Who Is Bella Thorne's Mother?
Actor Bella Thorne and her mother have a lot to celebrate these days since the two recently got engaged. The former Disney star said yes to Italian singer Benjamin Mascolo in March after two years of dating. She posted an Instagram photo of their engagement party where she also revealed that her mother, Tamara Thorne (a.k.a. Tamara Sue Beckett), is engaged as well. The "Famous in Love" star wrote, "CONGRATS to my mom and ross and their engagement double weddings!!"
Bella tagged her mom's Instagram, where Tamara frequently posts about her kids, their upcoming projects, and her new fiance. While things seem great for the Thornes now, life wasn't always so easy. Tamara, her husband, Delancey Reinaldo "Rey" Thorne, and their four children, Kaili, Dani, Remy and Bella were living in Florida when Delancey was killed in a motorcycle crash. Tamara eventually relocated her family to LA, where three of her kids became actors and one an MMA fighter.
However, the single mom had a hard time making ends meet. Bella revealed that she auditioned for "Shake It Up" to help her mother. She said on a podcast (via Refinery 29), "we were about to live physically on the street if I didn't have that role. We were living off Stouffer's coupons, and that's all we had to eat every day." She added, "that may not sound like a big deal to everybody, but when you're a single mom raising four kids with debt and you have nothing to your name, it's f***ing sh****."
Tamara Thorne had a complicated relationship with daughter Bella
While Tamara Thorne may be close with famous daughter Bella Thorne now, the two have had a complicated relationship. The "Babysitter" star revealed on "Strahan and Sara" that her mother wasn't always totally there for her. She explained, "I wanted acceptance. I wanted appreciation and love for who I was... to everything about myself that I didn't ever feel like I got." Tamara was also mentioned in a series of poems. In one, Bella writes to her mom (via People), "I learned love from you and daddy but since he was gone mostly from you ... it's very hard for me to love properly." In another poem, the singer apologized to Tamara, writing, "I'm glad we are here, and I'm grateful we have time to mend. I love you mommy."
Tamara has acknowledged her past issues with Bella, while clarifying what's most important to her. She explained to People, "My family always comes first, and they are my number one priority. Bella and I did have a falling out a few years ago, but we are on the mend." Bella echoed that, saying on "Strahan and Sara," "I think this is really the closest we've ever been in life to understanding one another."
These days, Tamara seems her happiest, especially after what appeared to be a family trip to Miami. Bella's mom posted several photos of the family together and in one she wrote, "Thank you for making me your mom! I'm so blessed." And we couldn't agree more!
