the podcast: she and her fiancé have done IVF in the hopes of conceiving someday. And the "House of Wax" actor got some advice about the process from her longtime friend, Kim Kardashian, saying, "I am happy she told me that advice and introduced me to her doctor." Explaining why the couple chose to do IVF, Paris said, "I really want twins that are a boy and a girl ... This is the only way to 100% get that." As for baby names? Paris Hilton has naturally already chosen "London" for the girl.

Paris Hilton almost 'gave up' on love before meeting Carter Reum

As previously mentioned, Paris Hilton has admitted that she tends to fall in love rather quickly. The heiress has had multiple, high-profile relationships and had been engaged a total of four times. When Hilton and then-fiancé Chris Zylka broke up in 2018, she began to lose hope, sharing with People, "After my last breakup, I thought I was going to be alone forever. I was like, I give up. I'll just focus on myself. I don't need anyone."

Sadly, many of Hilton's other romantic experiences also left her wary of love. She reflected on some of these dysfunctional relationships in "This Is Paris," saying in the doc, "After being at Provo, you don't even know what love is or how to have a relationship." The same scene became even more heartbreaking when Hilton revealed that she had been "grabb[ed]," "hit," and "strangled" by a handful of past boyfriends. Sister Nicky Hilton Rothschild agreed in the documentary that Paris' experiences with her former partners had left her with major "trust" issues.

Fortunately, trust is no longer an issue for Hilton when it comes to current love, Carter Reum, per "The LadyGang" podcast. In fact, the DJ has complete faith in her beau and revealed that she's "100%" certain that the two were "meant to be" on "The Trend Reporter with Mara" podcast. Comparing Reum to other men she's dated, Paris said, "I didn't feel like anybody deserved that [real] love from me, and now I finally found the person who does."

The couple promoted themselves (but mostly Paris) in an interview

Unless you're a famous multi-millionaire, the lives of Paris Hilton and Carter Reum are fascinating, but extremely unrelatable. In 2020, Hilton and Reum participated in the virtual IAB Brand Disruption Summit (IAB stands for Interactive Advertising Bureau), during which the M13 founder interviewed his famous fiancée. If you don't feel like watching two perfect-looking individuals discussing their lucrative businesses, we'll outline the highlights.

The video opens with generic, upbeat music and features pics and videos of Hilton and her thousands of products. Words pop up on the screen, like business, activist, philanthropist, music, speaker, real estate, and social media, because Ms. Hilton does it all. During the interview itself, Reum begins by reciting a ridiculously long list of Hilton's accomplishments and facts that demonstrate her popularity: "You've got a social audience of over 65 million people!"

While the whole conversation seems to emit some shameless self-promotion vibes, the couple's genuine affection for one another also shines through. Reum and the blonde icon gaze adoringly at one another and the venture capitalist tells her, "I've gotten the pleasure, given our private lives, to be your partner for the last year ... and I've learned a ton from you." With Reum also revealing his cute nickname for the heiress whenever he calls her "P," it would appear that this power couple is "sliving" when it comes to both wealth and love.

Carter Reum supports Paris Hilton on her 'toughest days'

While "This Is Paris" may have successfully put Paris Hilton back in the spotlight, the documentary also served to shine a spotlight on the horrific abuse that may occur in certain youth detention centers. In the documentary, Hilton met with other survivors who attended Provo Canyon School, and together, the women took pictures and videos to help raise awareness for the "#BreakingCodeSilence" campaign. Hilton also began a petition on Change.org to shut down the detention center, led protests against the "school," donated her own money toward the cause, and testified to lawmakers in support of "a bill seeking to regulate [Utah's] troubled teen industry, per USA Today.

In February 2021, Carter Reum accompanied his fiancée to the Utah Capitol building in a show of support. Hilton wrote about how much his presence meant to her on Instagram: "I was so nervous to get up there and speak about such traumatic experiences ... But having him there by my side made me feel so much more comfortable. Carter ... I'll be forever thankful to you for being by my side in the toughest days of my life."

Although Reum isn't super active on social media, he posted a loving message to Hilton after the debut of her documentary: "So proud of @parishilton and not only the success of her documentary #thisispsris [sic] but how she's using her platform for positive change." The entrepreneur has also retweeted a post that read in part, "Paris Hilton's not only a pioneer but has an amazing heart for others."

Inside their fairytale engagement

The "This is Paris" doc showed that Paris Hilton's life hasn't been perfect, but her social media pages and personal website still portray the heiress as living a sparkly "fantasy" existence of which most can only dream. Her engagement to Carter Reum, for example, was very much on brand. People reported that Reum popped the question four days before Paris' 40th birthday while the couple vacationed on a "private island." After posting pictures of the big moment to her Instagram, Hilton wrote that Reum had proposed while they walked to dinner along the beach, adding, "When you find your soulmate, you don't just know it. You feel it ... There's no one I'd rather spend forever with."

The posted pics (which also appeared on her website) show Reum wearing a white suit and Hilton wearing a white dress, sunglasses, tiara, and rhinestone gloves. Reum is shown kneeling down in front of a cabana with a "Marry me" sign. With the picturesque ocean in the background, the pair posed for more pictures with family members, including Nicky Hilton Rothschild, Barron Hilton, and Courtney Reum.

Of course, Paris Hilton's actual engagement ring was also something out of a fairytale. According to People, Reum hired "Jean Dousset, the great-grandson of Louis Cartier" to design the diamond ring, which is estimated to be worth $2 million. Dousset designed the "one-of-a-kind" creation (named "Paris," of course) in part to "resemble the vaulted glass ceiling of the Grand Palais" (via Hilton's website). Swoon.

Paris Hilton can't stop gushing about her fiance, Carter Reum

Paris Hilton is very much in love with Carter Reum — and she wants the world to know it. The heiress often posts pictures to her social media pages of the lovebirds kissing, dancing, gazing adoringly at one another, and did we mention kissing? The activist also captions each Carter-featured post with love song lyrics or heartfelt praise for her fiancé. For Reum's 40th birthday, for example, Hilton wrote on Instagram, "You light up my world, you are my everything and make me the happiest girl ... I love you forever my sweet, kind, handsome, romantic, brilliant #BirthdayBoy!"

However, Hilton's gushing about her beau isn't restricted to social media. The future bride loves talking about her "perfect match" during interviews. As previously mentioned, she also isn't shy about discussing her love for Reum or their future baby-making plans. Paris Hilton is clearly very confident about her relationship with Carter Reum and is more than happy to share her own personal joy after finding true love. And honestly? That's hot.
